Hi Wendy thanks for suggestion. I would like to know in Shopify you get organic traffic, or you marketed your products to get your own traffic?

We get a lot of organic traffic from Google because we work very hard on SEO. I also do a lot of marketing on TikTok and Pinterest. All free. No paid ads.

Hi Wendy, thank you so much for your videos! 🙌🏼😊 Etsy actually as a merchant of record and is easier for because they do the sales taxes. The other platforms don’t do the sales taxes and hiring and an account is really expensive when you have a lot of sales taxes and remits to the different places + vat +gst. What is your recommendation with that?

You are welcome! Thanks for watching! So that is definitely an advantage of Etsy but it’s not difficult to do this on your own. In Shopify you can set it up to collect tax on your products. (I’m not a tax expert so please seek tax advice from a professional) But…typically you only have to collect tax on products sold in the state your business has a presence in. (So for me that’s New Jersey) Then once a quarter you submit your ST-50 which is a super simple online form where you list the sales, the sales that were taxable, and it calculates the tax due (which would match what you collected on Shopify) and you pay that. The other thing that’s different is physical vs digital. Most states don’t charge tax on digital goods unless you are also delivering a physical copy. Shopify has a lot of great articles to help clarify this process.

@@WendyJoDavis Thank you so much for your reply I really appreciated it! I'm not a tax professional either but I've been investigating a lot. There is something called economic nexus and you have to pay sales taxes on certain states where you sell more than 200 products or pass a certain amount of money. Also if we are in the USA we have to pay VAT taxes even do we don't live in Europe and now we have to pay sales taxes in Canada. If you check your Etsy store you will see the taxes that Etsy remits from you every month. I don't want to do things wrong and then have to pay a lot of sales taxes :( the only app that I saw that helps you to do that is Taxjar but it has really bad reviews. I really want to do Shopify but I haven't found good apps for that :/

@@priscillarodriguez3366 I done personally run an Etsy shop anymore but there setup is different because they are considered present in every state with a nexus. The nexus doesn’t come into affect until you’ve surpassed $100,000 in sales I believe. (I’d have to double check my numbers) We have a cpa that gables everything for our businesses now because there are too many streams for me to keep up with and it’s money well spent! Ultimately you need to do what you’re most comfortable with but there are thousands of people running small businesses outside of Etsy successfully!

What does Shopify charge monthly after the $1 trial? I keep seeing different numbers and no exact $$ amount.

$39/month. If you buy the yearly you’ll save over $100-its worth it. But the monthly is steep just for the basic plan.

Honestly with what you pay in fees on Etsy I feel like $39 a month is pretty cheap. It’s scary for someone just starting out but it has definitely been a good investment for us!
