Not sure if you know this but there is a free terrain radar mod. It adds a VSD, terrain, and weather radar to many aircraft that don’t have it. It’s directly comparable with the Zibo so it should work just fine. It’s called “ Terrain radar + Vertical Situation Display”

1:13:56 Unfortunately xplane 12 changed a lot of things that made it hard for Zibo to simply port the plane from XP11 with no issues. Thrust was one of casualties of the changes in XP's flight model. It is a great shame that you did not try it during the glory days of XP11, but great to see you using it now regardless. I'm sure that it will be brought back up to scratch in the near future. Zibo and his helpers are fantastic developers!

Zibo was my favorite plane before I switched to MSFS, 3 plugins need to be installed to get it fully functional: Avitab, better pushback, and terrain radar.
And I remember zibo does have performance calculator, at least for landing i guess, maybe in the weight & balance section in the efb

  • @maroon9980

Nice to see your first impression on the Zibo. I flew it for many years on X-Plane 11 before moving to MSFS. Gotta say the PMDG for me feels more authentic and immersive, especially the cockpit modelling and the ftsim+ sound pack. But the Zibo flies like a dream and for me it always felt more satisfying to take off and land. Also I’d highly recommend BetterPushback and the Terrain Radar plugin which enables the terrain function on the MFD in many aircraft for X-Plane, including Zibo. I may also suggest the RealPFD mod for more realistic looking displays. Looking forward for future videos!

Zibo: Start APU. Observe APU EGT Temp. Switch ON APUGEN Bus #2 then #1. Notice APU EGT doesn't move! Turn APU Bleed on-EGT still static. Now turn both packs on! See? Little details like this can break immersion. PMDG gets it right. Zibo gets close-but they miss the little things like this :(

As I flew the Zibo Mod regularly on XP11 I can say something seems off on the AP behavior - it did not move the column that erratically back then so I guess it's some compatibility issue with XP12 changes you see.
For sounds, iirc there are settings in the EFB for the volume of different systems in "audio volumes & EQ". The FMC "chime" might also relating to the setting you wondered about ("FMC beep sound" - 11:00)

Yeah, that sound when the engines are initially spooled up is fantastic, really sounds like being in a real 737NG. The buzzsaw at TOGA thrust too. I have to say though, Listened to a 737 taxi out of a self-manoeuvering stand (was about 25 or so metres from the aircraft) and the PMDG sounds were spot on for the external spool up and idle. The Zibo also gets that satisfying low pitch hum about right (when the thrust is brought back during the flare) but sometimes you can't really hear it on the real aircraft. The PMDG sound engineer did say in the forums he was looking to implement a more realistic soundpack - so let's see!

    Interesting video.
Wonder how your opinion would change had you known how to use the sim better and been able to distinguish which behaviours are X-Plane related limitations\bugs (same as msfs has some quirks) and once you've installed terrain radar and everything else needed to make the Zibo mod complete.
I thought about writing a timeline including explanations on how I would do different things in the sim (pressing 4 once when the speedbrake is stowed, for example, would arm it; you can bing thrust reversers to your yoke or press Shift+/ to activate them (and again to stow them). Would you be interested in that?

Most simmers, even those on YT, when challenged to do side by side flights in XP and MSFS can’t demo a big enough difference in an aircraft systems / flight dynamics worth the view out of the window in XP compared to MSFS.
In any case with A2A now in MSFS the flight model, for GA at least, is also moving to a win for MSFS. More aircraft to come from A2A.
With MSFS 2024 next year and sim updates after that. Even higher quality aircraft updates from Fenix and PMDG expected within 12 months. Possibly even an FSLaps release in 2024. Why would any new simmer choose XP or P3D as their sim? Not just the aircraft, the number of add ons is still growing rapidly and far more affordable in MSFS. Economy of scale.
The answer to that question on which sim to choose tells devs everything they need to know about where their next project is in the profit margin.
By the end of 2024 the FBW 320 / 380 will almost certainly be the best two freeware aircraft of all time. The new 320 model is taking second place to the 380, but dev on 32NX continues apace. ZIBO seems to be in the maintaining phase of development. So how much improvement will there be in two years?

For me, I think the Zibo mod is second only to PMDG. I think the wingflex on the PMDG is jerky and not smooth. For me it detracts from the realism, and show a weakness in the physics animation. If for you XP graphics are from 80's then you need glasses or better PC hardware to run it at high settings. With HD Mesh + SimHeaven + Orbx TrueEarth I can have 30GB of RAM usage and 16+ GB VRAM usage. In MSFS you have blurry ortho textures of some snapshot in time that doesn't look good or natural. XPlane does have a general option to "Remove flying surfaces when overspeed or over G limits" but is not recommended when using Zibo because it conflicts with the code as the EFB already has failure options. If you force crash it, it will blow up into flames and smoke unlike the boring MSFS black screen with error msg.

The thing I miss the most about the Zibo was ZHSI, a free 3rd party app that allowed me to export the MIP displays and annunciators to a networked computer for my home cockpit. Not having to pop those screens on my main PC saved me a few FPS. Plus, it also allowed showing annunciators (and basically turn any dataref into an annunciator). I hope Asobo / PMDG provide a way to do this in the future.

    • @A330Driver

I approached it from the perspective that people kept telling me under my PMDG videos, which always was something along the lines of "the ZIBO is FREE and a thousand times better than your PMDG trash, it does everything PMDG does and more".
That's the expectations my viewers created and thus that's what I measured it against.
But as I mention myself in the final summary at the end: For a freeware it's a stunning plane.

  • @chris_flies
    @chris_flies ปีที่แล้ว

Great video! Both the PMDG and the Zibo are quite good representations of the 737 for desktop simulators, it's amazing what we have access to these days. I recently picked-up the PMDG 737-900 for MSFS, and have been enjoying it a lot. The performance is excellent and it flies very nicely! I've been using XP for years and years, and it's kind of a fun change to fly such similar aircraft in two different simulators.
For your first full flight, I think things went off quite well. No googling required like most of my first flights in an all-new aircraft and/or sim lol
It's been said a hundred times, but, get BetterPushback, make sure the aircraft is updated (link: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qo88h_CCQRRrAMhG3EabHSwa4Lzw-WHL - grab the latest file at the bottom and extract into the 737-800X folder), and get the Terrain Radar plugin and the aircraft will be complete and current. XP12 is still in its infancy, so not much attention is being paid to exacting standards at this point as big XP updates tend to throw devs through a loop. 12.06 is on its way with some major changes.
Check out your keybindings, you can use the 3 or 4 keys (by default) to retract or extend the speedbrakes, and one notch extended is the armed position.
The autopilot being in "high gain" is just an X-Plane-ism. a combination of over-done turbulence and over-eager autopilots getting better information faster than the real aircraft.
All said, I think I've noticed the same differences between the Zibo and PMDG models. Ground handling is my biggest nitpick; the PMDG handles like it's a helium balloon, the Zibo feels like an airliner. Zibo does require too much thrust to maintain speed, but, it leans in the turns and heaves around like a 50-plus-ton airliner, and makes all the right sounds to boot.
Sound-wise, I think it's kind of a wash. Zibo sound more natural, but the PMDG sounds cleaner and seems better balanced out of the box. Both have their issues.
