    Trains in Japan are truly something else, how I wish the US had a train system as dense and useful as Japan's. Always fun to see these kinds of videos, thanks Norm!

    • @brettbrooks5511
      @brettbrooks5511 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Japan is a little over half the size of the state of Texas. There's no way the US could have a railway system like Japan because the of how much bigger the US is.

    • @LouisChang-le7xo

      It's called Carbrained uncle sam stoppped supporting amtrak until biden came along. Ever heard of the chinese bullet train system? Even if the us was
      'too big," we could have state-owned railways. Or you can watch Not Just Bikes.

      A train system similar to this COULD (maybe) work in the largest and most congested US cities. Of course our public transportation system is pretty much already in place, but there’s always room for improvement.

    I'm always jealous of the train systems that Japan has. It feels like such a big step up from the cross-province VIA Rail trains here in Canada in terms of cleanliness and comfort. Thank you for sharing the gorgeous scenery (that random statue at 9:40 is amazing)!

    I’m 1000% here for watching Norm try to fit into all of the tiny Japanese accommodations. 😂 does anyone know how tall he actually is..? Also that stay house.. oh my lord🙌🏻🙌🏻 and that “beetle” cafe?! I don’t think I’m ever getting over this lens I see Japan through. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤗 Ty for taking us along!
    And congrats to the lucky winner!,❤

    • @KimSpurre104
      @KimSpurre104 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Guessing 5’9” to 5’10” maybe? He seems to be about as tall as my ex judging by how he fits into beds roughly the length of a twin and how he fits into the small rooms (the ones where he tells us how wide the hallways, etc are). I’m sure one could find out the height and weight of just about anybody who is fairly well known by Googling lol

    Norm out here getting recognized on the train 💪🏽
    Overnight train as a concept is so interesting, it’s definitely lacking in space but makes up for it in affordability and the unique experience. Definitely Contemplating it for my trip to Japan 😅
    Edit: Also this is my first time being this early on notification squad, I usually have to wait a couple hours to watch due to work

      Do it. And the moment you get on, go to the bath ticket dispense so you can experience bathing in a train. Protip: If you have a JR Pass, the nobi nobi sleeping area is covered. Though that is less comfortable than your own room.

    I'm still going to finish the rest of the video (I just HAD to get my congrats out as soon as I could), but every sleeper train video I watch makes me surprised these aren't more prevalent. I know it's cost and time prohibitive, but it seems so unique (if cramped).

    Yes a sleeper train video with Norm loved the angles you shot inside the room. Also an entire house that's cheaper to book than a hotel room would love to see more of these accommodations if you find them or even a short tip on how to find them. Thanks again for this year Norm.

    Ahhh I loved the Sunrise Express, I was in the same type of room as you when I went! So cool seeing your experience on it (and that house's shoji are stunning!)
    Between the shaking of the train, the announcements, and the view from the window being too beautiful to miss, I could barely sleep. But I absolutely loved the design and experience, it was so cosy. It was my first (and only so far) time in Japan, and looking out the window to the rolling hills and shrines, with Mariya Takeuchi playing in my headphones, I actually cried knowing I'd finally got to go. Nice to bring back memories with this video

    Congrats to Tammi! What an amazing opportunity and I hope you enjoy your trip to the fullest. I know I'll still be saving up to make it over there myself in a couple years hopefully. As for this video, I love seeing little peeks into the many different ways you can travel across Japan. I've been on a train once in my life and it was nothing like this lol. Awesome views and privacy (even if it looks a little tight for space) is an awesome combo. Plus shout out to that FF7 reference. We don't support Shinra but we can appreciate that connection of imagery. ;) Thanks for continuing to allow those of us not in Japan to see Japan through your eyes and experiences. I love the train by the way, just being able to watch the landscape go rolling by is pretty darn cool. Though, the night time does kinda put a damper on that, but still nightscapes of the country rolling by, or anything lit by light is still pretty neat.
    Right there with ya on the shoji. The little ornate bits of woodwork are really nice. Something about simple, but elegant wooden symmetry makes me happy.

    During COVID, the algorithm was feeding me Japan travel videos with just ambient sound and subtitled information. I enjoyed that, but craved more. I've been getting fed your videos and I feel like your content is like that with the storytelling of a Tom Scott video, and some tech doodads on the side. It's a great blend of informational while still being entertaining, and I'm appreciating it.

    These sleeper trains look really nice and cozy, but I don't know if they worth it.. at least compared to other choices. I've seen other content creators saying that it's not so comfortable to sleep, and you just end up arriving at your destination tired xd. However, even if that's true, I would choose them even for once, just to enjoy the sight ^^

    Traveling by train is so fun, it seems to be such an under rated form of travel. Norm, I’ve been exploring overnight train travel here in the states. I really enjoy it! It is so relaxing, while also getting me to desired destinations. Amtrak has been surprisingly enjoyable. My dream to return to Japan now also includes experiencing train travel there too. Cheers and have a happy new year!

    Basically the same size as a roomette on Amtrak in the US, but their bed turns into 2 seats and there's an extra bed that folds down from the top.
    I sleep like a ROCK when I get a roomette on Amtrak!
    The windows on this train are MUCH nicer than Amtrak 's dirty ones with the trim down the middle

    Passing the snowy countryside was really neat! That Japanese house was beautiful! (And an amazing price too!!) Especially the fancy shoji screens~ The designs are just so intricate and beautiful I love them.

    Thanks a lot for this travel vlog, this was great to see a bit of what traveling in Japan looks like! The accommodation looks lovely in this traditional vibe. Also I would love to hear what Okazaki-san thinks of the room you had on the train.

    I love videos about the Sunrise Express, it is concept I am not familiar with, and while they don't seem spacious or comfortable to sleep in, it looks like a good experience. If I happen to travel to Japan I'll definitely book a ride.
    And as always I appreciate your videos going for places that usually tourist don't go to, or are not shown in tourist guides

    I once took this train from Takamatsu since it was the only train that could get me back to Tokyo within the duration of my Rail Pass after a concert in the evening.
    I just had a unreserved seat on the tatami floor, but it was still one heck of an experience 😌

    Loved this video! What a lovely way to close out the year. Amazing views from the train I can see how you'd get distracted. The town and the house you stayed at are beautiful. Hope you had a much better sleep at the house than you did on the train.

    Love these vlogs, and the fact Tokyo Treat stepped up to assist 2 more viewers is fantastic. I already love those box services but they have been outstanding in sponsorship of many creators I watch content from and know they have been a big support of this channel so it’s awesome and if anyone hasn’t tried it at least one month I recommend it. Keep it up Norm. Happy new years and can’t wait to see your 2023 adventures.
