  • For this episode, I sat down with Dibakar Banerjee to have Delhi's most iconic dish, Chole Kulche, and had a multi-layered conversation about his films, school days, the star system in Bollywood, and why he seems to be disowning his earlier works.
We also discussed the current state of affairs in India and society at large, his involvement in edits and his flaws. From disagreeing on some topics to agreeing on others, we're back with another exhilarating conversation.
Popcorn ready? Laughter muscles warmed up? Then hit play and let the game begin! Presenting a brand-new episode of Unfiltered by Samdish ft. Dibakar Banerjee, powered by Woodland. #DibakarMeetsUnfiltered

I felt so many things through this interview. I feel this interview is a very solid depiction of "our times", as in the society we live in at this specific point in time. This interview can easily be a time capsule buried underneath the dirt, also called as almost every other thing on the Internet today. Years, decades may pass by and this one interview can be an accurate depiction of the times we were in. I think even the UBS team understood that, which is why they shot and edited this interview in such a unique way, almost like a documentary interview. Bhai bohot badhiya tha ye interview. Cheers bhai aapki team ko. Ek din mujhe bhi aapke saath kaam krna hai.

@@arnabthreethreesixfivethre4841 34:40 The moron says "Send the Kashmiri pandits back" .. That is an utilitarian argument, especially when anyone who is even mildly informed knows why the Kashmiri Pandits can't go back and also doesn't answer the question he was asked. I am not sure how else to describe that other than stupidity due to ideological positions.
This is one of the many examples. The moron also hinges capitalism to Dictatorship. That's also an ideological position and supremely stupid cause historically dictators have never come from capitalist systems but always from the left, be is Indira's Emergency in India when she chose to insert the word Socialist into the constitution, Hitler in Nazi (Short Nationalist Socialist) Germany or Mao, Stalin, Pol Pott in Communist countries.
Deeply ideological Dibakar Banerjee will live in a DHA house and lament about how his driver has been separated from his family but will oppose every policy that would remedy that situation.

Dibaker Banerjee was blessed with a director's eye for detail right from the first shot he ever took. He's one of those rare chaps who can almost never make a bad film.
All his films stand the test of time for me.
This is such a refreshing interview with Samdhish, the kind we are not used to watching anymore. Lots of food for thought and many controversial claims too.
He distances himself from what many including me believe to be his finest film, Khosla Ka Ghosla. He gives a perceptive analysis of Indian uncles, from KK Khosla to Raghubir Yadav in Sandeep Aur Pinky.
He talks about the "100 crore club" as a marketing ploy against the kind of films he makes and draws an interesting parallel with the demise of the 90s indie music industry.
We have forgotten conversation like this where the objective is not to agree with every statement of every person, but to generate a thoughtful discussion. Definitely worth a watch.

No, to be honest, Dibakar was going for something deeper and I personally wanted to hear more from the guest with Samdish as the medium- no one does it like he does and we love that. Yet, if Samdish didn't approach it with the personal angle then it could have gone towards questions on what is to be done in a certain system when accepting it is being criticised.
(The woodland plug was hilarious! xD)

@@abdullahhafeez2210 While I'm a fan of Samdish, I found his interview with Abdullah to be average. He could have delved deeper into the hypocrisy of mullahs and Hindu extremism, subjects he seems hesitant to address. However, makes sense because he should also steer clear of the boycott group.

That sentence was an accurate representation of the entire interview where nothing of substance was discussed. Samdish is deluded if he thinks what he’s doing is journalism- he’s a TH-camr now. Pure and simple.

Samdish, this was one of your best interviews with a filmmaker. Dibakar was so candid and fearlesss. Absolutely loved him. What a guy!

And also, fuck you @Netflix for not releasing Dibakar's film. I cannot even imagine what he must be going through. It is the saddest thing man. When I heard the cast, my eyes lit up with joy. It sucks to be in a system like this.

I love Samdish and his shows. But I liked how Dibakar challenged him intellectually - the process of how progressives are somehow coopted by Bollywood and big money. They start from the streets (as potential revolutionaries) and end up at SRK's Mannat for interviews. This observation is harsh but true. In any case, Samdish - you are a breath of fresh air. No doubt.

Par kahani aap jaise secular kei chode, Left kei dalle aise sunaoge ki UC nei SC pei kitna bada atyachar kiya
