Disconnect negative battery cable, remove tire and fender liner, move reserve coolant tank, disconnect battery cable on the alternator-13mm, unplug the sensor, take belt off idler pulley, remove idler pulley as far as it goes-15mm, go up top and remove 2-15 mm bolts holding alternator on, remove the 2 studs those bolts were attached too.. remove alternator threw the fender
I was going to say that too, this is a nice way to do it if you don't want to take the tire off or get on the ground it's not that difficult to take those bolts out just a bunch of extra steps depends on how you want to do it, like I was looking at this video and it's raining out here I have a canopy to keep the rain off my head and I really don't want to get on the ground so this is a good way to do it from the top but if it wasn't raining I would definitely take the tire off and do it the other way
those mounting studs were a nightmare! For some reason, i didn't have clearance to install the studs then slide the alternator on. i had to thread the stud while holding the alt. 30 minutes of cursing and questioning my sanity... Finally got it, great video.
DO NOT GO OFF THIS VIDEO, completely unnecessary work, you don't need to remove anything but the serpentine belt, you can reach the alternator without removing all that extra stuff mentioned here.
I had to remove the coolant hose & reservoir, engine cover & front top cover, loosened ac lines to push out the way, jacked up the car and removed tire & tire guard for better access, then loosen idler pulley all the way, then loosen tensioner to free the belt from pulley, unbolt alternator bolts then remove it from the top
I did the alternator replacement on our 2013 without doing the radiator draining and I was able to pull it from the top. Just takes patience and rotating it around obstacles.
So I'm wondering.. i have a new better as well and alternator is in place and everything is connected but no start still? Is it possible to get a jump to the car to get it started and go from there!?
If u have difficulty putting the new alternator back in on the studs bend that big ac line to the right, it should free up some room and allow u to slide up on the studs
@@terrylinellc5550seriously going through this right now. Taking it out was nowhere near like this video portrays it to be. And putting it in was equally if not more troublesome. “German” car of gmc.
I’ve been so upset for three hours, wondering why the hell the alternator mounting bolts were so long 😂😂 I couldn’t get the alternator off, come to this video and they are supposed to be unscrewed 😂😂😂😂
ALOT of extra unnecessary steps and parts removed. Just like a Haynes manual 🤦♂️ 22 years as a mechanic and the only thing these manuals were ever good for for me anyway is to look up TQ specs.
I don't mean to be a know it all, but many of the steps shown are simply not needed. 1 No need to remove radiator hose 2 No need to remove fuse box 3 No need to remove engine mount. Why GM used studs on the top is beyond me. Why GM used such a long bolt on the tensioner is beyond me.
take the whole fromt end apart for better access if ubsee a screw just unloose it ams put it to thr side in a pile should have a big pike by time u get to the belt area then disconnect headlamps and windshield wipers ans fluid res then just spray wd40 on anything old to make it shine tey tonstart jt see if it tuens over if not call a good friend amd stay off the addys
I hate when they say "remove this , remove that". Like we just know exactly what size all the nuts and bolts are. If i knew what size they were i wouldnt need half this video. Its like saying "remove alternator, replace alternator, thats how you do it."
Bad car 2- Its malfunctions are many 3- The size of the machine is too tight. Repair cannot be easily performed , I can't write all its flaws now. I need to write a book 📕 4- If you don't want to get tired, look for another car.
Thanks for the video. GMC Acadia 1st generation models are one of the most difficult to replace any engine part. Bad engine layout design.
All for an alternator replacement, thanks gmc.

I'm happy I read this while the ads rolled. Appreciate that
Thank you 🎉 👍 doing this now 😊!!!
Hey question, do i need to jack the motor first? Or just jacl the car up?
@tylerorta3875 jack the motor? Nope just jack the car up and take the inner fender liner out and follow the steps
Possibly the worst way to change the altenator lmao i was dying when it said drain the coolant 😂
😅
Right bro I was thinking why you have to drain that out ???
I was thinking the same thing 🤣
And removing so much stuff I died when he took the whole belt off lol

With my luck with Carquest parts I will check it to make sure I got a good alternator
Alternator studs are 7mm
You can get to it from the wheel well and pull it out without taking all this stuff off
Is there a tutorial out there for this? Ridiculous to have to disassemble half that engine to get to the alternator!
Ya this is just crazy. I was laughing the whole time

EXELENTE job
How mutch do labor cost to replace the alternator
belt tensioner is a 1/2 inch drive to loosen serpentine belt
Yes I caught that the video said 3/8 drive but it is a 1/2

This is the most time consuming way to replace this alternator. FFS
You didn’t need to remove the studs if the alternator goes back on it with studs replaced first before reinstalling the alternator
what ???
I have to do this on Saturday. All these extra steps make me rage. Such a waste of time.
