If you were around for secondlife in 2004-2006 or so, you would know we had more then than we have now, still. The only difference is the hardware limited simultaneous people per zone (60), but crossing zones was seemless. There was no VR. There was a full economy. USD to in game currency and back out. people made millions selling virtual crap. I knew someone that did this with virtual land. YOu could script anything, make games inside the game, and it was not limited like minecraft's blocks. You could twist primitives into meshes of any shapes. Avatars looked better than the ones on VR chat. We missed an opportunity. The company linden labs, the CEO was kind of a dolt. I spoke to him a few times. He didn't understand what he had. If SL didn't become a joke because of bad management, the developers were doing miracles for the time period. SL came out right before the explosion of load balancing cloud systems. They were doing it themselves.

Yeah I agree. Imagine huge cities like New York and LA, but without any of the crowds. Except for your average McDonald's worker, the streets would be empty, because everyone would be inside, on their headsets. That's a world I don't want to live in.
Well not exactly, because your "bank" will be located on a decentralized blockchain wallet. This wallet is "linked" to whichever metaverse platform you choose to use. As long as the financial aspect of the metaverse remains somewhat decentralized, you shouldn't worry about that. But personally, I think the real metaverse needs to be decentralized as well and not controlled by a single company. It needs to be a universal system that users can seamlessly move around without proprietary restrictions.

Zuck's sights aren't set on gaming. He wants EVERYTHING to exist in the metaverse: government, banking, every business, every private life. When you create the platform that controls everything, you control everything.
As i see it even a company like his does not have the ability. IF you create a public playground for power struggles and you sit on the keys people will start to demand access to them due to the importance of what is hosted or its simply not a good solution. : / He would need a MASSIVE monopoly akin to google to have levrege even close and slow boil society and even then google while having achived something similar is STILL not powerful enough to unify every person on one platform without demands being made the opposite way.
Zuck is so obsessed with claiming the metaverse as his own that everyone wants to beat him to it. No one wants to follow one person's grand scheme for what the metaverse should be. Especially not a slimey weasel like him.

its hilarious to even hear about the "metaverse" people dont want it at all...the world is already physically disconnected enough and people are realizing it
The funny stuff is that a metaverse would be more physicially connected thatn what we have now, at least in a proper vr social platform, your normal social instincs work normally like when you are in person with other people, and unlike in traditional social media. So a vr Social network or chat is actually a lot more personal and "physical" than what we have now that is basically text, voice or video. This is due to the parts of your brains that are in charge of social interaction working better in a space the brain mistakes to be physicial even if it isnt than when seeing a flat screen, that a big part of your social system doesnt work correctly.
as we can learn from Secondlife, Whirled, Towers Unite... the metaverse will just end up a ghost town while many people use it there's still going to be a lack of interaction.
Your comment is as valid as the masses back in the 80s say that they don't want computers at all. It's NOT about what individuals want here, at least not initially. When your environment has gotten used to something & has gotten it integrated into just about everything, the individual would, for most part, get sucked into adopting it, or get off grid in a very literal sense. & Guess which option would most people take at that point.
The question with any product is "how does this help me, what problem does it solve, how will my life be better?" I still don't understand the case for a metaverse in the first place
100% agree with you. I can see how augmented reality could increase productivity because of availability of information in real-time. I’m not seeing how productivity can increase with a meta-verse.
If you think of Ready Player One, the appeal is being something else for a few hours. That does happen with games, but the main character is you now, more than ever. If they figure out VR properly we will have completely immersing worlds in a matter of decades. I have hundreds of games and am just bored when I scroll through my library, even with the many that I haven't even touched. It's too separate from me. I'm at a point where I want to BE those things. I think that idea will be appealing to many. Doesn't make it right or wrong, just a possibility that is perhaps more enticing than another. Why is D&D more appealing than a video game? Even the ones without any visuals? To many It's because of the immersion.

I'm baffled by his point following "Isn't the metaverse just a video games?" Which is followed up with literally everything that already exists in current games: immersive environments, virtual economies, customizable avatars... what's the new part??!
There's no difference. Even when it's mastered fully, and fully realized for all to use, it'll be no different. It's a fancy video game for people to play. The advancement of hardware to make it feel more realistic, one step at a time, getting us closer to a full on simulation environment. Then it'll be better. I'm thinking of movies like gamer or ready player one. That'll be the next level, until then it is just a virtual hangout
The data in games are generated by the game, a server, other players, etc. Nothing new. Even Mixed Reality on Windows allows you to plug in 'smart' meters, televisions and other home appliances, so the television decodes the signal from your provider and feeds the screen output to your computer. Again, nothing new. In business, VR is used to design, develop, build your own workstation just the way you like it without it requiring it buying new furniture or being limited by building size, greatly increasing the production value per person. Again, nothing new (and not something you might want to plug into a metaverse, especially if it's also connected to your actual production machinery or finances). What is new is the implementation of these 3 into 1 virtual environment, both off- and online. The principal has been explored for decades in games (within games within games), movies, books, developer showcases, etc. It's just the implementation that is beginning to take shape, but it is still a LOOOONG way off before we get to that point where most people work with VR, AR or similar / combined technology. Just think about, during the CoVID pandemic, how many businesses allow and implement working from home. That alone already is a huge issue, talking to others with a webcam that not everybody has, through a microphone that not everybody has, over a stable internet connection that not everybody has (especially the US, or so I hear 😁). This is not going to happen anytime soon 😉

You’re right. Just not on the graphics as of within several years. The main principle here especially when it comes to metaverse (building within the metaverse) and console(gaming)… on consoles you wasting your time/life and throwing away your money. “In the metaverse” you will be able to spend your time productively also have an income you could play.. play to earn games.. gamble.. flip nfts have your own store.. your own brand.. own land etc etc There are a lot of cons DONT get me wrong this shit is crazy but if things do turn out to be greater than our expectations do believe many will be living within the mateverse. Regarding investing.. I’d 100% be investing in the metaverse just make sure.. DYOR and only only put down what you wouldn’t mind losing on a rainy day 👌 as far as gaming if spending and making money is built in then I’d say both will have there own communities and both would be a smart investment.. as we are all still early.
Exactly, I keep telling people that barely anyone solely plays one game for long periods. They move from game to game, so if there are constantly games that allow you to play to earn then they will skip to the next best thing. Play to earn is the only reason people may stay in a game when they dont want to really play it but it pays, however if a new one turns up that is better but pays slightly less they will go where the fun is. Also people have been talking about "life like" graphics for years and we still arent anywhere close to real life. For what reason sitting with a VR headset on for long periods is an awful experience. I had a PSVR and after the intial fun I had which lasted for only about half a day, I couldnt play it because the combination of unclear graphics and motion which isnt normal for the mind to experience made me not want to play it. I think we are a at least 20 years away from really life like graphics but I may be wrong. Ever new gaming upgrade is better but its just slightly better compared to what came before, there is never a massive jump in graphics.

Facebook didn't do a 50 billion dollar stock buy back because the company is failing or needs money. They done because they are developing something big and they know it for a fact. The rich get richer. Buy Facebook stock right now.
Facebook is currently working on various haptic gadgets to enable people experiencing a complete and almost realistic immersion into the meta verse and guess who would need to buy them to play the line of immersive games Microsoft is potential proposing to create??? Facebook strategy is not even game creation or new software, Facebook strategy is to be the gate keeper and entrance into the metaverse, most definitely, there will de endless creator community and Facebook can’t at this point compete with that so instead of competing with something I don’t dominate or cant realistically dominate, why don’t i compete with what I actually have and I can realistically own…and since Facebook already dominates the social media space, why not just migrate it from web 2 to web 3 and make people spend twice the amount they already are spending and enter the metaverse using the best vr gadget which would be owned and probably even trademarked by Facebook???
I been interacting in a virtual reality for 17 years, I know how it affects human behavior. Meta are talking about being aware of your home surroundings while you in VR so it scans everything in your home so you don't bump into stuff. That kind of data would be valuable don't you think.
One big issue other than using heavy, hot, crusty headsets is that a lot of people will have headaches, dizziness and eye issues, hopefully they don't expect to add wireless radiation to devices that go right next to your brain...

As far as I can tell no one has demonstrated the need for “meta”. Video games allow you to pretend to experience things you couldn’t normally do. What does “meta” add or allow you to do that you couldn’t otherwise? Computers allow home users to complete task and find information easier. How does it improve this or make a similar metric better?

Imagine how that would change home touring where you open a door and your looking at another potential house 30 km away from the first one. Or window shopping a digital mall where you can “filter” which stores you actually care about or teleporting to the store you’re actually interested in. Imagine going to work as just walking through another door in the house. Imagine browser tabs as just a stack of files on the desk next to you, tab groups are now just a separate stack. Humans are naturally three dimensional creatures. I think the “meta verse” would break all the physical barriers you would normally encounter in a physical world. Whether that’s a good or bad thing for the future of humanity, that’s a whole other topic.
@@raytso only works effective when metaverse 100 % effective in deceiving human perspective. that's why they need to share the fallacy from now on, to change human perspective so that human would believe that metaverse is equal to reality.
For people who are depressed and bored (somehow), and many who want to escape the society in real life, example is those NEETs in my country japan, this will me very great for them. Online, they are given an avatar, that is, their exclusive, discrete identification in a virtual world they are going to. No one will know how they look like in real world, just maybe some guys with a handsome/cool design wandering around the metaverse. They don't have to think about their weaknesses being shown to another, bacause in this world of number, data and statistic, you have a loophole to virtually alleviate those problems, but only temporary, if you know what I mean. Escaping the truth, it is. In short, metaverse is beneficial for those type of people the most. (Sorry if my English is bad, I'm still learning)
@@JanisBebritis Really? Its very easy at my work to join teams meetings. We've been doing it for a couple of years of work from home now, and its my favourite one to use.

MS has a lot of software presence. Meta said they would support domain servers, but MS certainly has more experience in this area and is in a better position to ensure better integration and that is less work for IT who makes recommendations. Remote employees are not going to be clambering for virtual meetings that they would rather be emails. However management wants to manage and VR can help. The employee wants higher freedom, higher pay and lower workloads, but management wants the opposite, and they make the decisions. It's a lot easier to manage when you can go into a person's space. Email tag and zoom is like cat wrangling. We will see who offers the better value proposition for remote management, remote team building, and ecosystem. The last one favors MS big time. I do hear that there is indecisiveness at MS on basic things like will they be putting out the hardware or just the software.
In my the only way for web 3.0 aka metaverce is if Neuralink creates a Matrix like level brain interface and build ..or with other companies...the Matrix...other than that..vr headsets can't compete with computers for productivity and...fun..they are an ad on...but the Matrix will not come without increasing the Output bandwidth of people by orders of magnitude.
From a gamers perspective, having a company that acts like EA (Electronic Arts) to buy the dev studio that makes/made the games you enjoy... is the easiest way to lose fans. Reputation matters.
but it also depends on the studio tbh. Given how awful Blizzard's reputation was during these past few years (especially with the harassment claims & corporate politics), a management switch might be a great way to leverage interests & build customer reputation (especially given how windows is synonymous with pcmr).

Don't want to test it with my main rig. Have a laptop, but that one already has a distro that I'll be keeping for the time being.
I actually love that theory. Some people can know the future and have so much power, but yet fail to win in the race. However, I wouldn’t under estimate the power of Facebook. Though it’s true they don’t control the software and gaming companies that would populate the devices of the future.
And back when Bill Gates was talking about the internet & smartphones, someone would be saying the same thing you are about Zuc.. to not underestimate. I feel this whole video is put together to highlight the point: don't overestimate Meta(company). Because at the moment their strong hand is relying on the lay man to assume that the Zucerverse is too big not to win, the second that is doubted the house of cards falls.
VR for office work is a guise to hide its real purpose. We communicate with various chat tools, skype, teams, symphony, webex, etc. As a programmer, a VR headset would interfere with productivity. Though for my hobby it would be nice to view my CAD models in VR headset since it is difficult to get a grasp of shape sometimes.
I've never understood what a metaverse does that various other apps and sites don't already do. If I want to buy something, I go to that site. Centralizing literally everything into one digital service just adds a middleman. Some people talk about metaverses as if they're the future, but the way it's described honestly sounds like how someone from the 1980s would envision the future, not a modern tech user.
VR allows applications that are currently unthinkable. For example you could have your chinese-learning study group in a virtual bar, where you interact directly with other learners. An AI teacher could teach you how to fly a Lockheed Martin F-35, without any risk of damaging a real plane, but with enough realizm that you could actually fly that plane in real life. There could be VR hookup portals, VR prostitution, VR dating, VR porn, VR AI-Sex portals where you'd have near-real virtual sex. You could learn to drive a car in VR space. You could have sessions with a doctor or psychiatrist online. You could have 3d-design-applications, where you really interact with the thing you're building. You could do all your studies in VR, providing you all the "physical" tools you need. Need a Raspberry PI? a 3d Printer? a CNC machine? a laser? That all can be simulated in VR. You could (learn to) do art in VR, without needing any material whatsoever. Now a metaverse is not really required for all these applications, more advanced VR is enough for that. But facebook wants your data, and if VR applications can be built very easily on facebooks metaverse, other companies might decide to build their VR applications for that platform, which will result in more data for facebook, but also better and cheaper VR applications from other companies.

Nothing revolutionary in the aspects of video games the only thing that will be “revolutionary” is the further evolution of how Facebook gathers data. voice, interaction, conversation, and contacts will all be gathered within the space since the traditional way is being regulated.
@pyropulse you act like that’s not the point. I hate to say it, but when a good chunk of the country is people who must have the “new big thing”, it’s the smart business move to make. Not every tech is going to be a generational upgrade. Take 3D TVs for example, where companies were sure they would be the next step of video consumption. They were just dead wrong. Comparing the global effect of VR to computers is like comparing apples to oranges. What could be done in VR is so much fractional than what general computers can do.
Yeah. The biggest thing here is the huge disconnect that a lot of gamers have with the rest of the world. They see the numbers but only part of them. In reality, VR is just a toy in the eyes outside of gaming, and thats because its always been for gaming. This kind of social norm will be incredibly difficult to change, and that change most certainly isnt with Metaverse, especially with its close tie with NFTs actively kurt cobaining it every step of the way. If anything Metaverse is only further damaging any chance of VR becoming more than what it is, which honestly there wasnt much of a chance to begin with, when AR or Augmented Reality is a much more enticing opportunity that has been slowly growing over the last decade, and is already in the hands of every single individual who happens to have a phone.

To have something like what we see in Ready POne they will need massive effort and motivation beyond just money to develop the tech. They will need something new that can integrate new things at runtime, fast pace without breaking, in a way never before seen.
Ready Player 1 will never be reality. There will never be a platform like that that everyone is interested in. Most people are going to still prefer other hobbies.

For anyone still confused as to what the metaverse is, there is a good movie (originally a book) that actually shows what the metaverse is striving to be. It is called Ready Player One. It is more about having one shared universe with seamless transitions between play spaces and worlds. The current version of Meta’s (metaverse) is you get small play spaces that are not connected together. You have to teleport to the location you want and it is tiny maps. @@nerdyworld938 Impossible to say as technology is way too far from an actual metaverse being viable. @@nerdyworld938 At first the Corporate Workplace, especially in the tech and energy sectors, is moving toward gamification, individuality, free and open collaboration. The core systems for the Next Generation internet and collaboration experiences are already in the process of transformation from currently used tools (Teams, Office 365, OneDrive, Yammer, and the AI/Machine Learning they are doing in Azure and with MS Dynamics) to next generation platforms as a service that can be integrated into just about anything you can imagine. These sorts of dynamics are best suited for MS to hit. You develop the architecture and middleware integration while building out for Corporate use whose use cases and throughput should scale very linearly and not cause too many development challenges. You then scale up the deployments and bring in your game developers to reskin and flex the platform's muscles in the entertainment space. Core Process capture, Network Latency improvements, and HW Virtualization will enable more secure and more direct connection between your peripherals and the platform's systems and/or allow a PC or Consoles to have a more direct link with the backend than current launcher client style connections. Games like Roblox demonstrate the kinds of infinite iteration that will eventually become ubiquitous in Entertainment Development space, and the market for modding and 3D Art is simply going to explode with no hope of meeting demand for quite some time if ever.

I don't think people really want to live in a VR world, where we interact with others there. For gaming sure, it's cool, but not something you want to do for long periods, the problem with VR is it takes you OUT of reality, blocking your sight/sound I think the future is going to be more in augmented reality, where you can have real life with extra info on your HUD.
It is interesting. Face to face is how its always been. A human kind of needs that connection. Although, the human is also an animal. And I'd like to think we are in the process of taming said animal and primal urges and desires. This need for connection as it has been is one of them. Being a part of a small tribe is an experience, but so is being a part of a global mass. And nothing sort of a global nuclear Armageddon will make tribe based operations the norm again. Sure, most of the time people end up filling each moment with stimulus that doesn't further the being itself to any meaningful direction. But it doesn't mean it always has to be that way. But it doesn't mean treading backwards is the way as well. The brain and mind transcends the flesh body and animal form that is a human. There is no need to limit yourself to the physical body when the mind is capable of much more.
hmm this "metaverse" idea will make us more social than we are right now. even if a lot of our interaction with each other is behind a screen, we still dont see each other unless its a video call and even then most people prefer to have their cameras off. 95% of the time I spend with my friends is through texting. With my family, it's through a phone call a few times a week. I think it would be a little cool if we can see and interact with each other virtually in whatever setting and doing whatever we want to do. especially when everyone doesnt live in the same place or have the same schedules. I doubt it will replace "reality" the way people are acting like it will. at the end of the day, unless they can completely replicate our senses and nature, we will NEED to go outside. No matter how great they make. a VR trip to the bahamas, most people will still want to go to the bahamas in person. it's just that most people CANT go in person. if the world were better and more fair, things like this wouldnt even be a threat because life itself will have all the excitement we need. but big tech targets our dopamine receptors because everyone is grasping for the thrill and happiness that capitalism has worked its hardest to take away
Zuck's Metaverse is like digital Amway compared to what most have experienced, in truth the billions he'll lose will be the price he pays for making the world cringe.
Petrochemical plants using the metaverse? I see hacking as a threat. I don’t know of any plant using this, or any other platform. It’s all under lock and key, tight security.
It's already here, not metaverse like - but industrial machines and equipment connected in separete network, centrally managed. It's called OT Networks and SCADA Systems. The key to keeping them safe is to make them separeted as much as it's possible from normal ethernet network / Internet. IMO VR technologies may appear in that Industrial systems - it will be just different representation of data. Maybe some companies will switch to that but I don't think it will be a big number of them.
In 1903 a bank refused to lend to Henry Ford saying "The horse is here to stay, but the automobile is only a novelty-a fad." What I find amazing is we are living in the most innovative time in human existence, people over 35-40 can remember having o cell phones, no internet, and then dial-up when it came out where you were limited to how long you could be online each day! Set TV schedules, video cassettes and having to go to cinema or video store to see a film you wanted instead of immediate availability, driverless cars, digital cameras instead of having to send photos away to be developed, etc etc and yet so many seem to still be skeptical about this Metaverse. One point I'd make is that it's not M'soft vs F'book, it's M'soft AND F'book, and many other companies all working on the same idea. Think of other industries online like social media sites, games makers, game console makers, cell phone makers, PC makers, operating systems. It's almost never one company owning all the pie so if you think of it that way, it's pretty risky betting against the Meaverse.
The “Metaverse” would definitely have to be built from a new experience. Microsoft has an advantage in that they have great intellectual property to include in their metaverse if they wanted to. Microsoft’s metaverse would resemble more of the Ready Player One metaverse than what Facebook could do, simply because you’d have familiar video game characters and environments that players can play alongside with! But the way video games have been built and are continuing being built, just doesn’t support a metaverse. It just doesn’t work that way. Microsoft would have to build from scratch for a platform and really plan out the experience because once you start, there’s no going back or redesigning from the ground up. So Facebook has the advantage there. Apple might actually be the underdog and black swan of this industry because they’ve been secretly working on their own VR headset and OS called RealityOS for YEARS! It should be announced later this year, but with Apple’s engineering and design team, that beast M1 chip, and Apple Arcade, Music, TV, and apps they already have what they have the advantage on both sides.
The metaverse appeals to younger people and millennials because they don’t know any better and haven’t yet accomplished much or built any wealth in the real world. New flash: Ready Player One, and the Metaverse, and anything in between is just stupid. It’s ok as a form of entertainment for a while, maybe for a few years, but there is nothing there. You will just be poorer and weaker and stupider for wasting too many years of life there. It’s like playing a well done MMORPG for a long time. Sure it will be fun, and if you didn’t afford to travel or do real things you will benefit a bit. But the downsides are massive. You will own fewer houses or smaller houses or worse cars, and afford fewer hours of daycare to take care of any kids you manage to ever have, which you will be less prepared to care for, etc etc etc. No you will not discover amazing things there, as it’s by definition written by people based on models of the world not the actual unknown physical world. Maybe it can teach a few things better, such as giving a 3D tour inside a pyramid without having the physically go there or show how organic molecules interact or how human organs function medically, but unfortunately such benefits are fairly minor compared to the drawbacks. Having a better google search/internet to learn things does NOT offset the loss of the physical world through time spent there.
@@miikkakangas6750 you're wrong..."millenials haven't accomplished much", these are people born in 80's and they didn't accomplished much...beg to differ. Also this discourse was kept by parents in 90-00's when we had our first pc and spent a lot of time on it...guess who is unemployed today and need constant help in a lot of things related to their own personal lifes. As any old generation when things are missunderstood, they are just looked upon...what's so important to talk to someone via a device instead of just getting the car, going there and speak in person... Of course you can invest your time and energy in different things and have another outcome. I for example studied programming, learnt some things, use them everyday to create some value, others might have stayed on facebook and learnt nothing, but don't treat technology as being useless just because you don't get it, evolve. They would if it creates value. Basically the cost of a new monitor, maybe 2x the cost, and many employees have more than one monitor for a reason (increases productivity). However, there needs to be a killer app with obvious benefits for the business.
@@Martinit0 I have worked at a number of large organisations where trying to get them to pay a couple hundred bucks for a second monitor or software to more effectively manage and plan work has been like squeezing blood from a stone. VR isn't just a screen or an app it has WH&S considerations, significant hardware requirements, incompatibility with bespoke applications, and potentially a large amount of training and process redesign to implement. Creating value is a low bar. It has to create more than a threshold amount of the right kind of value without creating too large an impact on the organisation and key staff before there is good reason to even consider implementation. VR is not a effective replacement for physical proximity when it comes to building relationships and collaborative interaction.
Lol...it's like say in 80s the same about PC xD maybe your company shold be more reactive to dominating technologies of the "future" where for future I mean 4 years
I just cant see the "metaverse" really being more than a gimmick. I just see it as just the internet with extra steps and it cannot be a true metaverse if one company controls everything. I love VR but I don't think Meta is truly taking advantage of the unique possibilities VR has.
The funny thing about MMOs, the massively multiplayer part, is that the overwhelming majority of players solo by choice, never join a guild, & never talk to anyone. If this asocial behavior carried over to the Metaverse, what kind of effect would it have?
I'd say that the Metaverse is going to be more like VRchat with business and work related activities along with real life app and website integration instead of it being like an MMO like 'ready player one'. Sure there would be games but it will just be a part of it. Imagine living inside your phone or PC, everything in it (Apps, games, social media) turned into a digital space where you can walk around or live in. My point being that the Metaverse will be a means of socializing rather than gaming, very similar to VRchat. The final objective for Metaverse will be to have you do everything inside it rather than using your computer or phone.
It's kind of different. WoW for the most part isn't making these people asocial. They already are, and they go into the game that way. Meta would have people who are already sociable, going into it. Basically I see it as this, WoW is a game, with socializing as a secondary. Meta would be a hub for socializing, with gaming as a secondary.
@@BelieveInUrself93 Meta would make the world more lonely bc people would avoid real in person interactions even more. There's a huge difference between sitting across from someone and seeing their entire body language and being able to look into their real eyes and some 3d version..
@@witoldschwenke9492 That's a way to look at it for sure. The VRScape of things right now lets a lot of those previously mentioned asocial people share a 3D space in a world they might otherwise not venture out into (or not be ABLED to venture out into). So for some people, it's giving them an accessible way to socialize on a level they're comfortable with. It's not what a meaningful social interaction might look like to you or to me, sitting next to a 3D avatar instead of a physical human body, but it sure is to them. For the rest of us who prefer the real life engagement, I don't think we could ever be swayed to live inside the metaverse anyways so it's nothing to worry about. I look at the potential for a metaverse with a lot of optimism and try to believe it could only ever remove barriers that cause isolation and loneliness. Maybe that's naive, who knows. Time will tell. But I don't think the world could get any lonelier than it is right in this moment.

I think stepping down as Microsoft's CEO might have been one of the best business decisions B Gates ever made. MS were quite late to join the internet market largely to his lack of vision, Gates just wanted to make software. But the speed in which they caught up is insane. Here in South Africa the cloud market is literally split in half between AWS and Azure, which was unthinkable just 2 years ago
The thing about South Africa, and the rest of Africa, though, is that 95% of the population do not have access to and/or can't afford the technology, and will never be able to, because before they reach the point where they could, what's left of humanity will have been bombed back to the stone age.

As long as the financial aspect of the metaverse remains somewhat decentralized, you shouldn't worry about that.

its hilarious to even hear about the "metaverse" people dont want it at all...the world is already physically disconnected enough and people are realizing it
The funny stuff is that a metaverse would be more physicially connected thatn what we have now, at least in a proper vr social platform, your normal social instincs work normally like when you are in person with other people, and unlike in traditional social media.

If you think of Ready Player One, the appeal is being something else for a few hours. That does happen with games, but the main character is you now, more than ever. I have hundreds of games and am just bored when I scroll through my library, even with the many that I haven't even touched. It's too separate from me. I'm at a point where I want to BE those things. Even the ones without any visuals? To many It's because of the immersion.

metaverse = video games for normies thats what it is
there for its new
There's no difference.

I think a good example would be teleportation. Imagine a digital copy of the world where you can jump around easily/instantly, not just page to page but actual immersive environments.

They should rename Zuck’s metaverse to Zetaverse. It perfects the stupidity
With that being said - imagine spending a few hundred thousand on a picture of an ape.
What "can" be done, is far different than what will be done. Too closed minded.

For gaming sure, it's cool, but not something you want to do for long periods, the problem with VR is it takes you OUT of reality, blocking your sight/sound I think the future is going to be more in augmented reality, where you can have real life with extra info on your HUD.
The last memory I have of several people is them buried in their phones. The notion of community is false. This is the wrong direction.

Also speak about human organs studies and interaction on organic molecules as "fairly minor" is just madness. We have our current technology today only because of consumers
@@rob.ale90 That guy seems like some dimwitted dick who can't comprehend that advanced tech we have & use today are rarely the sum of hard work from one person or organization, & that whatever kind of tech is developed will always find use in other areas that it ain't meant for in the first place.
@@miikkakangas6750 im very much part of the vr community since the pandemic and i must say it was the best choice of my life.
I'm over 30 with the experiance from playing on the streets as kids , soccer with all the neighbourhood kids , going to discos, vacationing with the family and friends in a riverside house to everyone getting their first pc-s and making massive lan partys , the internet growing and everyone switching to online games and now vr.
You think that the vr world is just a copy of the real world an its nothing amazing or new, well you are wrong on that , sure the real world has a huge influence on it but its by no means limited by it , in fact the only border is ones imagination , in Vrchat every user is also a potential developer , yup thats right, they give you the freedom to upload your own content , that means you can create just about anything you can imagine , i seen a lot of things that absolutely blew my mind , met and befriended amazing talented and kind people from all around the globe from ALL age groups , i shared my good times and bad times with them , i laughed , danced, sang , cried, hugged , learned , stood shoulder to shoulder and worked hard with them , some of them i even met in real life since and plan to meet a whole lot more.
All and all i have never been more happy in my life.
And just for the record , no im not lacking anything in the real world either.
Tech companies might pay several hundred bucks per employee for VR, but I doubt very much that non-tech companies will. Mine certainly wouldn't!
yeah well they dont have to. they probably dont even know about vr's existence
This shows if your job is important or not. If you can work in the metaverse you dont contribute anything lol
Tariq Bin Ziyad very interesting take thanks !
Your analysis on this specific subject "exceeded my expectations". I am seeing you for the first time and I am already sure that you will become one of the best tech bloggers in the very near future! Good luck!
He doesnt know what KILLED means. Killed means its already dead.
@@osah712 That was a "clickbait". If you listen carefully to his first sentence you will hear: Microsoft is "about to kill Zuckerberg's metaverse" )))
Hé nou ik moet nog onthouden
Wat moet ik daar nog wel onthouden hè maar ik wil toch een beetje weten waar ik morgen mee moet nemen we allemaal niet meer praten oké
That is wild considering AWS owned the cloud.
@@dadmobile960 exactly. I think AWS build their first data center here in the 2010s, and recently opened one 2020. Could have my dates wrong but the point is Azure should not even be in the conversation and yet they are. A lot of companies are migrating to Azure
@@OldRhino I don't see the relevance of your point but ok.
No way .. and "Meta" is already here so what do you mean "before it launches" Microsoft cannot compete. Zuk is focused solely on this
