I've heard more than one story of engineers going out to China to work on tools and having their note books stolen or catching Chinese workers poking around on there laptop. They are decades behind the west at the cutting edge. Decades of short cutting R&D by stealing has meant they have basically lost the ability to innovate.

A hard-working and hard-studying student scored As, but the ganster of the class bullied him and said you copy my paper! Interestingly, the good student said let's cooperate together and welcome the 5G era. The bully said, no way and asked all the other students not to learn, use, or borrow the good student's method. The bully repeatedly tell a story about stealing, genocide, or threat from the A student..... No matter what the good student does, he's wrong, why? He should've never worked so hard to improve himself. There's only one rule in this class, that is, the bully should always be the A student, even when he loses or doesn't work hard enough. Whoever advances himself would have to be oppressed by the ganster group led by the bully. Check out Japan's story back in 1970s and 1980s. Who's next? India?

    * May I also remind you the fact that our Native American population in our motherland, the Continent of America before the European Colonizers arrived, was around 15 millions, while the European population in their motherland, the Continent of Europe was around 25 millions.
Today, Native American population is 15 million, while the European population, in the Continents of America + Europe, is a staggering TWO BILLION! A shocking sad truth. 😔
In my humble opinion, it's about time to decolonize the Colonized lands, and return it to rightful owners Native American people.

China's R&D spending is 3X that of the US in term of PPP-adjusted dollar and have been for a decade but you'll never hear American officials admit the US is falling behind. Every Chinese breakthrough is always stolen from the US even when the US have nothing equivalent.
J-20 have higher speed, bigger payload, and way more range than F-22 and F-35 and is also the first 5th generation jet with 2 seats for networked drone warfare. But its all copied from F-22 and F-35 even though it'll be America's 6th generation NGAD jet that will have feature parity with J-20

They stole then made china specific changes as per their war doctrine. The greater range and higher payload is a given because of the bigger size of J20

They should have lots and lots of bogus files with all sorts of bad engineering, so that sorting through them would be a nightmare and if you were not sure it was real, you would be too scared to waste funds on making a potential detour. The real files would still be known by the engineers, but that sort of info is easier to keep secret.

I@@_--Reaper--_ I guess you have point there. No one really does, and as long as the USA sees it as looking like the f35 on the outside they probably need to assume that it is also so on the inside. For China, even if they did not achieve 100% success, just having the USA back away and assume they did, becomes a win in itself. So point well made. We will not know the truth till both these jets fight it out against each other and none of us wish it will ever come to that.
