Shawn, I’ve been trying to manipulate the club for 40 years!! Played a few holes with my kids and father-in-law. Let the kinetic sequence happen and piped my driver 250 (and that’s without even going after it). Made easy pars and bogies. Excited about golf again. Thank you!!
Student of golf swing for over 40 years. My belief is the bottom controls the top!! Shawn your methods prove that 💯 Here in NH too cold to play. Haven’t swung a club in two weeks. Took a seven iron to our heated outdoor range. All I did was to make sure my posture was as you say feeling of suction cups, with good hip turn I just tossed the club almost straight up in the air forgetting all these b.s. positions and produce one nice high draw after another. Easy Pezzy 👍
Finding your videos has been so liberating for my golf game. What you teach has been how I've instinctually wanted to address the ball and swing but I've been fighting my body to maintain a neutral grip and steady body in back swing. Thank you
Thanks for another great video, your explanation of how the body works to achieve the task of hitting to the target is wonderful. I can’t tell you enough how much you’ve saved my game. Cheers and make it a great day!

"cut the grass" sure makes the swing much more intuitive. Everything falls into place...the grip, the backswing, and the downswing. And, it's self adjusting no mater the length of the club. "brush the grass" does the same for putting. Could it be this blanking simple??? And all this time, I have been making it sooooo hard. Oh, and I am not telling my friends about this :D
Hi Linda! 😝😀👍 Yes, this simple for sure! The game of golf is pure meditation for me and so many of my students as we are simply aware of the target and flight plan, and we are connecting this task to that flight plan. Cut through the stem of that fake dandelion in the direction we want to start the ball with ease and velocity. Observe with no judgement how the ball flies and if the patterns are the right flavour, you keep going and if the patterns are not then you adjust one or more of these 4 items: see “how to put the ball in the way of your swing shawn clement golf wrx”
I have been away from golf for a few months due to other projects which I have been involved in. This video grabbed my attention because this is a subject that I have focused on in the past. Pelvic tilt is obtained by the lead knee breaking in and the trail leg extending. Savy has wonderful pelvic tilt for sure. Excuse me for saying but I feel her shoulder tilt is on the flat side. I feel this is not due to her anatomy. but is a product of her posture at setup. When the shoulders and scapula reach for the ball and slump forward a flat shoulder turn usually is the result. If Savy would retract the scapula's and get the sternum up at address her shoulders would turn or a more tilted axis. There is nothing wrong with a one plane setup but the scapula's must be retracted in order to maintain neutral spine alignment. By letting the shoulders slump forward it is an out of position condition right out of the gate. Great video guys and gal. I love those hats. Thank yinz
Ok Mike, but how do you explain her power and accuracy? You are asking he to play Pinocchio with her shoulder blades and we are simply not built neurologically to do that; so what kind of task would you suggest she do to not need to think about that?
@@golflessons Power and accuracy is an unachievable goal . We must all strive towards improving both. It is an never ending endeavor. Hi Shawn, im having trouble with the "task" thing? How does cutting grass and sending clippings towards the target - is that not the same as sending the ball to the target?
Yes! Exactly! The problem with most golfers is that when they look at the ball, they have trained their brains to hit the ball and they constantly default to it and forget the target; that is when we go to a task to change the direction of the swing!
Great video Shawn and gang. So great to see the myths of positions dispelled. Also, wondering if you have a video anywhere on breathing for the golf swing? I'd be really curious to get your thoughts on it.
There is no breathing in the swing; it lasts 2 seconds and the breath is 5 seconds. My son is a BMX rider and his laps are 35 to 40 seconds all out like swimmers in the 50 yard sprints that don’t come up for air for the whole lap. Much has been overblown about what to do with breath…are you thinking tennis player grunting? We keep things way low on the effort scale to get kinetic chain engagement because nothing ruins a good golf swing like STRAIN.
@@golflessons Thanks Shawn, I guess I was more thinking where to hold the breath during a swing, more similar to Olympic weight lifting. Whether the breath should be used to stabilise the core (breathing low down, not chest breathing) to enable maximal efficiency of the kinetic chain. I guess it wouldn't be as extreme as a heavy deadlift but some tension might be required to connect the lower body to the upper body with more stability. I'll do some experimentation.

Shawn, you have the most right arm bend in the downswing that I have ever seen!!! I guess that is necessary for you to shallow the club from such a vertical position at the top? Interesting. Golf swing is such an individual thing huh?
Yes, the thing is that I am not thinking about it; I am focused on throwing the club into the direction I want the ball to start on with a nice flow of momentum and velocity and a lot of ease. I loved playing baseball as a kid and had a good arm which explains the trail elbow (you will see this when watching baseball pitchers in slow motion) See all my “throwing the club shawn clement” and combine that with “how to put the ball in the way of the golf swing shawn clement golf wrx”
Left shoulder down in the back swing until you can cut grass on the way down gives you the correct shoulder tilt . Simple and works for the individual.
Great illustration as always Shawn! Towards the end of the video (when you can see slow mo of you and your daughter's swing at the top). Is it the camera angle or is she too deep? It appears as though her hands at the top are past her heels. I'm only asking because my plane is more similar to Sev's and I have to keep reminding myself not to get too deep... or is this something I should ignore?
You definitely have options there as the chip and short pitch don’t require a strong grip because the side spin is significantly reduced since the velocity is less! Also, you will benefit more on the bounce of the club for certain open faced chips and pitches. Savannah on the other hand, keep the same grip and just opens the face more. PLENTY OF OPTIONS! 😀👍
George Knudsen talked about swinging with a cigarette in your mouth to correct his shoulder plane (you will instinctively tilt your shoulders to the target to prevent from knocking it out of your mouth with your shoulder). Hogan also smoked while practicing. In the slow mo of your swing at the end of this video, it looks like you'd have no issues with smoking while swinging a club. When I do the grass cut drill, there is no way my I could hold anything in my mouth without hitting it with my left shoulder on the backswing and my right bicep on the follow through. I don't smoke and Im not going to start, I just wondered about your thoughts on this.
it is not about making theories plausible; it is about function in the task. we don’t do positions because humans suck at positions. The way a model shuffles around the cat walk would not do very well walking through the woods on a hike!

It happens especially with the driver and any club that isn't an iron. And my balance is awful at times. When I was new to golf and didn't know anything I hit them so much further on average. Would what you're discussing in this lesson apply here? It feels like it to me when I'm practicing and/or playing. They're the clubs I have the most trouble in trying to find and feel it.
