Abdel Halim was orphaned at a young age and lived parts of his childhood in an orphanage. He suffered from poor health for a big part of his life. This may explain the sadness in his voice.
And most importantly he suffered from schistosomiasis. So he needed to drink water often on stage (which he got juged for and had to explain) and sometimes coughed blood 😰 he suffered a lot and died young at 47
Abdel Halim Hafez was a conductor he studied in the music academy for 4 years. He played the oud, the guitar, the piano and he was also proficient in the oboe which is one of the most difficult musical instrument to master.l
When you said" it is sad that those legendary singers are not among us" I can't hold my tears💔 Because the bad story is that abdelhalim died because of his illness in the age of 47💔 may God make his soul rest in peace🙏 He made our days by his great lovely vocals even after his death...and now in 2021 we still listening to him and pray for him to be in heaven inshallah💜
Halim ,as pp used to call him, suffered a lot in his life since he was a child ,raised in an orphanage due to the death of his mother and no one was to take care of him, though he had a father , brothers and a sister. Then, he was taken back by his family. He was rejected as a singer by the audience when he started his career due to his different way of singing which was free of extravagance. As a young man, he discovered his deadly disease which consumed his power. Unfortunately, some accused him of pretending ill to gain sympathy. Moreover, his first love died leaving that sense of sadness in his voice. About the lyrics, he is in love with a girl who ignores him . He wishes that he could forget her,but instead he forgets her harsh attitude and longs for his agony in loving her. When he happens to see her , she pretends to be busy to see him though looking her in the eyes .And people around them talk about what is going on between them and she hides it. What is in his hand was a gift from one of the audience.
here Halim was around 46, he died at 47 just few months after this concert.. but because of his suffering he looks like 60 tbh.. he could have given us music another 20 years .. But at least his death stopped his suffering, may he rest in peace
I was just listening to this Song as Mum and Dad, Loved him too and Uhm Kaltoom amongst many legendary Eygyptian Singers of their time. It's very enriching, and brings me back to my childhood in Australia with my parents😥😥 missing their Lebanon home😘 and families as they courageously built a home for us all in this new Beautiful Country we now call home❤📿🙏
he made many sad songs because his first love died when she was so young in her early 20's before even he became a famous singer. He made a song specially for her it is called في يوم في شهر His second love was a legendary beautiful actress "Soad Hosny" and she made few songs in her movies you can react on it you will love it as well . But unfortunately he didnt marry her
Salam my friend!! Thank you very much for listening to such a golden masterpiece that leaves a trace behind every listener's heart. This song means so much to me, and I love it dearly. I'm not from his generation, and I didn't live to see him or go to his performances, but his songs do not fail in reaching the depths of the hearts of many generations.
As you said, the translation is not completely express the real meaning of the song, but i wish you enjoy the song and the vocal because this song is one of most famous songs for Abdel Halim and for the classic musics, Thanks for the great reactions. 👍🌹
His life was never easy. His talent is incredible.. and had so many troubles in his career due to kalthoum's jealousy. She loved being THE goddess. And you totally got his essence when you said he sings with his entire soul. He is a legend.
Oum Kalthoum was never jealous, it may have been implied by the younger generations however the musicians in the golden era of Egypt had already reached the top, they never tried to compete with each other and they never displayed insecurity, they all performed out of passion and love for Egypt.
Some Turkish people (as usual) claim this song is a Turkish song sung by a Selami Şahin But Selami Şahin was born in 1948 This song was sung in an Egyptian movie in 1956 Unless Selami Şahin sang it when he was 7 years old then it is an Arabic song Turkish people usually borrow a lot of Arabic songs because the Arabic music is soooooooooooooooooooo diverse and it has a huge number of fantastic melodies no other culture can have The Arabic music is too rich of melodies that differ totally from one Arabic country to another The population of all Arabic countries is about 400 millions people but they produced more fantastic melodies than China (more than 1.2 billion people), India (more than 1.3 billion people) or the US.
Brothe, you have to listen to najat alsagheira she has a lot of successful songs I propose for you (Yamsafer wahdak يامسافر وحدك) and (ana bashaq el ba7r انا بعشق البحر) you will not regret.
He is my first “black and white” era crush 😂.. I know Om Kalthom is a genius; but AbdulHaleem is like a soul whisperer, and as you said; his voice fabric is different and endearing.. he has a khaliji song that is so cool! Now according to my grandmother- and i dont know if it is true 🤣- the repeating of some parts over and over is a: cause there is music mastery in the notes which are unique to that specific song, and I believe it might be true cause nowadays from the first two seconds we recognize the song by the cords in them first two seconds! B: cause they only had like a song or two per year, and throwing large concert for only two songs for like 10 minutes is ridiculous, so they repeat to elongate the song and also for entrainment purposes - the same when you do when hear something and you go and repeat it cause its sooooo goooood- .. she said that most of the audience would learn the songs by heart at the end of the show!
One of the best arab artists and a marvelous voice as soft as velvet, in French you would say " une voix de velours"... a great loss for arab music when he passed away. Thank you for sharing your reaction. 🧡🙏🧡
My dad used to listen to him all the time when I was a kid. Now that I’m older I’m enjoying him so much and happy that I know most of his lyrics and can sing along.
The old version was by far much better, he was younger and healthier. By this time he was very sick and used to faint and have internal bleading during the rehearsals, he was dedicated to his art and a very brave and stubborn fighter. God bless his soul.
IjayReaction you are exceptional , special and I would realy thank you for the excellent work you do here. And ofcorse for you chosing Abed Al Halim too. Continue the great work. Ahwak اهواك
Mohamad Abdel Wahab once said, you would love to listen and watch Halim perform, while others you just like to listen to them.. I think he hit it right, I really like to watch him perform, he takes you to another place.. Btw, the translation of the lyrics were not really the best, there are a lot of mistakes, and wrong interpretations.. I always like the translator to give the exact meaning, and then the reader interpret the way he feels.. W laeek machghoul w chaghelni bik = I find you busy and making me busy along with you w enaya teegi fa eenek w kalamhom yebaa aalek w inta tedari = my eyes get in contact with yours, and there are words about you (in my eyes) but you try to hide that you understand these words..
If you really want to appreciate how good Abdel Halim Hafez actually was without understanding a single word of Arabic I suggest you listen to الوطن الاكبر. in this song had the best vocalists in Egypt at that time it was like an anthem and everybody got a couple of lines. you don't need to understand anything to notice the massive difference between Abdel Halim and the rest of the vocalists he outshines them so much it's not even close.
so to clarify the part you didn't understand as unfortunate the transition was a tad off @ 13:54 he wishes that he finds sympathy in the eyes of his lover! " I find you thinking of me, as you get me to be more occupied by you..& when our eyes meet you will read my eyes and see the love I have for you, but you try to hide it from me... I will take care of you, wake up in the middle of the night to your voice calling my name & to respond I will send you my soul to wake you up telling you to "wake up my lover you got my mind only occupied by you, walk up and taste the fire and the painful love I feel for you! ( he wish they can telepathic speak & feel each other but unfortunately she is not reciprocating the same feelings as its unrequited love ) btw Ahwak means "I adore you" or can be described as "I adore your love" " watmana low ansak " - I wish to forget you "we ansa rohy wayak " - And to forget my soul with you "we in daet tebah fadak" - And if I lose my soul to you it is worth it " law tensany" - If you forget me "we ansak" - I will forget you "we atareny bansa gafak" - But in reality, I only forget you neglect for me ( as I can never forget you) "we ashta le 3asaby ma3ak - " And I long for my suffering with you "we alah demo3y fakrak " - I find my tears remembering you "we arga3 tany" - So I return to loving you again "fe loak el donia tegeny" When I see you the world comes to me ( expiration that she is his world) "we redaha yeba redak"- The worlds approval is your approval of me "we sa3tha yahoon fe hawak tol hermany" - At that time it will be worth longing and waiting for your love that you deprived me of 💕
Abdul Halim was a great and true artist, all you hear is a great voice and performance but what you don't know is that he was sick, he lived his life waiting to die, you can see the sickness on his face and in his eyes, he had schistosomiasis and just the fact he was sick and can do all that he did is amazing by itself.

He has older siblings raised him up and the most one was his older sister ,she's just older than him by 2 yrs but she was like a mother to him
He also had to undergo sixty-one surgeries in his life, and this concert was less than a year before he had to leave us early. RIP king Halim
الله يرحمه ويغفر له 😢

Umm Kulthum did not say to be goddess.
But she was the best
He died way too young. He was incredible. Te best singer. This is a wonderful song Ahwak. Love it and loved him so much
I love the movie's version alot, thanks for reacting to this beautiful song
Thank you for reminding us Egyptians of this beautiful song. Thank you🥰🥰🥰😍
Thank you for accepting my request to make a video for this great song
Some Turkish people (as usual) claim this song is a Turkish song sung by a Selami Şahin

You need to react to more abdelhalim my man, he’s in my opinion the best singer in the history of the entire Arab world
This masterpiece was composed by the greatest composer ABDELWAHAB

Abdul halim was instrument player and a conductor before he was a singer, and some even say he was a secret composer but never took credit for it.!
There is only one Abdelhalim hafez in this world no one can be compared to him.

Great choice...you can also react to Hiba Tawaji "Rouh ya kamar" روح يا قمر
She has great vocals .. I hope you'll enjoy it
ahwak is a ( so sensitivity description to love )
at 10:46 when you said the music has changed. actually, the "Maqam" (the music scale) has been changed to another Maqam called "Sika Baladi or Hijaz Gareeb". it. it's rarely used due to it uncommon tonal spaces.
see at 20.41and relize how he end up with this Maqam and get back smoothly to "Kurd Maqam" which is the main Maqam of the song
hope you get my point.
the music made by the legend Mohammed Abdulwahab who you have to listen to his song "men gheer leh"

He was carrying flowers given to him by one of the audience
because he was in the stage of liver disease, and he was afraid of blood coming out of his mouth at any moment.
I think you would like to listen to his song named 'Sawwah'... Super!
