Born in '69, listened to him as a kid, but didn't get it until I was in the Army and his vibe helped settle turbulent times for me. He's got a mood that just hits me.
If you've never heard George's original version of "My Sweet Lord" from the "All Things Must Pass" album, it's worth hearing. It's probably my favorite song of his.
Originally written for the Edwin Hawkins Singers, who had a big hit with an old spiritual called Oh Happy Day. George wrote this basically using the same chords as Oh Happy Day, while producing an album for Billy Preston. He gave this song to Billy but early on, he decided to record it himself. It was the first solo Beatle number 1 and the top single of 1971. It was used in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
This concert brings a tear to my eyes when I see it. Dhani Harrison is standing to Eric Clapton which is historic because Dahnis mother is Patty Boyd who left George Harrison for Eric Clapton. "Layla" done by Clapton was written about Patty Boyd. Billy Preston was nicknamed "The Fifth Beatle" because of his work with the Beatles. Preston is an underrated great. He had so much of his own music and the collaborations with others that is just so good. The version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is just priceless with Dhani and Eric Clapton playing together and Paul McCartney on keyboards. For those of us that remember when the Beatles were together and George Harrisons solo work just takes us back in time to some of the greatest, JMO, music. There are artists who were there and those that were influenced by the Beatles and George's solo work. The list of artists is a veritable who's who of greats.
Glad to see this uploaded. This was a fantastic performance of a truly excellent song. Arranged as in the Harrison original but rendered even more powerful with everyone participating. Loved watching you loving it. 😀
One of my dad’s fave 70’s songs ! I just noticed too that anybody who’s somebody is up there in that guitar section. 1 Oh snap! They got Ringo Star up there, now I know there’s got to be more than a couple stars in that line up
I know I'm late to the party but we have the whole DVD. Every song in this concert is gorgeous. There is so much talent, you will love every minute of the whole concert.
I haven't seen a reaction to this epic one night only celebration of life at the Royal Albert Hall. Thank you. Everyone on that stage was a friend or family member of Harrison. The Quiet Beatle.
So true...there are many paths up the mountain to spiritual enlightenment...some are slower than others...but we will all end up at the same place in the end...we have no other choice....its our ultimate destiny We are all Gods children...and we all must eventually return to Him our Father, who created us...Namaste.
John Lennon proposed that Billy Preston join The Beatles, however Paul McCartney countered that it was already difficult enough reaching agreements with 4.
Possibly the best version of a really good song. It's amazing how much George's son looks and sounds like him. An all-star lineup. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr. Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne , Dhani Harrison all on acoustic guitar. Steve Winwood on the electric. I'm probably missing some too.
starting from the acoustic guitars from the left, You hve Jeff Lynne (ELO), Eric Clapton, and George Harrison's son. Oh the song is a George Harrison song.
When I tell people that I've heard this song since I was 2 years old. They think oh no big deal until they realize I was born in the seventies, and that i'm a Gen X 45 and not a Gen Z 25 year old. I don't age like most people. Lol 💓
That is actually true Billy Preston was supposed to be the fifth Beatle. John Lennon wanted him to be the fifth Beatle by Paul and George denied it because they was already breaking up as a group, so it never happened
As has probably been mentioned, George was sued by the publisher of The Chiffons for plagiarism, he lost, paid some money and wrote This Song about the whole ordeal
It’s weird you’d react to a tribute song not knowing the original, also “which one is Eric?” was painful, and you didn’t know Jeff Lynne either. Please react to George’s music; Clapton and Billy Preston and their collaborations with the Fab Four; E.L.O. and Traveling Wilburys and THEN come back to this, it’ll be more meaningful if you know who is who and how they were part of George’s life and music.
She's learning her own way, as most people now and in the future will learn music from the classic rock era. In fact, through this version of the song, she gets to learn about Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Billy Preston, Gary Brooker, Klaus Voormann, Katie Kissoon, Tess Niles, and all the other great musicians seen here (oh, and those guys Paul and Ringo). There's no "proper" order in which to learn about music and musicians.
This us not a new creation, the new generation have no idea about the classics created in the 70's - now its just rap crap and woke crap Anyway thune and melody was cleared at " the concert of Bangladesh " during the time of famine and freedom struggle from Pakistan Originel musicians were George Harrison vocals & guitar + Billy Preston on background vocals....check it out or the originel LP version of George Harrison " My sweet lord "

I am an old man Billy Preston was one of my favorite performers back in the late 60's and early 70's when I was in the Marine's.
My friend was a roadie for Billy Preston for years. He has so many great stories (Beatles, Little Richard, Mick Jagger etc...)

ICONIC song, and so many legends on the stage!
This was a major hit for George a double platinum album ❤

I have this entire concert on a CD and stored in my portable Hard Drive and i watch this concert every once in a while.
The electric slide guitar is being played by Marc Mann. From the 70's rock band E.L.O.
One of the very best concerts ever recorded! And the final song - "I'll See You In My Dreams" and sung by Joe Brown - is a tearjerker.
My Sweet George ❤❤❤🎸🎸🎸🎸
Great tribute glad they chose this beautiful song rip George😢❤
Dhani Harrison looks like an exact copy of his Dad!!! What an amazing band! So cool to see the living Beatles joining in in the music.

Olivia is Dahni 's mother
@@timhern3841 thanks for the clarification 👍
Thank you for singing my heart is warmed with a song and message that is extraordinary
This girl is so gorgeous
My sweet lord indeed
That guy with the 12 string acoustic guitar is going places. 😎😎
Glad to see this uploaded. This was a fantastic performance of a truly excellent song. Arranged as in the Harrison original but rendered even more powerful with everyone participating. Loved watching you loving it. 😀
You should watch George's "Concert for Bangladesh" (a food aid concert) then watch the "Concert for George", that was modeled after the former.
The concert is brilliant.
This was George’s first #1 hit on Billboard
Seeing Ringo on drums and Paul on piano (I think) is amazing. Feeling George there is joyful and seeing look alike son is amazing.
Thank you for your reaction!
My pleasure 😊
One of my dad’s fave 70’s songs ! I just noticed too that anybody who’s somebody is up there in that guitar section. 1
Oh snap! They got Ringo Star up there, now I know there’s got to be more than a couple stars in that line up
Paul is on keys back there, somewhere
In November of 2022 would have been the 20 the anniversary of George’s birthday and Billy died in 2006
I have listened to this for yrs...Beatles fan
Billy, George and John ❤😢
I know I'm late to the party but we have the whole DVD. Every song in this concert is gorgeous. There is so much talent, you will love every minute of the whole concert.

The Quiet Beatle.
1. Song from my young teen years
I've heard that song since I was 2 years old i am 45. Lol 💓 😆
George and Billy didn't care what name you had for God, his message is universal. Hallelujah...Hare Krishna...etc....love is love.
So true...there are many paths up the mountain to spiritual enlightenment...some are slower than others...but we will all end up at the same place in the end...we have no other choice....its our ultimate destiny We are all Gods children...and we all must eventually return to Him our Father, who created us...Namaste.
Eric Clapton is second guitar from the left - grey short-sleeved shirt and glasses
I'm just flabbergasted a Julliard grad has never heard this song!
One of the great songs of the early 1970s, written by George as a spiritual mantra.
Doesn't really matter. She has no idea who anyone is
Steve Winwood is in the crowd. Marc Mann played the slide guitar behind Dhani.
Oh and Ringo Starr is on the drums
George Harrison's version of his song is better than any other version easily 😊 thanks 😎
Written by GH on his solo album.
starting from the acoustic guitars from the left, You hve Jeff Lynne (ELO), Eric Clapton, and George Harrison's son. Oh the song is a George Harrison song.
You need to see Prince doing the solo on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" if you have not already.
Sometimes I wonder what rock people lived under not to know some of the songs that reactor react to.😂😂😂
You should check out the song that the backup singer on the far right did at the concert she's an awesome singer !!!
That delicious chord change is a an F# dim
I am disappointed you have never heard this song before. It came from the All Things Must Pass album. An excellent listen highly recommended!
Well, she's heard it now. Better late than never.
they used this song in the soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy
When I tell people that I've heard this song since I was 2 years old. They think oh no big deal until they realize I was born in the seventies, and that i'm a Gen X 45 and not a Gen Z 25 year old. I don't age like most people. Lol 💓
was like church music gospel jajajaja
He was said to be the fifth Beatle.
That is actually true Billy Preston was supposed to be the fifth Beatle. John Lennon wanted him to be the fifth Beatle by Paul and George denied it because they was already breaking up as a group, so it never happened
You must have living under a stone if you've never heard this song before
I am an opera singer 😉 Have you heard all of Carmen? All of La Boheme? Le Nozze di Figaro???
com on woman this is George Harrison
Check out Billy Preston and Michael McDonald especially when they did Marvin Gaye What's going on
Billy Preston was supposed to be the fifth Beatle. John wanted him in there, but Paul and George denied because they was already breaking up..
Tosh
Eric Clapton is playing the 12 string in the grey shirt.
Sounds a little like "He's So Fine"
Who are the three female singers?
George got into Indian and their religion and in his song he sings in Hinduism
The young guitarist beside Eric Clapton is a spitting image of George Harrison. I am guessing that's his son?
Yes, it's Dhani Harrison. I gasped when I first saw this. George used to say his own son looked more like him than he did!
As has probably been mentioned, George was sued by the publisher of The Chiffons for plagiarism, he lost, paid some money and wrote This Song about the whole ordeal
Maggie's...? What, a "name"!!😅, Fir- an opera- singer? P

It is a beautiful cover, but it's a sin to not listen to the original by George.
