Hey I have a question for you because I own a full frame R5C and a super 35 C70. I didn't realize how bad I was going to need a wide-angle lens until I got the C70. I do have a speed booster and a second generation 16 to 35 EF lens. Although the images rather soft and it becomes hard to match my other camera. I'm wondering if you ever found a solution to this wide-angle issue because I am in between just financing the 15 to 35 RF and maybe getting this lens to actually save my finances.. If anyone has any advice please drop it below and thank you very much
@@PizzlesTechTime if an f4 is enough for you, I’d take a look at the 14-35mm f/4 as that is a wonderful lens. If not, then the options in the wide and are, sadly, very limited at this time
@kaspergaram yeah I feel like I am a snob with lenses. I put myself in debt buying L series lenses. Usually the 2.8 or better. I purchased the 50 mm 1.8 STM from Canon and I was very unimpressed. So right now I am considering a third party EF or RF lens. I can also finance the RF 16 and 35 2.8 but I haven't watched any reviews on it yet. I've just seen people leave glowing reviews on it
@ i feel you 😂 I’d love to have only L-glass but there’s not enough money in the world for that. The RF35mm f/1.8 is my absolute favourite lens right now. I’ve done several trips abroad with just that one lens. Absolutely love it. Haven’t tried the f/1.4L though, so that would probably beat the 1.8. When it comes to the RF 16mm f/2.8, I’m not a fan, but there are really no other options
@kaspergaram yeah I saw a lot of people complaining about the new RF lenses and the whole imperfection thing. As long as the camera will correct it and it doesn't crop in on the image too much, in my book it's okay. Yes I do have one of their hybrid lenses I have the 24 to 105 2.8 z. I would love to have all of the hybrid lenses. The prime lenses do look amazing but it is really hard for me to keep one focal length.
@@PizzlesTechTime that’s common with modern lenses on all brands. They make them ”worse” and then correct digitally. Makes the lenses cheaper and smaller. Also, most lenses will show the stated focal length after the corrections, so for example optically the 16mm is around 14-15mm, and after the digital corrections it will show a 16mm area
I really don't like the way some Canon lenses move their front elements in and out as you turn them on or off. It's disconcerting when it happens as you put the lens cap on. I worry I'm damaging the lens if I'm putting any pressure on it while it's moving. It seems to be a feature of their STM lenses.
Thanks a lot ✌️ that’s a tough question, but I’ve had many bad experiences with some Samyang lenses, so I guess that would be my answer. I don’t have a specific lens in lind from them though
@@nallontrails i actually haven’t tried it for something like that. All my a-roll / talking head footage here on youtube is done with this lens so maybe that gives you an idea 😊
A bad lens is the one producing content that was rejected by your client. Did you have client rejections after using this lens? Canon RF 16 is not that bad. It only has bad corners while the center and side image quality is great. But! This lens is a bit wider than the normal 16mm focal length. In some tests it appeared to be even wider than 14mm counterparts! This means you have room for cropping to still enjoy quality 16 mm images. There are plenty of professional real estate and nature videos on TH-cam made with this lens which proves they are great. It is lightweight, cheap and with autofocus.
It's a 16mm after the lens corrections are applied, so yes, without lens corrections it is closer to a 14mm. That's how Canon and many other brands make lenses these days, because it's cheaper and they can keep the lenses smaller. I am also saying that the image quality is decent for a lens at that price point. I do really like what I can do with the lens, I just don't like the way the lens is operated. It doesn't fit my style of shooting, but obviously someone else might really like it.
Style is just another thing. I'm really missing the same but 20mm lense which seems to me as the greatest and most descriptive video focal length but having 16mm I can crop to have 20. I'm just about to buy Canon R system and see it as follows: Canon R8 - a lightweight camera that I can have with me in any situation, RF 35 f1.8 - image quality, low light, stabilization, macro, RF 16 - lightweight wide angle and 800mm for something nonstandard. Moonrises, wildlife, sunsets and much more for beautiful brolls. I have watched much about rf 16 and came to conclusion that the lense provides space for cropping which is the way for nice image quality. If you have video shot on RF 16 - I'd be happy to see. @@kaspergaram

As for the setup you are going for, it sounds very good and versatile. I absolutely love the RF 35mm. I've even traveled with just that one lens with me. It's by far my favourite focal length too, but that's just personal preference.
I'm thinking of getting this lens in prime day sale today... can't afford an L series. I want a wider lens and will hopefully get the chance to do some astrophotography on holiday if weather allows. but will also be good for general travelling.
I haven’t tried that lens but it’s an RF-S lens so it’s made for crop sensors and it wouldn’t really work with my R6ii anyways, so I can’t even test it out actually, sorry. You mean the 24mm f/1.4 mk II? I own it and I’ll tell ya, the 24mm is SHARP at 2.8 and stays sharp, a bit soft in the corners at f/1.4 but usable. I use the 16mm when filming magic up close at a table setting, capturing what the 24mm can’t, and I use the 24mm as a general purpose lens for my ad and content creation work. General purpose?
