  • How I Make a Feature Film in 1 Week! This video chronicles how I made multiple feature films in only one week. A lot of these were made in a very impromptu improv folk filmmaking style.

    Have you ever made a feature film in a short amount of time? Have you seen any of these films that I've made. What's your thoughts on making a film really fast? Comment and leave a like!

      Your 12 film project has been torn apart by anybody that isn't a fanboy. Reviews on IMDb reflect that. Also LB if you take away anybody whose last name isn't Lotz. Yourself included because you always give yourself a 5 or 10 depending on the platform and the max score. Back on topic, I'd say more than a week is far more beneficial. More than a month too.

      My last film focused around this. We gave ourselves a 7 day timeframe, 7k budget and less than 7people in the primary cast and crew. I just released it for free this week on our page th-cam.com/video/eG2DtwKIt_Y/w-d-xo.html Happy to have stumbled on your page, this is great advice for filmmakers that are standing in their own way.

    OMG! TH-cam recommended this video and like a sign from the universe...because I've been procrastinating on making my films, features...YOU just gave confirmation and the inspiration I needed to get started and make my films. A feature film in 3 HOURS!!!! WOW my guy!!! I keep telling people, it's all possible and I keep hearing no it cannot be done, blah blah, but your films look well acted, scripted and shot. Well done. I'll be following your work. Thank you for sharing.

    It's taken me almost a year to do a short film, due to having to have a day job and my actor also needing to work. Trying to find a suitable person to operate the camera was also tricky, and because I did the acting as well, I couldn't really do camera, as well. Next time, I'll just concentrate on camera and directing. But it's definitely important to just go and create short films, they're probably the best way to learn about film making in the real world.

    You're an inspiration mate! I recently made my feature for under a $1000 and under a 100 hours of my own time! After watching your movies I had to go out and try it. Listen to Dan you can do it.

    This video was a blessing. I'm new to film and very much no budget and this gave me some great insights as to how to get the most out of what I have available. Thanks!

    3:34 I have a script I wrote spending time with the in-laws. It did balloon, though.

    Never made a feature by myself, only shortfilms, even 1 in a couple of hours but nothing I can brag about. That's why watching your channel is a great inspiration.
    By the way, is it me or the audio is getting lower and lower? Maybe I'm old, I dunno, greets from Mexico.

    Great video! Thanks for sharing! It helps to hear that being a perfectionist doesn’t always mean better results. Trying to focus on getting stuff done this year

      Glad you enjoyed the video and while I think I'm a perfectionist I've learned to let go a bit and its helped me immensely.

    I obviously took part in the Oscar challenge this past year, though I don't know if my experiment worked. I wanted my feature to actually feel like a FEATURE, not just a longer short film, so I tried to give it lots of dialogue and ideas. But that ended up making it more like an episode of TV :/ I also realized that my kind of "ideological" filmmaking needs time for me to process the ideas, since a lot of moments felt very reactionary since I wasn't able to think deeply about them in time for the deadline.
    Other than that, I think the shortest time I made a feature (from first shot to final export) was 40 days for Akerman Ambriance, especially since 8 of those days I was in a mental hospital. Actually, by the time that happened, I already had most of the movie shot, but I was too exhausted from that incarceration experience that I couldn't emotionally handle the ending I wanted, where with a soundtrack of the melodramatic Jewel track "Foolish Games", the dogs are brought to a murky creek, and then in a long take are brought into the pool as I carry my camera on a surfboard and I watch the water around me get polluted (especially since my mom was already furious at me for the medical bills, and I couldn't handle her response if I ended up having my phone fall into the water). Instead, a friend of mine sent me a painting they made, I tried to compost it into the final image of a spinning Coke bottle, I did one more export, and she said that the movie was perfect as it was.
    (I guess the first and third episode of my docuseries were completed in two days and three weeks respectively, but I don't really consider those to be features)
    A friend was scolding me the other day about how I don't spend enough time on my movies, and I never know how to handle that criticism. I'm trying to do the opposite with my current film Squish 2 (which I've been shooting for 6 months and don't even have a rough cut), but I worry that that will just lead me to never being able to turn it into anything :(

      Take as much or as little time as you need to get it right despite anyone's critiques.

    I get it but making a full length feature film somebody actually enjoys and wants to watch shouldn't be a race....but who knows maybe you are the next auteur director whos going to have a huge hit?

    • @The5DollarFilmSchool
      @The5DollarFilmSchool  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the question is perhaps this methodology will work for some creatives and not others. I think short turn around and quick features promotes high volume and repetition that could help some filmmakers improve greatly and I know it’s helped me immensely.

    rubbish. he doesn't tell you what cameras to use or what to put it all together with or make the lighting cimenagraphic or anything.

    • @The5DollarFilmSchool
      @The5DollarFilmSchool  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Cameras used which I go into in many of my other videos (Sony a7III) I use a canon 35mm 2.0 lens, the lighting was done primarily naturally with only in room lights augmenting the scene. Before you assume someone is rubbish consider just asking what you'd want to know. I'm quite an open book when it comes to filmmaking and I will help anyone out if they have a reasonable question.
