That intro is the best thing I have seen in a while. and I'm so glad this review is out, your basically the only person I trust for my quality reviews.
I feel that these toys could've been awesome but certain circumstances really pulled it back. I feel going for a 360 degree lifter in DUCK and an undercutter in RotatoR wasn't the best choice considering the Covid 19 situation as both weapon types are very hard to get right, that and them seemingly having to stick to a yearly deadline seems to have harmed the product. I think they are both really good toys still but they seem flawed, I am not a business man nor do I know anything about making Antweight's but I fetch it would've been a better decision to have made simpler robots this year, something like Hypershock and Hydra as they've nailed how to make both vertical spinner and flippers, and pushed these back till the Covid situation had ended so they could spend more time working on them and refining how to do unundercutter's and 360 degree lifters, either that or they delay the toy. Either way though, giving the circumstances, I still think Hexbug did a fantastic job and I can tell a lot of effort went into them.
soooo glad you made the video everyone else is saying these are great but i didnt think they were as good and im glad you were honest and said what we were all thinking awesome review 🙌
I did a bit of looking at duck and I noticed that it could be possible to make it rotate a full 360 degrees if you sanded down and removed the notches that block part of the arm. Wouldn’t fix its lifter issues but it could make it more realistic if it worked out.
Gluing the slip gear might fix the lifter, once the nubs were gone, The slip gear is there so the gears don't get stripped on the arm stoppers on the bottom. Remove the nubs and make the gear solid seems like it would become a full lifter. Just from a quick look, its what I noticed. The problem might be if you get the arm stuck the gears might strip
@@KhaoticRobotics ya you dont gain much there might be a 10% gain from gluing the gears. You basically can flip everyone, but bronco and bite force. Which you still can but it's hard. You have to go from the side and push and lift at the same time.

How about Swamp Thing and Chronic. I know probably 98 or 99% of Battlebots fans do not know these robots, but they fought in 2015 as a demo fight, which is a fight where they prep the camera angels and get ready for the next season of Battlebots. I think Swamp Thing competed at Battlebots Proving Grounds with a new design recently, but Chronic has never appeared again. I just think it would be hilarious if they made those two next and everyone was confused.
I do agree with you Stephen, they do look like they've been rushed and I think HEXBUG could've done better if they took their time. Great review. Robots I'd like to see them make are SawBlaze, Hydra, Quantum and RailGun Max.
I've heard you can take apart Duck and cut off the blockers on the arma that prevent it from going the full 360. Also, once I get a *functioning* 3D printer, I plan to make the alternate bars and armor configurations for Rotator (the anti-vert armor will not be possible to replicate, but using the anti-horizontal armor upside down can work similar to Huntsman from King of Bots).
@@voxhumana-qt4ki It's just a little bit of plastic at the base of the arm that hits a ridge in order to prevent Duck from doing the full 360. I think the point of it is so that Duck's lifter doesn't go to far down, but that happens anyway.
I have rotator and duck and my rotator spins extremely fast I wonder why yours doesnt.🤔 With duck I changed the batteries and the lifter was a lot stronger and I won battles with duck too. 👍
Hi we had issues with our rotator, it made gear grinding sounds specifically on the weapon and for whatever reason that made it drive horribly. After checking the internals out, I didn’t see any damage anywhere. So I I used some very light household oil/grease on all the gears and it made rotator the BEST bot out of all the Rivals. Drives perfectly and the weapon is fast and powerful! I’m tempted to lubricate all the gearing in each bot after the difference this made on rotator.
Wish I had seen this before I ordered the set, I honestly thought it was broken when I couldn’t get it to lift and it made that noise. Looks like that pair of gears could be glued together to prevent them slipping or a stiffer spring installed to make them stay together with more force, but I think that the bigger problem is that little motor just doesn’t have the torque to lift an opponent. If anyone comes up with a fix for Duck! let me know, would love this set if Duck could actually lift/flip opponents
Ok here is what I think. So you can mod DUCK! so it can lift with ease, and rotator is one of my favorite bots, but the drive is key to the bot. Besides that these look amazing and rotator looks powerful. Anyways a good but not great set, even with 2 of my favorites.
Hi Stephen, another great video! I 100% agree with everything you said especially with Duck! possibly being built upside down. That made me laugh. I do have a question about the remotes however. Because this pack’s remote has 2 buttons for the weapons, do you think future toys are now going to incorporate the 2 button design (such as whiplash’s lifter spinner thing or quantum’s crusher) but the caveat being the older toys are now “leff behind” and incapable of sharing the 2 button remote with the future toys?
I hope so, Hexbug are always pushing for new innovative ideas and I think whatever has happened here has put them on the backfoot a bit. I'm hoping the Rotator set up is the exception not the rule. Would love to see dual weapon controls in future, would be a very cool idea for toys that are already so advanced.
I wonder how strong the lifter for duck woul be if they gave it a direct drive.. Or something similar to s1 witch doctor.. And have the lifter also be powered by 1 motor on each end
FYI the top disk on Rotator can be knocked off during a battle. My girlfriend and I were playing and she took the top disk straight off with Witch Doctor V2. I was super surprised it happened given that they're clipped on pretty tightly, but man it looked awesome!

I wonder if maybe the marketing change for Junk Bots affected how the toys were produced? We were originally supposed to get Whiplash this year and given how Junk Bots were new, they probably spent more focus there.
The wheels for my rotator could barely touch the ground! Rotator is the worst performing hex bug I have. I contacted hexbug and they sent me a fixed rotator by cutting down the little nub cylinder, now my rotator can finally move! Now more people who get rotator can see what I mean.
If you head over to Duck’s TH-cam channel they have. an awesome fix for Duck's lifter. It's a little fiddley but my duck can now lift and even carry all the other Hexbug BattleBots.
My old bio hazard and diesector were the same. They were fun to play with but neither one really had a useful weapon. Biohazard arm wasn't strong enough to lift anything and diesectors jaws did clamp but it wasn't like you could take the opponent to the hazards. The look great and are fun to play with if you like bum rushing all the time with no weapons.
As good as these are, I think I’ll stick with just making robots with LEGOs. Even if the colors don’t match up if you don’t have the pieces, it can be fun to try to recreate some robots or make your own inspired by robots that HexBug hasn’t made yet.
Got my hands on duck, does anyone else think that if they glued the clutch gear and got rid of the 2 nubs on the bottom it would be a full lifter and be able to spin 360 degree's? I believe the clutch is there so kids don't strip the gears on the little nubs. And the nubs are only there so the blade resets and doesn't go to far and lift the front up, ease of operation for kids. Any experts think the same thing?
@@chefboiarby304 I also think the blockers are there because its only front wheel drive. Its the only reason without the blockers it would be to hard to drive for kids. If it was 4 wheel drive there would be no blockers cause you could still drive it. And the clutch on the lifter if there just to stop kids front stripping the gears on the blockers. I'm planning on gluing the gear connected to the spring and removing the blockers here soon. When i get some time.
Did you try gluing that yet? I got this set not knowing that Duck couldn’t lift another bot, I just assumed if they were going to make a lifter bot it was going to be able to lift, lol. Another option would be a stiffer spring to not allow the gears to separate, but even so I don’t think that little motor has the torque to lift an opponent
@@nodsib yes I glued the gear and it does help, the issue with duck is the slop in the gears. Even if you put more volts through the bot with a higher powered batteries the gears start to slip on themselves, not stripping just to much slop. I have 2 ducks one nodded and one not. The nodded duck can flip people but it takes skill like the old bot biohazard. You have to lift and push and keep lifting.
@@travispenney290 Cool, good to know, I was wondering about adding a very light spring somehow to the lifter arm on the side that isn't driven by the motor so that there is always a very small amount of upwards tension, not enough to lift it on its own, but just enough to assist the motor slightly when going in the up direction
Does anyone know if it’s possible to have 4 bots controlled by a each of their own remote? I tried it out and seems like the remotes that are different channels seem to control the same bot still
IMHO the flaws in DUCK! make it fun to play with. You can lift an opponent if you push them into a wall and lift at the right time. If the plow lifts the front tires, learning to adjust for that takes some skill. It’s zippy and fun to drive. Overall, in DUCK!’s defense, learning to win matches with it is more fun than just turning on a spinner and pointing the bot forward.
Well of course you're defending it Hal, every time one of these is bought you're getting a bit of money in the bank! 😆 If they made a little Push to Exit toy with a crap flipper that can't drive properly, I'd be singing it's praises from the rooftops as long as the royalities are coming in! 😅😅
I agree. People are acting like the real Duck! is some powerhouse flipper. It isn't. The toy has enough power to lift the front wheels up, if you time your drive, you can push the opponent wherever you like. Takes a bit of skill and practice, but it is actually one of my favourites due to the technique required.
