Willie’s version of the song of outlaws going to other planets… imho.. or; their outlaw spirits live for the moment and move on to other adventures or quietly find a hideout with their reckless woman, silver stallion and retire as old folks.

RIP Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings I’m not even that big of a country music fan but these four highwaymen sure are great musicians and I love listening to their music. No matter what music community you may come from, there is absolutely NO denying that Cash, Nelson, Kristofferson, and Jennings were (and still are) legends that live on and will live on! They were in deed a unique form of country music, even in the realm of their sub-genre known as “outlaw country.”
Sure? Reggie Young was one of four guitar players on the Highwayman 2 album. And he played this on their recorded live show in 1990, and it sounds almost identical as this.
These men were sent from God to heal our hearts. I live with chronic debilitating Illness but when I listened to these men sing I forget my troubles. Thank you God for these beautiful men❤❤❤❤
I was watching Hee-Haw, when the Highwaymen sang; “Highwayman” before Hee-Haw was canceled.. i froze and the song itself reminded me we might have lived in different times and places.. Marty Robbins’ “El Paso City” hit me the same way. I feel my wife isn’t on this planet at this time juncture and I’m a romantic fool looking for her.. I listened to it today because it reminds me of my brother who looked like Kris Kristofferson, road on cattle roundups (and was so disappointed that the round ups were done on motorcycle, not on horseback), our father was Jack can’t get away from the lyrics on this one. Miss him everyday.

Stone country! And that guitar work is hypnotic. When Willie sings, "I'm gonna chase the sky forever," then it's time to close shop and go home or head out for a drink.
As a Texan now living in the valleys of Southern Colorado, that particular line resonates with me more than any other in the song. There are so few places left where the sky is as open as it was 300 years ago.
'Ride like the one eyed jack of diamonds with the devil close behind'. Anyone else ever feel like that sometimes? Classic line and song writing performed by a crew of the best of the best.

Now that I live in Arizona, I go by where they filmed this often on the weekends. It seems the video is about carrying on traditions and keeping the past alive, and how we are still fully able to enjoy what made the wild west great.
