Speaking about the Lolita topic… I HAVE A LOT to say about it, since it could be ( only a theory ) that Lana really experienced a lot of those things and romanticized it in her songs in a certain way, because “your view is kind of disturbed when you are the victim”. That could collide with her teacher Gene Campbell, because her unreleased song „Prom Song ( gone wrong )“ was allegedly written about him… I think the internet misinterpreted a lot of her „more direct“ Lolita references tho - and just made it their own thing/twisted her words…

people often say victims of sexual abuse often end up hypersexual or end up being drawn to toxic relationships. lana went through so much, its so annoying to see people spit on her for singing about her pain

Lana is literally the QUEEN of romanticizing her life

Finally, a video on just Lana's life and not heavy on personal opinions!!! Practically internet stalked her for years. I'm glad you were thorough.

thanks so much! some fans did not see it that way 😅. i love her music, but all these celebs are human, so of course there will be areas of controversy. glad you get me lol ❤

@LauraLeeJ well I did commet half way through. And I'll admit you actually had a lot of opinions about lana in the second half .Some I agree with some I don't. But I actually think you still have a good understanding of what she's doing with her music. Also you did get her life facts which is what matters. I definitely agree that lana is not good at defending herself online and totally stuck her foot in her mouth . However, I feel a little different about all the feelings of other cultures in her videos. I'm not black or Latina so like you said I can't speak if I'm offended. I am Native American and wasn't exactly hung up on the headdress. Her friend made her that headress. It's true most tribes don't wear them, and when they do it's the highest honor or a great battle. However, as a Native I personally wasn't offended. Anyway, I still enjoyed what you had to say, and I didn't feel like it was lana attack. like most videos on her.

@LauraLeeJ also fans be wild , you should definitely be able to criticize everyone. I also do see that Lana doesn't take criticism well , she's so spicy about it lol.

Latino here. Chola Lana from Paradise is absolutely one of my all time favorite eras of hers. She appreciates and admires our culture and we love it. When she performed in Mexico the crowd was chanting “LANA, SISTER YOU ARE MEXICAN NOW”.

Don't know anything about Lana, just got interested in one song and your video popped up in my feed. After listening to her life's arc, one thing that stands out to me as a novice bystander is that Lana seems to have gotten consistently bad PR advice all her life. She's doing everything right, but saying everything wrong.

I love how everyone hates that lana was born Upper middle class, yet has no idea that Taylor Swifts dad invested so much more money then Lana's dad in her career. No hate to Taylor but double standards for sure.

    her 2014 Coachella performance,
her 2016 stargirl interlude song with the Weeknd,
Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass audiobook was released before the actual physical book

The amount of petty and unfair criticism Lana del Rey had endured has been a disgrace, her past is not really our business so why did people constantly when she became famous drudge up some of her past problems or indiscretions let's say? And she wasn't saying anything bad about fellow artists who are women of colour, they just happened to be very successful women of colour who were not being criticised for some similar lyrics in their songs. Jeez one of the nicest individuals on the planet has suffered alot of hate in the last 12 years or so.

i don´t think having a persona is being fake. there are no fake personas, it's just another side of the "real" person. I reject the tought of being fake, because we all are in some point. Personality its a mask, so its kind of a natural persona.

ok, im really sick of people saying "cultural appropiation". we are in a society where all cultures are ensamble, we re in a globalized world, so it doesn't exist anymore something like an aislated culture. we are feeded multiple cultures all the time, and we all know where some things come (like the penacho that uses Lana in the Ride video), we all know she didn't invented it, but she didn't said it was hers. Culture apreciation it's the right term i think. But you eat chew so you vomit over others the thing that you eated vomited. Nowadays there´s a lack of critical thinking, you guys only repeat. Thts why Lana it's so hated, because she thinks, and says it. But other people doesn't want to hear real thoughts that are different from what they hear in all places taken by the media. (brainwash thinking)

At the 26.00 mark you make a good point. As someone raised poor with single mother and an absent alcoholic father it sometimes irks me to see middle class people complain about hardship or even "daddy issues". So I guess I observe that. In Lana's case she was clearly fed and clothed and her family had quite a bit of money and her father loved her and still does, yet her persona is sort of miserable and a bit spoiled. Also, anyone creative born Gen X is aleady very familiar and inspired by people like Jim Morrison, Billie Holiday, Marilyn, Marlon Brando and Elvis and have been for decades, so I'm curious why young people associate these people with Lana who is so recent.

All of that haters gossip is dramatic and childish…the critics get off on drama. Also people Change with time, as well as with heartbreak, etc; And when she started preforming and put her first record, Lizzy Grant being her name, is who she was….yes she changed her name, which I personally love and think it sounds better for her music. And also, we don’t actually know if she always had different way of singing. Taylor went from country singer, to now…I’m a artist and I don’t draw one type of way….over the years, my art has changed, either cuz I was using drugs, hurt or heartbroken.

The 7 year on again off again man. I think it may be me. My parents own a stereo dealership “The Listening Room”. I’m married to listening to music selling high performance audio products. In the song “White Dress”. This was a stereo conference called PARA. I was 12 and developed the name Lana Del Rey based on some stuff I was writing about Marina Del Rey that someone famous drowned in. Our stereo company is closely associated with the automotive industry and we’re close to a car dealership, so we said the Ford Del Rey car because auto guys like that.

Thank You for this time line video! Covered a ton of info I had no idea about. Being a relatively new fan since Chemtrails I've heard bits and pieces and you helped tie everything together.
The one thing that surprised me the most was her anti Trump stance considering her "Americana" persona/ references.
Funny thing is I heard Chemtrails over the CC and Money Power Glory as bumper music on InfoWars( not exactly a left leaning news/talk show - HA). Chemtrails blew me away, got the CD, rest was history.
So she's got a lot of fans on both sides of the Political aisle whether she realizes it or not.
Anyways saw her at Fenway Park (for the first time) this past Thursday, considering the weather mess/ rain delay etc it was an incredible show!
We will definitely see LDR again next time she plays Boston/ New England area.

We don't deserve lana she's simple, honest, straight forward and not a hypocrite like lot of other artists she's real af and the world is not ready for that level of realism. Of course you run the show babe but shaming lana is not cool at all. Anyways thank you for the video great 👍 research work.

Shall we dance around your basic arithmetic struggles, as in 5 letters in grape, as opposed to the four,,🙂Mind, have to say, this is really good. I mean really good. It's for people who think and ask questions. I love Lana's honesty, and how she defends her lyrics. People assume 'the given', which will only lead to misunderstanding and frustration, when attempting to unlock the hidden depths of her lyrics,
