I love how you could tell Murtagh knew it was Jamie when he started screaming at him, before even turning around. He remembered Jamie's voice. Good acting of shock and disbelief.
I cried not gonna lie Murtagh and Jamie are a great partnership and the fact Murtagh knows the whole story about Claire
And Brianna too. "What took ya so long, lass?"
when Jamie tells him about Claire, coming back to him, I lose it!

I cried too ! In fact, I cried my way through all 5 seasons! But this is definitely one of my favorite scenes!
Yes I wish his character was like this in the books but he was not big part in the books
I am so glad they kept Murtagh alive so happy he's back.
Perhaps this was the decision of Ronald D. Moore so that he can have the character go in a different direction than dying in the book series. Right?

When Jamie tells Murtagh he has so much to tell him, it's at that moment you see he's relieved that he has someone trustworthy in his life again, someone that he could go to for male support.
Good point. Jamie has no one else he can talk freely about he and Claire. Murtagh was missed! My wife and I just watched this episode.
When Murtaugh says that he wants to hear *"every word,"* you know he means it, from the bottom of his heart. Finding that kind of trustworthyness, and love from another person, is something special.

Yes I agree Jamie was so happy and releived to find that Murtagh was alive. It was so funny when Jamie went into his shop all hot headed about young Ian being charged 21 shillings to fix the bit and flys into Murtagh before he knows who it is. It took him a minute to realize it was Murtagh.
I wish we could have seen Murtagh’s reaction to hearing that Jamie actually married Laoghaire! He had been so adamant to Claire that Laoghaire was not a fit match for Jamie and he was so loyal to Claire that he must have been so shocked and disappointed!
I may seem a little weird to say, but I always thought that Murtagh was kinda sexy in his own way ! Lol

I'm right there with you! To raise Jamie because of his love for Ellen and never leave his side - he's a man's man, full of conviction, dedication, courage and love. When he laid Sandringham's head at Claire's feet, I was a goner.

Not weird at all! Murtagh is the epitome of a true Highlander...tall, tough, always ready for a good fight, and loyal to a fault. He's high on my list of favorite Scots.

“I want to hear every word”. What always struck me was Murtagh’s love & 100% loyalty to Jamie & this reunion further exemplifies that fact. I have watched this scene dozens of times, absolutely love the acting & the facial expressions by both actors!! 👌🏻👌🏻

One of my absolute favorite reunions. The way Murtagh stops, frozen, at Jamie's voice and then slowly turns around. The genuine tears in the men's eyes when they see each other. Love their Bromance/Father-son type of relationship.
One of my favorite lines is “Uncle, ya ken this old coot”
Let's all give a big round of applause to Jamie for not fainting this time!
I literally cheered when Murtagh showed up. It's so fantastic that he's still part of the story.

So happy to see Murtagh (Duncan LaCroix) returned to the show. Those expressive eyebrows were missed, especially enjoyed his side eye to Ian "who you calling an old coot"! The reunion was done so well by both Duncan and Sam, we were all in tears.
To be perfectly honest with you, I started watching outlander because it was a show set in 18th century Scotland and I preferred it when it was like that. It really makes me miss those scenes that depicted Highland culture so clearly and vividly, like the gathering in castle Leoch or when they were on the road collecting rents. It was so interesting to see such an old way of life survive for so long, in a changing Britain; but since this show is based on history, most of the things I started watching it for left the show when the battle of Culloden happened. The change makes sense, I suppose, but I still miss the old Scottish Outlander.

They will go back in the next season if they keep up with their current timeframe. I think it’s book 7 when they go back for a visit to see Ian and Jenny and also Marsalis sister has an issue with Laoghaire that Jamie has to fix.
Also i think they film in Scotland still. But i miss the highlands too. And appreciate all the sets! I liked France a lot and so many others didn’t but also didn’t really care for the Caribbean’s as i felt they were always running around n couldn’t catch a break lol. And also I’m American so enjoy watching my countries history bc i love history in general
Same. Like... The change is fine and all, but I really enjoyed Scotland and even France. Maybe it's just my being American and having been exposed to plenty of similar stories set in the colonies, but it feels overdone and old. It lacks the same wildness that the first two seasons had, and the third as well though not as much. I don't know. I only got into the fandom last week and I'm only a few episodes into season four, so maybe there's something I'm missing? It's just become less exciting.
I've been researching Scottish history in America from the years 1651 when the first SPOWs were sent right through about 100 years ago. I doubt many know how much the Scottish influenced the country we have today. We are taught about "Patriots" and not that many of those men were Scottish. They didn't even call them patriots at that time. I was hoping they would go to New Brunswick but going back to Scotland will be good too
Welcome Murtagh! It's a joy to have this character back in Outlander! Duncan Lacroix is an excellent actor! This is great for the show! I hope the character doesn't change much and that he remains Jamie's faithful & allied godfather! The scene of Jamie and Murtagh in this episode was unforgettable and wonderful, one of the best of this season, so far!
Murtagh!! He is my idol, bold, courageous, true, with strong convictions. With that Scottish aesthetic that makes him the most attractive man on the planet!

Is it weird that I was far more emotional during this reunion than anyone else's? I mean more than Jamie and Claire's reunion because I knew that one was coming. My heart was in my throat, I literally squealed out loud, and I almost cried when I saw this scene. I love love love Murtagh and seeing him return is my favorite thing ever. 😭
My close second favorite is Jamie's reunion with Lord John in Jamaica. The look on Lord John's face when he saw Jamie will forever make my heart feel all the things. 😭

I cried laughing when they went into the pub for a drink, and young Ian told Jamie, he couldn't buy the drinks because Murtagh had all their money......it was priceless.....

Murtagh and Jamie are great. I love Murtagh and Jamie when they are together. This is my favorite scene, Jamie was so mad about the cost and goes in there ready to strangle him., love this scene.
