Ways to make ice fishing sound even more fun: you pound a hole, stick a big tip in to find out what’s inside, then finally full send it sometimes as deep as you can go

It happened
Catfish are not hunters or scavengers in the winter as they are in the summer. They are a warm water species. Winter catfishing is difficult, You have to find them and practically drop the bait in front of them, they won't go to you, even then it's not guaranteed they'll bite. They can mainly be found in the deepest part of the lake during winter season and they are resting on the bottom, not actively swimming the lake. Good luck.

Practice night shooting using your choice of items to use as a target but could be as simple as just hot water because night shooting is harder to do until you get comfortable with it

Crazy vid suggestion. Get an old car to drag out on the pond and take votes/bets on when the melt happens and the car goes under. Would make some good structure, plus fun anticipation.
Yup as long as there was no oils left in any part of the car because if there was even a small bit of oil left it would kill all this fish in the pond along with everything else that survives off the pond
Eleanor Fleming Oh, yeah, for sure. I was envisioning a completely stripped frame and body only. Plus, it would need to be on the lighter side given ice thickness. But I agree. Good point. That was running through my mind during first comment.
Yup a light completely stripped car body might work but you generally need 8-12” of good clear ice to support a small car and 12-16” of good clear ice to support a bigger car or a truck

You could also take the 6 wheel tank out on the ice. So if it breaks it won’t sink
Your most likely to catch a catfish in the middle of the day in the winter cause the water is warmer and they stay deep where the water is warm and they mainly stay in one spot and for more tips you could probaly watch CATFISH AND CARP the TH-cam channel

Hotdogs soaked in cherry koolaid and garlic. Let it soak overnight in a baggie. It helps with fishing when it's cold, it puts out more scent for the cats. cut it up into sections and put a piece on a hook. TRUST!

Catfish are dormant during the winter, but they do move around but just not a lot, they usually hide in the mud.
Usually jigging for catfish works. Try a jiging spoon tipped with a minnow. Also you should go to a lake with enough ice for a car and go out with the cop car.

Catfish get very lazy in the winter. They group up, and stick to the bottom. Chances are you have channel catfish in your pond, so you’ll need to set out multiple lines in groups, all over your pond. Use stink bait as well it works very well for channels and blues.
Btw just an idea buy moose or deer carcus and it works I’ll tell you that you will definitely see a mountain lion on cam

Try to get a thing of chicken liver mix in a little garlic powder and let sit in room temperature for a day. Also hotdog chunks are great too. 3" chunks or so

Use live minnows, hard jigs at different depths, bass love hard movement in the winter plus minnows will make a big difference on the tip ups
