The professional sounds like a 50’s tele. A little more scooped and snappy. Probably a lot to do with the pickups (but the body material is most likely playing a part in that too.) The special on the other hand sounds more full in the mid range and thus more like a 60’s model. Again probably effected by the pickups mostly but that body wood is also gonna thicken it some. For me- I prefer the 50’s tele sound. I feel like a tele is supposed to snap like that.😎🤙
What an awesome store you guys have. James, thanks for letting me trade that Fender Elite Telecaster. I still plan on coming by to show you the G-Bender on my American Special Telecaster. Thanks for treating me like a rock star!
Love em both. The Special has more mid-range and less snap. The Pro's V-Mod neck pup is very Strat-like, which is what I really like. Overall, the Pro is more of a bell chime to it. I prefer the Pro.
I'm trying to decide between the American Special, American professional, and the soon to be impossible to find American standard Telecaster. I can only find the American professional on the stores around my area, so side by side comparisons will not be possible for me, and I'll have to buy online. Can you please offer your thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.
Good afternoon! They are entirely different but the good news is they are both excellent. The Standard has a smaller neck than the pros. The pros have a more rounded neck (thicker) but not at all too large. The pros are a bit "hotter" sounding while the standards have a very warm and milky sound. If you would like some help hearing them side by side we can do a quick video for you and shoot you over the differences on the fly. And if you can let me know where you are located we can maybe help you track down a spot where you could go in and try the guitars. Talk with you soon! Sincerely, Baxter
I found mine kinda weak. After all the demos I watch compering it with other teles confirmed it. I love the neck and the lightweight body though. I hope pickups change fix the problem.
I was able to find a place with the old model, so I AB’d them. The old tele with the Texas Specials sounded better. Pretty disappointing they jacked the price and gave us these new pickups.

I’ve an Am Special in Sherwood with rosewood. That blonde Am Special model is so nice I think it would make an excellent companion!

I just bought the American special but I can quickly see myself switching the pickups out.
We've had a few folks do that, but then some found just a little heavier string really brings out the bite in them.
Casino Guitars I might try out the heavier string gauge.
Why.

Texas Specials weak? 😅
Any other Tele pickup is 'weaker' in comparison.
I hated my pro tele 2017 when i got it home with 9's. Stripped it bare and restrung with 10's and it was moon river 😍
We often do that as well! We love the way 10's play on a Fender (and proper Moon River ref...we dig)
I put D’addario 10’s with a wound G on my AmPro, it plays, and sounds great.
Different woods , Alder on Special Ash on Pro. Not a good comparition. Still I preffer the Am Special.

Nice to see my diagnosis of the guy on the left (as you look) is correct given this is an older video. Has he been treated for ADHD?
Did you say you were in Lexington KY? Or did I hear wrong
Some other killer shops like Willcuts is in Lexington. Check them out if you get a chance!

Please, is the 2017 body in Nitro or Poly finish ?
That would be a gloss Polyurethane finish.

Hey Rick, The tele is a Masterbuilt by Todd Krause, a 1959 build with Abby Pickups. She is awesome!
Got to love smelling ripe!
