Great demo of a fantastic instrument. I have a 2017 sunburst, customised with the neck pick up which has been replaced with a switchable humbucker that gives you single coil or full humbucker linked to the three-way switch as usual. The range of sounds is just amazing when playing through my Vox amp.
I have an American special in lake placid blue. After trying both this, the Mexican standard and American standard, the special was a clear winner for me. It has a great punch to every note, especially the neck pickup.
Great guitars. I recently acquired one from 2018 in Sherwood Green with rosewood. I love the Texas Specials and the jumbo frets. I’d say to anyone, buy one of these, it will last forever. Forget buying Squiers and wasting money modifying them, go for the best, it will make you better.
I've had this model for 8 years now & she's been my main girl! I am probably on the neck pickup 90% of the time...I just love the voicing of that neck pickup.
Great demo, and great playing. I"m thinking of buying a used Special Tele. How is the overall build quality. Do you notice a difference between The American Special and Player models made in Mexico?
@@GuitarEmerge I feel that it is a modern expression of a '50s guitar. Having said that, it's really quite a "partscaster" ;) The body is 50s, the neck is 60s (with the addition of jumbo frets - which people should not worry about as they really are a huge improvement) and the headstock is 70s. However, I feel it's "50s" in it's simplicity. For me, it ticks all the boxes re what a real Tele should be :)
Liked your video. It was a good review and you show a real passion while doing it. As a constructive criticism the only thing you are lacking is in the audio department. Need a good mic or something. But really enjoyed the video.
Hey thanks for the feedback, u r the second person telling me that. Gonna invest in one soon!! In my latest video gretsch vs dues I actually tried using a lav mic but my video app didn't activate the lav mic.. Will get the audio right in the next video hopefully! Glad u enjoyed the video. Cheers bro!
I wish you tuned the guitar from the start, but this was a very good review. Thank you for not playing dirt shit and for giving actual good information. Unfortunately, the jumbo frets is a dealbreaker for me. But this sounds so good. The texas special pickups really add beautiful twang.
Apologies for the untuned guitar. It might have been the heavy fretting on the jumbo frets which caused it to go out. Anyways thanks for the feedback. Glad u like the review. Cheers
Deal maker for me ! Best Fender neck I’ve ever played. Mine doesn’t go out of tune, but if that’s an issue, locking tuners are a good option. Makes string changing easier also .
I recently joined the club, of Tele Special owners who appreciate this review. Mine, brand new off the wall of a local store, is finished in the beautiful Sherwood Green Metallic, which looks every bit as good as this model sounds. My first Tele. I really enjoyed the playing in this video.
@@GuitarEmerge Thank you. I’m predominantly a lead player so would jumbo frets be good for me? I play chords too, but predominantly lead. I’m looking for a better Telecaster, mine is a cheaper model and want to upgrade to a better instrument. Is the neck wide? I do not like wide necks. Thank you.
This model is replaced by Fender performer series. Can try calling ur local guitar shops that carries Fender brand of they still have the American Special. Cheers
My favorite Fender neck . I have both the Tele & Strat American Special !
The first chords from the neck pickup show the amazing personality of this telecaster!

Yea bro I tried the American standard and 52 reissue and I like the special more.
Do u like the maple neck or rosewood ?
Luke Crocker-Agreed! I have one too and I'm very happy with it!

Thanks a lot. I've bought one special (the same like you've tested) in 2014 and I very, very happy. It's great!!!
Yea it's a great tele!
That was some great playing and a great demo of the performance. Would have liked to see how it would handle high distortion, hard rock stuff though.
Great demo, and great playing. I"m thinking of buying a used Special Tele. How is the overall build quality. Do you notice a difference between The American Special and Player models made in Mexico?
Liking line 6 helix effects as well!
I have one of these! The AM Special is an awesome guitar! :)
Totally agree!

Man, that’s spanky. Love your playing. This will be my next Tele. Just going to add some classic tuners and it’s all set.
Love your style of playing great video I just went out and got one 😉
Great choice. U won't regret!
Like your style man you're talented! Sounds really good
Thanks bro!
Very nice review! Look forward to others from you!
Thanks!

@@GuitarEmerge Sure. Can you do a video on the Squier Classic Vibe Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster too?

Do this pickups sound better than the new Yosemite pickups. These seem to have more bite. I think these are better.
These picksup are very nice with good bite.
To my ears, yes ! These are tried & true pickups.
Thanks for these lovely sounds… great review
New, these listed for $999 w/bag. Not important, considering the overall product.
ZZounds, I am happy.
What strings using? loving the sound
Nice review. I just bought one.
Great we have good taste hehe :)
Yeh, i got one last xmas. The texas specials are very tasty, clean or dirty.. standout tele model that is no more

Is the neck wide? I do not like wide necks.
Thank you.
How's the neck? Is it thinner than the Baja Tele?
The American Special has a modern C neck very nice size for me.. I believe the baja neck is thicker but I have not tried one yet.
Yes. I played them both. I didn’t like the Baja neck...it was too fat. This neck felt fine.
Where do I find this guitar for me to buy? I want new and not used. Thank you!

Texas specials are hot about 10 k worthy foot note
