      How is putting your hand forward on a cartridge conversion cylinder like a modern carbine hold any different than wrapping your hand around a 1911 handgrip - no risks. Understandable precaution for cap and ball.

    • @japcas
      @japcas 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not really but a habit you don't want to start when shooting these revolving carbines. He shoots cap and ball a lot too and starting that habit could cost you a hand or finger in the event of a chain fire.

      Any revolver presents the same danger of flame-cutting your hand. Support hand can safely surround the shooting hand, but cannot safely be farther forward. See "Mythbusters" episode.

    Hi Mike, great video. For all the "sensitive" people nowadays that are concerned about Hans Up and his name, perhaps not all of them understand the whole "Hands Up" thing. They can call him Bob Wyre if it will make them feel better. Actually, after a few of your shots they might want to call him Dick Hertz. Remember when people could joke and breathe without thinking they were "offending" someone?? I haven't seen all of your older videos, although I am working on it. This was nice to know about the conversion cylinder working in both the revolver and the carbine. Looks like I will be buying a Uberti now.

    For some reason, some calibers are determined by measuring from land to land or groove to groove. A revolver that shoots .45 bullets or balls is about .44" from land to land and about .45" from groove to groove. .38 Special vs .357/.36 and so forth. Of course, the .44-40 uses heeled bullets and the .45 Colt doesn't, throwing even more mud in the soup. :)

    Bonjour de France. J'aime beaucoup votre chaîne. J'aime beaucoup les revolvers type colt et remington. La poudre noir est une discipline qui demande beaucoup de savoir faire. La conversion de ses munitions montre que finalement rien ne vos les rechargement classics ou cartouches papiers. Ici en France les cartouches papiers sont comme un ufo lol je pratique depuis maintenant une année. Bien loin de votre expérience. Mais en France cette discipline attire les jeunes tireurs. Je conseille votre chaîne. Je vous suit et aime ce que vous faite. Les usa on comme un air libre comparait à la France. Continuez à faire valoir la poudre noir. Continuez à montrer les revolvers américain qui sont les meilleurs. Que ce soit resent ou ancien les usa font la différence. La carabine revolver et reconnue beaucoup trop tard mais vos le détour à notre époque lol. Jolie travaille.

  • @63DW89A
    @63DW89A 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Muzzle loading caliber designation is by bore (Land-to-Land) diameter. So a 45 ACP, having a 0.443 bore and 0.451 rifling groove is a "44" under muzzle loading caliber designation. This is why ".44 Army" cap and ball revolvers having a 0.440 bore and 0.450+ rifling groove will easily shoot 45 Caliber handgun cartridges.

  • @ethanbaker6264
    @ethanbaker6264 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My guess would be the that they used to call caliber the diameter in the lands and over time we shifted to going off the diameter in the grooves. I would imagine the reason for the shift is marketing/ego since everyone always wants the gun that seems bigger even if it's only nominally.

      That's how barrels work lol, longer barrels give higher velocity up to a certain point. A standard 158 grain .357 mag out of a 16 inch saddle carbine is traveling at a whopping 1800 fps

      Not Mike, obviously, but I've never had issues with any of mine. The firing pins just float though... there's no spring in them. The only thing to be cautious of is making sure the firing pins don't stick forward. I always push them back in the plate before assembling the cylinder. Don't want one sticking out when you put the cylinder plate on and force it in the frame... very bad.

    I wonder if it can accept the walker's cylinder that takes 60gr of powder?

    Concerning black powder guns legal standing as not firearms, does switching out the cap & ball for a self- contained cartridge cylinder make it illegal without registration? Considering open carry just for kicks or does the weight make it not viable?

    Question. Using the black powder cartridges, is this causing the loading lever to open. Thank you.

      No. The plunger spring is a bit weak on the latch.

    I still wish Uberti would put out a 24- or 26-inch barreled version.

    • @loboheeler
      @loboheeler 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A longer barrel would require forward hand support, and be vulnerable to chain fires with percussion use. Ok if it were used metallic cartridge only.

    • @williamnye478
      @williamnye478 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loboheeler Wrong! Try it sometime. A 26 inch barrel would only add 1 pound to the weight. I can comfortably fire my 8- pound, 29 inch barreled Sharps the same way as I shoot the carbine. A 5 1/2 pound Remington would be VERY easy to handle. Also, the originals had 24-28 inch barrels, as well as a slightly longer frame and cylinder. I can tell you from experience that the 26 inch version balanced very nicely! And no, I didn't get to shoot that old original. Dammit! ; )

      I wish I'd been joking, but, unfortunately that is an example of today's "Outrage Culture"...but, as I said, not a single actual German person has complained. In fact, several have written in with supportive comments. The complainers are people who are searching for things to be outraged over.

    It sucks that the safety notches in the Taylor's cartridge cylinders are too small to work. They work fine with the percussion cylinders in a Uberti. This 5 chamber loading thing is a BS carryover from the Colt 1873 and Remington 1875.

    • @loboheeler

      The diameter of a .45 Colt bullet is 0.456", so it might work with a jacketed bullet. The Italian replicas are known to have soft steel though, and the grooves might shoot out quickly.

    I say load revolver the same way every time drop safe or not when people change it up something bad is more likely to happen. Now I would fix the hammer to fit the slot but if I loaded 5 in a 6 shoot revolver I would just do it the same way. Now I don’t get if everyone loaded 5 over 6 why did they just not make the 6th hole just leave it filled and have a hammer spot. My father and is and so on load all chambers and I did the same on a civil war revolver that has been in the family sense new yes my great grandfather in the civil war. And my grandfather and father said every pistol need a holster that it can’t fall out like the one with the flap or a leather strap that goes over the hammer ( with the pistol on halfcocked ) but I do see the safety of have 5 in a 6 shot revolver. Now holster cost a lot of money so if you was just to belt hold or Mexican carry it oh yes 5 is better than 6. But at the range I don’t know you could drop it. But it falling out of a good holster I don’t know.
