- The 90s featured so much great hip hop, and because of how much there was, many great albums have flown under the radar. In this second of a two part video, I count down 10 hip hop albums from the 90s that I think are underrated. In my opinion, these are numbers 10-1.
Numbers 20-11 (pt 1): • Are These the Most Und...

Also, to bring this list full circle, Prince Paul from GraveDiggaz did a concept album called Prince Amongst Thieves which features (heavily) Breezly Brewin from Juggaknots.
Ras Kass - Soul on Ice 🔥🔥🔥
Dailey Operation is so so dope
Yes!!
So on point with Black Moon and CNN
I had all of theses except 8BALL & MJG
I'm have to check out the juggernauts and that rass kass album You pick some great titles bro a lot of these albums I had and lost and a lot of the stuff that you picked is the stuff that I bought again and had to have back in my collection
buckshot used to be my favorite rapper, and i always thought evil d never got the recognition like other producers. but both buck and enta da stage hasn't aged as well as other classics imo.
I forgot about that CNN album. I feel like DMX, Swiss, and Ruff Ryders camp really was shining when this album dropped. Capone came off great. If I recall some of those beats were rough.
Excellent 2 part video
A few for me that are even underrated within hiphop heads are
Real Live - The Turnaround (A Long Awaited Drama)
Both Intelligent Hoodlum (Tragedy Khadafi) albums but especially the 1st
Heather B - Takin Mine
Double X - Ruff Rugged & Raw
Nini X - She's Dangerous
G-Slimm - Fours, Dueces & Trays
Appreciate the feedback! I’m not too familiar with most of those actually, but I’ll add em to the list - always trying to discover new stuff. I do know both Intelligent Hoodlum albums though, I love Tragedy.
just finished watching both videos and its a solid list. honestly theres some albums that i have to check out. i have minor disagreements here and there. my biggest disagreement with your list is War report, to me its perfectly ranked in the hip hop world. you make some a good argument but i don't think its not as good as you perceive it. Capone was locked up and was barely felt, Nore is not that good of a rapper, yes he has some good songs in his catalogue but Nore has never been known for his lyrical abilities or crazy verses, Khadafi is the one who carries the weight on this album and the production is very good. the album is a must listen to all hip hop heads it perfectly encapsulates the Queens sounds from the 90s that Mobb Deep created. i hope you dont take offence to my opinion.
some of my underrated albums from the 90s
Onyx - All we got iz us
Naughty by nature -Poverty's Paradise
Def Squad - El nino
Nas- It was written (this album doesn't get the respect it deserves)
i hope you make a 2000s list there's definitely some slept on albums there
Dah shinin is immaculate.
Number eight Lords of the underground Redman used to be do it all's DJ so they did have some connections I believe
Nice picks. Coming out hard is great but imo they have at least 2 better albums that came after that. Thank you for mentioning them in your top 10 though & putting people onto the others on this list. You from Philly, which Roots album do you like best? Peace
Once again with the exception of 8ball and MJG and CNN , you’re listing my record collection and LOTUG were the first rap group I ever saw live, they were supporting Cypress hill along with Funkdoobiest. Also saw Gravediggaz live supporting Ice Cube, my Gravediggaz LP has the earlier/UK title N****mortis.
456, Soul on Ice,I have had to purchase again in recent years having sold my OGs years ago.
Dude, Nature Of The Threat is soooo slept on! It's effing magcial!
It is, and it’s a completely necessary call out to some true evils.
Gravegiggaz album is in my top ten favorite albums of all time.
Here's some more slept-on 90s albums:
Mood "Doom"
Bahamadia "Kollage"
Digital Underground "Bodyhat syndrome"
Paradime "Paragraphs"
The Coup "Steal this album/Genocide & jjuice"
The UMCS "Fruits uv Nature/Unleashed"
Latyrx "
Pete rock / CL Smooth: the main ingredient.
Yes!!! Smiff n Wessun : dah shinin is just awesome.
DasEfx : Hold it down. It’s a bit patchy but a lot of tracks are lyrically amazing.
I agree Daily operation is slept on.
K-Def and Lario: The Turnaround is a great album.
Special Ed: Revelations
Paris: sleeping with the enemy.
Leaders of the the new school: T.I.M.E
Who Got The Props is the only song where Buckshot EVER yells. U won't unhear it. 😊
More suggestions for the list:
Hijack, Horns of Jericho (1991) from Brixton London. Their style is Britcore, a mixture of Bomb Squad and Ultramagnetic MCs. They were discovered and promoted by Ice T and part of his posse Rhyme Syndicate. Britcore is said to have been important for the development of Grime.
Rubberoom, Gothic Architecture (1995) or Architechnology (1999) from Chicago. Similar to Co Flow, but much more brutal thanks to the main MCs Lumba and Meta Mo, two real beasts on the mic. Listen to their performance on Techno Animals Cruise Mode 101 (2001), one of the most brutal rap songs in music history.
Da Beat Terrorists, Big Willie Smith - Big Willie Smith EP (1995), South Bronx NYC. Side project of Kool Keith and TR Love. Also belonged to the wider circle of the Rhyme Syndicate. Here with a new, extra raw sound design by Parisian DJ Junkaz Lou:

P.E.A.C.E.
Nine - Nine Lives
Great list. But there is one album i want to mention: Brotha Lynch Hung-Season of the siccness
That got a lot of mentions in part 1, and it is a banger. I’ve had it in somewhat regular rotation since high school, with Siccmade and Liquor Sicc standing out to me the most.
HERE COME THE LORDS HERE COME THE LORDS
Dah Shinin definitely not talked about enough. war report is also underrated even though neither had much afterward. i also think there's a lot of overrated emcees and albums of the classic era.
You are right: a good selection, but no surprises for Hip Hop Heads. I miss albums from the late nineties, acts like Kool Keith, Cenobites, Company Flow, Non Phixion and of course MF Dooms "Operation...". Their output can be seen as a bridge between the NYC style of the 90s and the Alternative Hip Hop of the 2000s. Do you have an opinion on Run the Jewels or Denzel Curry. I think these acts have earned spots on best-of lists by now. Any opinion on Grime or Drill? I love the grime era in 2010, just listen to:

Ced Gee should be proud of his sons😉
Good work from you, would like to see more Hip Hop content.
Add.: To bad Dead Prez Let's Get Free was released in 2000🙂
Great list of artists! And you’re absolutely right about that late 90s movement, it seemed to really emerge opposite to the shiny suit era and created its own space within NYC hip hop. Run the Jewels is decent though I don’t love them like most. I’m a big fan of Denzel Curry, I really love his energy. I used to get down with grime back in the late 00s but it’s been awhile admittedly. Interesting video, crazy those are Ced Gee’s sons! And lastly, I love that Dead Prez album. Takes me allll the way back. Powerful stuff.
Trendz of Culture - trendz 1993
Mad Skillz - From where?!? 1996
High & Mighty - Home field advantage 1998
Lord Finesse - Multiple albums….
Mad Skillz is excellent. Virginia based, but sounds like NY. I almost put Lord Finesse’s The Awakening on my list. High and Mighty from Philly, my hometown.
