  • On a trip to Hawaii, a man named Tonu gifted me a piece of Hawaiian koa wood, native to the islands. This is the first knife I completed using the wood.

As a person from Hawaii, I'm going to say that you could make serious bank selling those here. Heck, even I want one and I'm not even into knives.

i’ll tell you now, i am into knives and this wouldnt be selling for “not into knives” kinda money. which is why the market for “gas station” knives is so huge. But agreed, heirloom-esque with the materials and finish quality

I subscribed because of your recent video regarding you moving on from TKOR and I’ve been using a forge that uses a burner design that I copied from Grant. Keep up the great work! The world needs more knife makers.
PS. Please throw a guard on that Dewalt when you are using a zip cut. We had a fatality in a shop that I worked in and we have lost enough good people recently.

koa is a real beautiful wood nice blade design choice as well simple but refreshingly elegant
every time I see knives being made it just makes me want to give it a try myself also love the little turtle that was a real nice touch gives it a little extra character to what would've already been a stunning knife

Great vid and I love the knife! The production quality of the video isn’t perfect but you will get there! Some things that I noticed where the changes in audio where sometimes it was completely silent and then there was a real loud noise of a machine. Maybe some music or voice over to explain what your doing could fill the silence bits. And your voice is nice to listen to so maybe you could do something with that. Maybe to explain what your making and why you are making it that way or how you learned it or something like that! It was a satisfying ending with the cutting of the paper to show the end result! 💕

Great video. It might just be me but i feel it'd be great to hear your thinking and ideas on how and why you're doing each step. You're a great onscreen presence and it'd be nice to have that as part of these type of videos. I know that one of the reasons I like to watch this type of maker style video is to learn how and why they are doing things as its a unique opportunity to learn from your experience and/or mistakes. (similar style to "this old tony", or "nilered"). All that being said this is still a great video, and I look forward to seeing your channel grow.

Just finished watching your video on being let go from TKOR, so figured I'd take a look at other videos you had since you mentioned it. This blade is incredibly beautiful! While I'm quite good at sharpening knives (I have wet stones from 300 grit to 16,000 grit), I've never been good at making them. Maybe I can learn a thing or two from you (assuming you keep making these videos). I did look at your storefront and they're a bit expensive, but I do hope to be able to purchase one someday. You've earned a new subscriber, and I look forward to seeing what other types of videos you come up with!

Gonna post my idea here, hopefully it will get seen. I would love to see a long form video of this, explaining what you were doing, what kind of metal? why the little cuts at the start? What was the foil wrap for? Why the press, and what were you vacuuming? Whats the blue/purple stuff? You get the idea.
Also, I feel like your love for knife making could be paired up with making daggers from anime, there is so many anime out there with characters that use daggers that you could make a ton of content off that alone, and you get to sell the product after that.

Stick a match in the foil with the blade. It will flash and burn adding a surface to help protect the blade and burn out the O2. No need for bluing on the edge. Just use cross sanding (400) and then scribe. Enjoy.
My YT channel is not monitized. I mentor makers and would be happy to help if you are interested.

@Nate From the Internet As a former TKOR fan, I lost interest in that channel because of what was obviously exaggerated reactions to every damn thing (I realize it was probably required by production company) I saw your explanation of your exodus from the channel and thought I'd see what content you made on your own, this... this is beautiful! I dont know what any algorithmic return of investment this kind of video produces so I wont bother saying "Keep it up" or "make more" but I will say I'm glad you shared this! Good luck on your future endeavors!

Nate you made a hell of a nice knife. But could you please talk in your videos. You did great on TKOR. Get you own face and image out there. I think you can go far, you have the skill of being able to entertain an audience, and add that to your skills of crafts and knife making. You have all true potential of having a popular channel. Hell your known from the top TH-cam channel ever, should be light work. Many people already know and support you, that it nearly impossible that you don’t end up with at least a million subs. I hope the best for you and this channel. Plus one sub here.

This would probably be a real big project, but maybe try making a Kukri
And I mean the traditional, Nepalese style, one, with the Cho (notch bit) wood, bone or horn handle, thick enough to use it as a hatchet, etc etc, I reckon it'd be a hard one to do, but looks like you've got a great workshop, so I reckon you could

Next time you should just skip the turtle figurine insert on the handle and just engrave the design you want then pour in the desired colored resin, it's much easier. But if the figurine is made up of a special material like bone then that's good reason why you did it that way.
    Good job 👍

Angle grinder injuries that occur in this way are horrific.
