Megan Fox once said “People expected Jennifer's Body to make so much money. But I was doubtful. The movie is about a man-eating, cannibalistic lesbian cheerleader, and that pretty much eliminates middle America. It's obviously a girl-power movie, but it's also about how scary girls are.” and I feel like that perfectly describes this movie and why it didn’t take off immediately but grew into a cult classic.
She's not lesbian. She goes both ways.

A lot of people often miss the context clues that hint to the audience that Jennifer and Needy had feelings for each other but most likely due to social factors would never have admitted it or been public about it. That’s why they kissed and why Jennifer (after she was turned) went after the guys that Needy showed interest in but never went after her and why Needy often looked at Jennifer with such heart eyes and would defend her and put up with her “mean girl” actions.
Jennifer even said that they used to play “girlfriend and boyfriend” which tells us that there was a time (probably when they were a lot younger) where they’d kiss and be romantic with one another without worrying about what it meant. This movie has very homoerotic undertones and was an awakening for a lot of LGBT people at the time.
I don't see how people *could* miss it. There's literally a girl at the start of the movie calling out Needy for being "lesbigay" for Jennifer.
This movie it's like if Mean Girls, Scream and Twilight have a trio, and this movie came out as the baby

You know what movie this reminds *me* of? "Ready or Not", with Samara Weaving. She's also a blonde woman in a horror-comedy who has to deal with people who make a deal with Satan in order to become rich and famous. And it has Adam Brody, too. Cass should watch it for the channel, if she hasn't already.

If you want another movie likening being a teenage girl to being a monster, I recommend Ginger Snaps.

Will say tho u clocked that scene at 2:43 w the waterfall sink hole 😭😭😭😭 now realizing that him throwing the knife into the waterfall hole implies them throwing her in there after they killed her. Never put that 2 & 2 together. So spooky cus needy said in the beginning "nothing thrown in there ever comes up" except the demon of jennifers body lol😂 they realllllly made that spooky.

This was so underappreciated in its time, but I love seeing people discover it!
I don’t think Jennifer had any seductive mind powers, she’s just aggressively sexual and attractive and thats more than enough. And honestly I think it’d take away from the movie if she did have literal mind control. The whole film feels to me like it is just the different ways women can be objectified and wronged both by men, by themselves and by other women. Jennifer both preys on and embodies that.
I’m wondering if Needy drinking Jennifer’s blood as kids linked them. It may have been why she was aware of Jennifer and what she was doing.
The numbness seeping in and people stopped caring seemed to happen really fast. I imagine Sunnydale after a century of vampires and demons must have really ingrained that sense and locked it in.

Im surprised that you didn't figure out that Needy and Jennifer were into each other from the start, Jennifer killed everyone Needy might like, and Needy figure out Jennifer was a demon and no longer her Jennifer, Needy wanted revenge on the demon in Jennifers body. But at the time of this movie, you couldn't make a total lesbian film.
This has been a comfort movie of mine since I was 12! I rented it from the movie store and never took it back
Glad that you chose this selection. Not that many You Tubers have reacted to it. Megan Fox was the standout performer here, but Amanda Seyfried definitely is great as well.

Such a good movie! A shame it was marketed the way it was. It was only the studio and they framed it as a "megan fox is hot girl"-movie instead of the genius commentary on girls growing up struggling and, as you said it, the queer undertones. To this day I stand by my opinion that jennifer's body is a queer movie and you'll have to try hard to convince me otherwise!

Needy to me actually wanted to have some aspect like Jennifer has such as confident, well known, know to have shallow conversations etc but the thing when's she actually really in for that kissing scene, she was really feeling confused about her feelings because deep down subconsciously she didn't know is this what she wants or she really wanna be like Jennifer. It's the unexplored territory because it's tied down to her insecurities in that department. By never really being accepted and validated about her experience as a person. She gets it little bit from Jennifer but it's all just a surface level when chip gets into the picture because on another scenario chip has been that kind of support and source of validation for needy but now he's out of the picture, needy's emotions from her subconscious now have to finally blew up and come at Jennifer.
0:32 loved going to Family Video!! don't know if every location did it but the one by me would give free rentals for every A on a student's report card, so I'd go in and load up on free rental coupons after a school semester ended
This movie takes place in Minnesota along the “North Shore” of Lake Superior and is based on an actual waterfall called Devil’s Kettle which is a waterfall that mysteriously disappears into the ground. Although there is no actual town of “Devil’s Kettle” like in the movie lol. Also, funny that Chris Pratt shows up briefly, because he was born in northern Minnesota😂💯 as a northern MN native it’s fun to see bigger movies take place here💯 some others actually filmed here are North Country (2005 starring Charlize Theron) based on a true and historical story about a class action sexual harassment case which changed sexual harassment laws in the workplace in the entire country (highly recommend) and I Am Not A Serial Killer (2016) which is more thriller drama.

When this came out in 2009, the marketing for it was horrifically male-gazey; constantly oogling Megan Fox to the point people didn't even know that Amanda Seyfried was the main character. The writer, Diablo Cody and Fox herself had an interview a few years ago going into why it failed but at the same time getting a resurgence; would definitely recommend watching that.
Also, this and Ginger Snaps are a fantastic double feature. That's another very underrated movie to check out someday, too.
I really enjoyed your reaction to 'Jennifer's Body'. It came out just as I was starting university and had seen some of the trailers that summer. The reviews at the time weren't that great, so my friends and I ended up not going to see it. I only watched it for the first time 2 or 3 years ago.
I saw this movie in the theatres, it was fantastic then...and I LOVE HOW IT'S BECOME A THING.

Multiple reasons......
This movie suffered due to bad marketing - its obviously a film For the Girls in every capacity, but because Megan Fox was such a big sex symbol/box office draw for guys, that was how they angled it and obviously missed the mark. The massive lesbian subtext that's barely subtext doesn't help - yeah, Jennifer is killing all the guys who like Needy because she's jealous of them, not her lol. 6:00 - and yes that is Chris Pratt lol.

Diablo Cody and Megan Fox do an interview talking about the movie, and Diablo says the relationship between Jennifer and Needy was a combination of the confusion of growing up gay in a straight world as well as a sort of two wolves inside her, the nerd and the hypersexual femme obsessed with pleasing men (and something about the hypersexual version protecting the other parts) (im paraphrasing but think thats the gist)

I like this movie, but god I can’t stand Diablo Cody’s writing. It’s so obvious she tries so desperately and pathetically to create new slang and clearly it never catches on, thank god. It’s so awful. But this is 1000x better than Juno.
