This might be the most under-appreciated song in the entire Van Halen catalogue… absolutely one of their best, and I sincerely cannot understand how Eddie’s guitar here isn’t held up as one of greatest metal riffs of all time.
Scorching hot track. Rest in Peace Eddie. This is the first Van Halen song I wanted to hear again after learning the sad news just now of the death of a mind blowing guitarist and musician.
- A ungrateful clown like you can't appreciate the risk of sneaking in a large camera and actually gather this footage live for people to enjoy rather than just listening to the show. You don't deserve the 80's.
@@zelarotkram Sure, and it usually went that way once the boys for Dave to calm the hell down even just a little bit during the solos. I mean, the lunatic is running all around during the solo like "keep looking at me!" doing splits and leg spins, his usual nonsense, what's the cameraman to do? It's not like the solo for this song is Eruption or anything. It's no wonder Eddie eventually burned out on Dave. He's a spastic hard-to-wrangle dude. It just so happens that Van Halen with DLR is my favorite VH era - for many reasons.
I love Dave, but he was OUT OF HIS MIND to leave Van Halen after THIS tour. They were THE pinnacle of rock bands at the time. To leave THIS? Insanity, man.
Have you ever wondered what it feels like getting hit by a train or a fast ball to the chest? Be in the front row of a Van Halen concert. Your bones will feel every note. Hair standing up every time Alex hits one of his FOUR bass drums. It wasn’t just a show it was a experience. Long Live The Mighty Van Halen!! 🎸☝🏽✊🏽
Took me a long time, but I accept Eddie's work with Sammy. With DLR ..every song rocked. with Sammy, maybe 2 songs per album. I liked Gary more than Sammy. Vh3 was killer. Gary just had shitty stage presence, the album was great.
So cool I watch clips from this show every few months.Eddie's guitar gymnastics and Dave's vocal and physical gymnastics unbelievable to someone like me who never saw them back then. The roar from the soldout sex,drug,r-n-r fueled crowd in 1984 helps enhance.I think 80's were probably the wildest times for teenagers and young adults in history.
This has always been one of my favorite VH songs and I've never seen another live version of it. Alex is totally crushing it like a demolition machine, with the other guys ripping along as well, of course.
The love of heavy metal, or hair metal...at times will lead you 2 van halen roadblock. Wild lead singer, love and hate with band....absolutely insane guitar riffs..and alex twas a machine up...to 1894...a drumming machine on substance s...still hot 4 teacher...destroy s...it's timeless, mike Anthony...is the definition of background vocals...vh... to 1984...and I dig 5150...was amazing creativity...if you dig live rock n roll music...and vh... doesn't get your vote...your wack...their music is beastly
I love Dave and it's so cool to see clips from this tour but I wish he'd make more of an effort to sing this song more like he does on the record.Hell I do a better job singing this in my vocal workout video of this here on youtube than I've ever heard him sing it live.
0:18 I love DLR and totally respect what he was: a great frontman. But he's gonna try to pretend that he meant to almost fall during that spin move and then keep playing it off? HAhaha! Dave. What a lovable clown you are.
That's like almost double time..lol. nearly a different song. Sounds good that way. But even here vocally, you can tell Roth can't even sing in time. Vince Neil, DLR and a few others got popular via on studio trickery and hiding their warts, but listen to both of these guys, even at their best..ooof...they are just showmen...and more importantly, the women creamed their spinach over them. Lol. All that said, VH a their best WERE the best..even with amateur vocals🤘
it’s strange how devise this whole DLR debate is, like the exact reason you dislike him live is the reason i love this live version from dave even more. i think he sounds even better, the whole song really.
If you are the type of person that looks this vid up on TH-cam.. you're my friend; except the 3 thumbs down....

Same.
same here
I cant belive this song have 40 years old, nearly a half century OMG i love it is perfect
alex and eddie playing their asses off and the camera person is focused on dave's dance moves... the 1980's in a nut shell.
- A ungrateful clown like you can't appreciate the risk of sneaking in a large camera and actually gather this footage live for people to enjoy rather than just listening to the show. You don't deserve the 80's.
But of course... DLR was the frontman. The FRONTman. That's how it works.
@@DigitalBathInAZ but during the solo definitely should pan towards Eddie

One of the greatest van Halen solos of all time and it wasn't played. A shame.
What
It must have been a pleasure for Dave to be able to stand in front of this powerhouse trio.
I love Dave, but he was OUT OF HIS MIND to leave Van Halen after THIS tour. They were THE pinnacle of rock bands at the time. To leave THIS? Insanity, man.
Holy shit what a performance

Holy crap that is fast!
I was there !
Eddie playing the riff at thrash metal speed. Hate on DLR all you want but it’s the only era I listen to and the only one that matters.

I like it all but I know what you are saying bro.
Dave was a GREAT singer. Period.
Yup
@@cory3518 exactly, WAS. Sammy still is. I prefer DLR-era songs but Sammy was always a way better live singer
Very underrated song
That riff just absolutely reaches into you & pulls your guts out! There's eddie ,,,, then there's everyone else.
So much physicality. They put a lot into their shows back then

70s had better orgies, but the 80s were pretty good.

Love this song!
1984 what a great tour that was 👑 Edward VH diamond Dave 🔥🎸🎸🎸
Seems to be the common thing to see iconic bands recordings in Montreal.
@schniggitty1 Alex wanted it on the record because it reflected the painful divorce he was going through at the time with his first marriage.
pure adrenaline awesome
so good
Omg that's fast and they kicked some asses !
Runaway freight train love
this song. Thanks for uploading this!
Remember when wow

The picking that he NAILS at about 2:00 that lasts for about :08 is so sick, it made me laugh.
It's like they have no concept of standard song structure, but somehow their songs just FLOW!
Sammy who?
With the albums they had out iby 1984 it's impossible for the set list to not be completely amazing. (Except for maybe Dancing in Streets).
2:39 if the bros VH and M.Anthony doesn’t get you moving you may not be hooked up right
that intro, what de fuccckk

Try running around like Dave and sing im sure it's really hard!

Not sure they played this fast enough. Lol
He was a great entertainer that couldve been better if he'd just sang the damn songs right.
Dave's not a big man But. I'd stay away from those feet. OUT FOR THE COUNT
