Wife bought me my first Harley, a 2014 Street Glide with the 110ci, for Christmas this year. That’s the good news. Bad news, I’ve been in Afghanistan since early February. Can’t wait to get home and ride! I’m living vicariously through you, blockhead, and Adam Sandoval. Keep doin what you do man, love the videos!
John Maxwell she’s definitely a keeper...bike or no bike. Wanting to get a tour-pak for the thing for momma but H-D sure is proud of their stuff. Maybe I’ll just start with a helmet for her :) Knees in the breeze and vertical wheels are always a goal. First bike i had I hit a deer at 80mph...not wanting to re-live that moment. Thanks again
Finally someone who does not bad-mouth a Sportster,. I'm a bigger guy around 280 but that doesn't mean I don't love my Sportster. For the money I spent I feel like I got a great bike and I do agree it's not for the first timers or small people.
I still have my '93 1200XL. It's still in perfect condition. 6'3" too tall Hahahaha. Looks good in the garage next to the '97 FLSTF and the '06 King. Insurance on all 3 is $630. Worth keeping the old Sporty!
I just bought a 2005 1200 XL with 2,800 miles and a stage one for $3,700. You can call the sporty a girls bike but a couple of upgrades and a 1200 isn't anything to mess with. The gearing and the torque will leave the big baggers looking a little stupid if you know how to launch it at all. I'm 300 pounds and my 1200 as I bought it did an easy 110 and still pulling hard in less than a half mile. That's not exactly for the faint of heart. I see I'm going to have a ball with it.
I cant stand when other Harley riders bad mouth the sporty,It's been there since 1957 so they must be doing something right, ive owned one and regret letting it go :( its not because i wanted too I had too, fell into a bad financial situation and my toys had to go, had all types of bikes, dirt, suzukis, yamahas, harleys got a 14 fat boy now, But of all my bikes my 03 1200C was my favorite of all.......Ride safe brother
One of the best Harley's I owned was a 76 Sportster I bought used while in the Navy. No frills just a longer Springer front end and a Bates headlight and a brakelight. I rode 500 miles every weekend I did not have duty to see my GF from Philadelphia to State College PA and back. Some great road memories! From 84-85...
John your Sporty is gorgeous and it sounds great! I've got an "01" XL1200C custom and I am stone flat in love with this bike. I've never had a big bike owner give me any crap for owning it. They all tell me I what a nice bike it is. I had to put heavy duty rear shocks on it and a cushy seat to make it two up friendly but it's very capable of giving the wife and I a nice ride with power to spare. The carbureted 1200 paired with the Vance and Hines pipes produce a classic tone that's music to the ear. I only paid $3,600.00 for it and it only had 2,500 miles on it when I got it. So this serves to illustrate the bang you can get for your buck for a Sporty and still be the proud owner of an American Classic that you can be proud of! Love what you do John! Keep em coming bro!
Amen to that, brother. Heavy duty shocks (Progressives) cushy seat (Sundowner) and Stage One with V&H pipes and the wife on the back! No problems at all. Mine’s an 07 1200C (the first year with fuel injection) but sounds and goes great even two-up. I’ve never had anyone diss my bike (to my face, anyway). I get a lot of nice comments though.
You are so right about the Sporty not being a "starter" bike for everyone. I see many people think they need a Sporty as a 'starter' but once they start sitting on the different frames/styles, they suddenly realize what we mean when we 'fit' you to a bike. I personally like the Softail Slims and the Deluxe for 'starter' platforms. Seems they 'fit' more people better and are easier for them to handle.
My first street legal bike was a 2004 883 sportster custom. Bought it brand new. I own a 2005 Fatboy now but will always have a special place in my heart for the sportster. Such fun bikes!
Yep. Still using the classic Evo engine is why. Been around since 1983, practically unchanged. The 883 and 1200 are real HD classic engines. About the only thing Harley still makes that has any real, physical connection to "heritage" beyond the name.
I started buying bikes and restoring and trading them 18 years ago. Not for a living, just for fun. Im actually full time clergy. Ive done somewhere in the neighborhood of 58 bikes through the years. Every single one of them were Japanese bikes. I had a great time and had some fast ones for sure. 2 months ago I suddenly had a desire for a Harley Davidson, first time ever. I bought a 2006 1200L. It was a garage bike with no miles, stage 1 and meticulously maintained. A real knockout of a bike. It's hard to describe but even after all these years of riding, when I climbed onto that Harley for the first time, the excitement of riding all came back again. I felt that same feeling that I did 18 years ago when I climbed onto my first street bike and headed down the highway. It's simply soul stirring and therapeutic. There is a sense of community with it and I have had an absolute blast.
@@TheHarleyTech lol thanks man. I see youre at Chattahoochee Harley. I'm down close to Thomasville GA. We pass through Columbus alot headed to Pine Mountain!
I bought my first ever bike a couple of years ago, and it's a 1994 Sportster Hugger with an S&S kit. Mad as it sounds, I bought it before I had even taken any lessons, let alone got a licence. Started riding it on my friend's farm track, but then Covid and poverty happened so I still don't have it on the road. This year I hope it will all come together so I can get out there on it. I run about 150lb and 5' 7", so it's PLENTY of bike for me.
Agree John, on the best bang for the buck! Change to mini- apes, some distressed bags, HD speed screen w/added pinstripes as well as other additions. Went from a Ultra to the sportster and back to the basics and why I stated riding 45+ yrs ago. Haven't owned 4 wheels in years, and couldn't be happier. .... blockhead:)......Hope your b-day was good Travis....... Ride hard or stay home😎
Thanks for making this vid. Im so tired of hearing about how my xl1200c is a girls bike or "my wife had one of those." What a bunch of D-bags. Im like this here is a real Harley!
Hey John did you work for Orlando HD? Did my tenure there 04 to 05. Steve Smart is the man. Loved crop dusting him when he was with customers. Crash was a riding buddy.
John Maxwell sweet yeah I cut my teeth in receiving, and worked a little parts counter. Steve was my boss. Last time I was there Crash was head of parts.
SPRING PLATE EXPLODED!!! Dude I think this literally just happened to me this last weekend and I was freaking out! Mine didnt explode of course becuase it still goes into gear but i looked it up and you nailed it. Didnt even watch this looking for that answer. Thanks John. youre the man! Keep up the solid content!
I rode a Honda VTX 1800 for the last 10 years, sold it this year and bought myself a ‘12 Road King, beautiful bike, however, I can not believe the difference in “pop”, the Honda would respond, quickly, in passing situations, I just can’t believe the difference going from 1800 ccs to 1690, I really notice it...AND I’m just under 6’ 6”, you are absolute correct on finding a bike that fits me, it doesn’t exist...
Picked up a 95 XLH1200 pretty cheap and gave it some love (previous owner didn't have clue). Just love the Sportster, I use it all the time for around riding town as it seems to a be peak hour traffic magnet as there's no lane it can't split. Just noticed the 1200 Iron comes with a 3 gallon peanut fuel tank which is a great traditional shape and just holds enough fuel. Keep the Sportster clips going made, your doing a great job over there.
I have a '95 883 Hugger and did the 1200 conversion. Twenty-five years and still going strong. I've never had the desire for bigger and 'better.' Of course it's not stock, conversion aside. I may buy a bagger when I retire and do some serious touring, but I can't see any reason I'd ever voluntarily give up the Sporty.
Elvis' 1956 Harley-Davidson KH (hardly a girls bike) which became the Sportster line of bikes, was his 2nd Harley he owned. I am currently riding my 6th Harley including one Buell all were Sportsters. the first being a 1975 with the right shifter linked from the left side due to govt regulation, the 2nd was a 73 then I built a 95 which I sold for a trip overseas due to a death in the family. Came back bought a 93- 883, sold it to my best friend as I switched to sportbikes for a few years. Then I switched to a Motoguzzi I still own and yesterday found a great deal on a 97 -1200 with lowering kit so coming full circle back to my favorite bike ever made, the HD Sportster. Easy to maintain, customise to your liking - Super reliable and built like a tank.
My first bike was a XL1200S from 1997. Big go and big stop (dual discs in the front distinguished the S models). I LOVED it... until some crazy woman in a mazda hit me on it one day. BUT it was a blessing in disguise because I took the insurance money and rebuilt the bike, and taught myself how to work on it. Carb bikes are getting less common but they're a lot more fun to work on, I think. Great vids as always, John! Dirty thumbs up!
Love the vids, keep’em coming! A lot of people don’t know about them but some of the newer Sportsters have premium ride shocks, and they are are a huge improvement in ride quality... especially when two up.
All I had for 6-7 yrs was a '93 Sportster w/ buckhorn bars. I really loved that feel. My '00 1200c had drag bars. Didn't care for it that much, but MAN, was it cool lookin'.
My first Harley was a '79 AMF (!) Sportster. Black Beauty I called her. The first of many tens of thousands of miles on Harleys. Only time I ever had a breakdown was for a dead battery. It gave me a warning, but I didn't listen and got stuck out in the boonies. People who haven't ridden HDs really don't know what they're missing. There's something really healthy about a heavyweight motorcycle! Thanks for taking us along for the ride, John! PS It's OK if you say SHIT lol
Hello John, well, I rode back in the 70's but in Nov 2012 I got back into biking and picked up a 91 Sporty 1200, my first Harley, and what a great bike to ride,S&S shorty carb an tear drop filter, a fun bike to ride, got mid apes and forward controls. I put about 5K on her b4 I got as the Beatles call it, a ticket to ride. Good luck dude .
Highlight of the week, A John Maxwell video!! Keep them coming man! My first bike is a 2003 Vrod AE decked out in chrome. Sadly I’m going to have to sell it. I always thought I’d keep my first bike but Last fall I picked up a super sweet Roadglide Ultra super cheap and it’s the Shizzzz! I definitely recommend the Roadglide if anyone is looking for a sweet riding bike for both scooting around town or long hauls.
Im not a big guy 5'10 195 lb Love my 1200 sportster. Felt perfect as a starter bike. I think its a great bike regardless of how long you have been riding.
I am going to get a sportster. May bobber, may chop it. If I chop it I will look for one with the spoked front wheel. Pretty good deals on Craigslist. 75 DT400, 81 CB900F, 02 DL1000, 02 SV650 and my current 14 DL1000A and DRZ 400S. Thanks for the enjoyable vids John.
I put roadking shocks on an 06 883, detachable saddle bags, detachable windshield, trailer hitch, mustang seat. It did several interstate trips like that. People said it was too small. It pulled a trailer 70mph through mountains and several thousand miles no problem.
I have an 06 1200 c also. Best mod I made was a Mustang seat. It lets me ride long distance with no problems. Loved it when my buddy on his Electra Glide couldn't figure out why he was sore and I wasn't after 500 miles. Love those bars, but like you said they just don't work with the stock risers. Too cheap to invest in all that's needed. I love the front turn signal relocation also. Always seemed like Harley built the bike and looked at it and said we forgot turn signals, then just slapped a pair on the handlebars. Thought about trading for the new Iron 1200, but also love the new Softails. Decisions, decisions. Newly subscribed and love your stuff.
I live in the UK , Essex , my sportster 883L in yellow with its big 17litre tank is great , it's the third sportster I've owned. Great bikes. Love watching your vid lovely American roads
i was actually able to demo a new 48 special at demo days in Roanoke, VA. The 48 is such an awesome bike. It is truly a piece of art. I still love my 16 Street Glide but for a bike to just hop on and cruise around town... the 48 is the bike! so much fun!
There's a reason Sportsters have been in production since 1957: it's a formula that flat out works. I can ride circles around the clowns on their FL Road Sofas with my 09 XL. Maybe it's just me but I like to go fast around curves and not putt around in a straight line all day. If I wanted to listen to music and have a super smooth ride, I'll drive my truck. For touring or riding with the old lady a big twin is nice but it's just not the same as blasting around on an XL. And I agree, a Sportster is not a beginner's bike. They are tall and heavy and have a ton of torque. A lighter bike with a smaller engine is much easier to learn on.
Even with the wild cables.. Your bike/scooter really is Tight! Eric looking! I'm going on 70's, I just bought a Freewheeler 2015 w 87 miles on it and Alot of extras/upgrades/custom accessories For around 19,500 Great price real nice bike. For CA, USA I call it my HOG bucket list item gotta brand new Mercedes last year at this time. My TH-cam tag used to be me but what the Hell I'm still livin' life having a great time. IN The late 70's I had a Sporter black base paint w ghost flames, apes .. Sissy bar tall; hand made anyway ECT.. Loved that scooter a lot, Great Video!
Thanks for the videos. Got my license in "72" and have had probably 10 different Harleys since then, But I still have my "76" Sportster (first Harley that I ever owned), that I bought brand new.
I came off a sports bike and recently bought a used 2010 XL 1200 Custom with 20k miles for $5k at a dealership. I traded in my Suzuki so I was out of pocket ~$3k. I love my bike and I really think it is cool that you have one too, because most guys working at Harley have the bigger bikes. I think the 1200 has plenty of power to haul my 240 lb ass around. Anyway - I learn a lot from you. I really appreciate your videos. - T
been watching your vids... Sadly I stoped riding Harleys back in 92 but still enjoy the bikes. Your videos are refreshing, not all "Harleys are the best" like some of the other videos.
my first scooter is a 05 sporster 1200 chopper, hard tail, fat tire on the back skinny on the front haha, most of it is all after market parts hand done wiring, im 17 rn and absolutely love my Harley, anyway i love your videos and i have learned so much from you i thank you A LOT!!! i enjoy each and every moment watching!!
My GF just picked up a 2021 XL1200. man they did the Sporty justice this year with the cool retro style paint job on the tank. Sad to hear they are going to stop producing them.
Nice bikes. I've been turning wrenches all my life, but I only work for me. My X1 Lightning is the best motorcycle, I have ever ridden, bought brand new. Over 100k miles, dealers only touched my bike for warantee work as per my deal, but I have owned it, operated, it and maintained it 20 years now. Still going, Buell was a different kind of motorcycle, for a VERY different kind of individual...Stay safe out there. Got rear ended in 18, just put it back together with a 50cc big bore kit form Revolution. Hopefully I will live long enough to put another 100k miles.
Glad to see a positive video on a sportster. I had one and I loved it. I traded it in on an indian roadmaster. I love that bike as well. I will admit that there are days where I miss my sportster. My only complaint was that my 07 1200C was a bitch to crank up when it was below 45 degrees. I put in a new battery and checked everything. The Indian fires right up even down to 32 degrees.
Love my Sporty! Carburated Sportsters are the best sounding bikes! Got rid of my Ultra and got back to basics, riding a pure motorcycle for the fun factor. As you said I can throw some bags over and go anywhere I want. Love those apes.... Blockhead....02 883r......congrats Travis
I had a Forty Eight before my Slim and I always tell people I do not recommend it as a first starter bike for an inexperienced rider, especially for a wife or girlfriend. I had 3 Honda cruisers before the last 2 Harley’s and I couldn’t agree more about the sense of community when buying a Harley. Honda dealers don’t promote a sense of community or have events at their dealerships. It’s a completely different experience when buying a Harley. I’ve been watching your videos for a while and finally subscribed and of course I always hit the like button.
Totally look forward each week for your vlog. Always entertaining and helpful. The music you edit in is "top shelf". Thanks a bunch. By the way, I just bought a 2018 Road Glide Special 3 weeks ago. Just dropped it off at dealer for the 1000 mile service. YEA for ME..... Keep the great vids coming, and many will watch.
Love the video and the frankness of it. I went to MMI but don't work in the industry any more. I live in Grand Cayman and my XL1200 is perfect for the island.
Man kinfolk I love your channel so awesome. My son actually has 2014 1200 custom and he loves it, that thing is torquey as hell! Any way keep up the awesome work kinfolk. I will be long time supporter!👍👊👊🍻🍻🍻🍻
I have a 2003 Harley 1200XL custom I think sporteters are fun motorcycles most people down them for some reason I think they are awesome you can do so much to them at a reasonable price
First H-D was a 2004 XL1200C, got it brand new right after I got home from Iraq in Spring 2004. Just has the Stage 1, with the SE air filter and Vance & Hines Shortshots Staggered pipes as well; and I swapped out the 21” laced front wheel, for a 19” 9-spoked mag from a pre-99 FXR/FXD/XL. Haven’t really be able to do to much more to it, because I’ve put 5+ batteries through it (I’m blaming poor design and hard Upstate NY winters). Still have the XL, but my main ride now is a 2002 FLHR that I just got off of my buddy back this May (2019), with 30k when I got it, and fairly stock besides the Stage 2.
Greetings from Ireland John, no shortage of rain here, I enjoy your videos a lot , great mix of content , I just love those Harley machines , such character !
regarding seat height on a sporty -- my wife has a 2008 883L and the seat height is 25" with factory seat. Like your channel, and the way you keep it light!
The Low is in fact pretty low. Some of the softails are as low as 24” I believe. As one commenter mentioned, though. The giant primary on softails can be a problem.
New subscriber. Great channel! Bought my '06 1200 in 2014. It has the large tank, wide seat, very "touring" look. So I tour! I'm prepping for the long haul and your vids are great learning tools. I retired this year so it's back to Sturgis but this time I'll continue on to points beyond instead of back home to a job.
Cool video, we just picked up a 48 115 Aniv. For my wife and it’s great for a new rider with very little Experience, it’s low and light she’s short and is flat footed. 👍 man your bike nights are cool!
Hey John boy! Absolutely in love with my trusty 94' Evo sportster 883, bought it a year ago for my 19 birthday. Still learning to ride but I think it's still the best choice for a person who want a harley for their first motorcycle!
I’m 6’3, 220lbs and ride an 08 sporty xl1200c with forward controls. All day comfort. It’s got a screaming eagle 2 kit on it so it will shit n git. Almost like riding a wild horse sometimes lol. It’s gonna head down the road and it don’t give a f**k if you’re still on it or not. Good times.
How Projects Snowball You made have some thoughts on this ? Just bought a used soft tail . Love it. Been away from riding for over 30yrs. Decided to run up sweep bell pipes on it with a air filter up grade as well. Pipe installation . Required new smaller tail lights lol . Found some fine ones at Roland Sands. Then there is the need for a 'Power Commander. Fine product ! Can't afford the dyno guy. I am sure there are projects that expand beyond that. Something pretty straight forward becomes an adventure ?
Being the guy that suggests the parts, it’s bad if a project snowballs on my end. Sometimes customers snow ball their own parts lists, but it’s bad if I do it because I didn’t know what was needed to make stuff work!
Hey Thanks For getting back. I put a full Paughco system on. Header pipes, mufflers. It's like how bad do you want to run Those Pipes. The adventure is well worth it though. The pipes are on a 2011 96 inch twin cam Blackline. Sounds like an atomic popcorn machine on LSD. lmfao. Next stop. Some old school Avon Tires. Press on dudes.
As a customer. I saw the same things happening at my local dealer. Proper communication always helps lol. It's part of the industry I guess. I hope for a safe and fine riding season for all.
i have a coupla questions. firstly, how do you feel about alternatives to formula plus in a sportster primary/transmission? nextish, how do you feel about running a sportster down the highway at 80mph pushing 4000rpm for an hour? i have a 2016 48 and it is still factory stock. thank you for all the information you can give. have a badass day...
yeah! the bad boy is sweet for sure but I'm still riding my 2005 roadster after 13 yrs and lovin it. Bought a 2005 fxdli with fxdx suspension a couple of years back thinking I'd sell the sporty. ..not happening, just love riding the sporty too much. now I've just got two of em I gotta keep happy. beginners bike. no. girls bike, maybe, old mans bike, at least in my case hell yes.
The only Sportster I ever rode was my friends 1968 I put points and plug in it for him. The shifter and brake was on the wrong side that freaked me out. I know they switched that in like 77 but I seemed to always have big twins.
First off, I knew that those were V&H pipes. The greatest sounding pipes ever. Second, I'm not to crazy about those particular ape hangers. They just spread out to far at the top. I like mine more narrow. Third, idk why but I have tried several clear glasses for riding at night and every pair I get I see double the headlights. Even the yellow ones. Sunglasses don't do that. So I just ride w/o glasses. Last, everywhere I go I search out the Sportsters bc they are so cool when customized more so than any other bike, imo ☺️ thanks for reading, ride safe!
I ride my 1200 sporty more than my other bikes combined!...sportsters are fun nimble bikes...I have always kept and will always keep a sportster in my stable.
Hey John. Awesome Sportster. Check this. Couple weeks ago I was at a Harley dealership in Kansas City - admiring a new Road King. Salesman comes over and asks what I’m riding now. Tell him my 2009 Sportster 1200 Low. He said “is that by choice?” I thought you AH, so I said sure is and I love it!! Take a guess who I won’t be buying from in the future!
I have the same feeling about a sporty being a good beginning bike. I worked at a dealer for years but got an offer outside the dealership now I can afford all my bikes. Great vids keep it up SPRINGERS RULE
Love your style of vlog! I also like that you stopped cutting your hair when you started the channel. I recently found you thru others like The Ornery One, Bike N' Bird and the B2W guys and have been bingeing all your stuff- the hair keeps me straight on where we are in time, haha. I hope to catch up with you at a Rally this year. Shiny side up bro!
Where could I get that speedo clamp? And the risers. I’ve got an 05 custom and really want to get rid of the stock speedo look, you said it, it’s not a good look lol
Great video! My first Harley was a Sportster. I own a 15 Street Glide now. Going to get some hate I’m sure, but, I miss the Sportster! Sorry I got rid of her.
Great video John, I have a RK but also have my 2007 Sporty.., also V&H short shots, I threw in baffles do to decibel levels! I am 6'4" but installed Progressive 412's which gives me a little more height.., fwd mounts also, stage 2, mini apes, sporty's are a blast! Love them! You can do anything to them as you say!
Glad you could make it fit you! I like the XLs with bigger shocks way more than these slammed ones they make now. The MoCo is trying to get the shorter riders in on the fun, I think!
Really like how you've cleaned up the handle bar area. I see the turn signals are mounted on the fork tubes, is this how it came or is this a custom move? Keep Riding and be safe
Nice bike, I also have a Sportster as my first Harley because I didn't have enough money to get a Dyna haha! But I love my sportster, I'm glad I got it. One question so wich speedo bracket did you choose for your sportster? I want to put apes on mine too!!
My first bike was a 1989 xl 1200. I remember making first passes on it thinking it was too powerful for me. After a few days i was comfortable. Sold it to some hipster in Williamsburg brookly ny for the same amount i bought it for after riding it for 3 years. Only thing i don't miss is the 4 speed trans and the tiny tank.
John Maxwell Lol, i ride a 96 evo fatboy with an s and s carb. Runs like a clock. All i do is change fluids yearly. I have 16 apes on it, really comfortable although last summer the cops pulled me over for first time due to them
My second street bike was an 883 sportster. It was a great bike. Had to sell it because of money probs. Now i have an ultra and a V star for short runs. Lol I've never understood all hate and jokes about sporty's. Would love to see a big upgrade come to them. 6spd an bump up the cubes. 😆
Love your bike, and where were you able to find the riser and speedo flip bracket to replace the stock riser? Im trying to put some 12" apes on my 16 xl1200, just haven't quite been able to figure out what would work as a riser replacement. Thanks!
Ryan Holcomb stay safe and thank you for your service bro come home soon!
Thanks for your service! Sounds like you have a damn good wife! Hurry up and get back here safe, and get those knees in the breeze!
Ryan Holcomb , thank you for your service.
Jim Young If I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t do it...but thanks, I really appreciate it.
0:53 - 0:54 transition made me laugh. Also, I like how you used the same '93 Dead Dinosaurs' inflection, lol 👍
Scott Felty how much did you get it for
I just bought a 2005 1200 XL with 2,800 miles and a stage one for $3,700.
@@Darby-if6oe How's the 1200 treating you? I'm looking at a 2007 xl1200c with 5700 miles, for $3500. I'm 99% sure going to get it
One of the best Harley's I owned was a 76 Sportster I bought used while in the Navy.
Those are the 2 I always like people to try, as well
My first street legal bike was a 2004 883 sportster custom. Bought it brand new. I own a 2005 Fatboy now but will always have a special place in my heart for the sportster. Such fun bikes!
I think the sportsters have the best sound. They sound like a Harley should.
HaXaW 5150 agree brother
The single fire ignition sounds and runs a lot better,,, the original way a Harley should sound,,,. Coils never get stronger they just get weaker,,,
Yep. Still using the classic Evo engine is why. Been around since 1983, practically unchanged. The 883 and 1200 are real HD classic engines. About the only thing Harley still makes that has any real, physical connection to "heritage" beyond the name.
Mine had a classic sound but only quieter. I fixed that. LOL! OEM Pipes are too sedate.
I love my Sporty!!! 2006 XL1200C with a Stage One kit. I'm 260lbs or so and when I get in it, she gets on it!! Great vid!!
Welcome to the dark side!
I get that a lot. Doesn’t help that every yellow 1200C I’ve ever seen in person was ridden by a female...
My "girl's bike will walk all over big twins and sport bikes all day long. And it's just an" 883".if
Sportster is Australian for dirtbike.
Hey John did you work for Orlando HD? Did my tenure there 04 to 05. Steve Smart is the man. Loved crop dusting him when he was with customers. Crash was a riding buddy.
Haha, yea I was at South in ‘11 and ‘12. I didn’t work in service, though.
Thanks man. I think that iron 1200 is gonna be a good buy for someone in the market for a new XL
Nice video John. My daily ride is a 00' 883, super versatile. I have snow tires and a side hack for the winter, best bike ever!
Love the vids, keep’em coming! A lot of people don’t know about them but some of the newer Sportsters have premium ride shocks, and they are are a huge improvement in ride quality... especially when two up.
My first Harley is a 05 1200c.
I love the bike, she fits me perfect.
Sportster means excitement. Its like riding a wild pony for the first time.
Yeah man this bike is bangin, I'm a get me one of these as a Sunday cruiser with a cool retro paint job..
Great talk. I'm 6'6" 230 and my 1990 Sportster 1200XL fits me nicely. Even before I put the fork 6" over
Damn that’s tall! I bet 6” over looks good, too
There's a reason Sportsters have been in production since 1957: it's a formula that flat out works.
My FXDL runs circles around sportsters, 103 baby!! 🏍🇺🇸
Even with the wild cables..
Your bike/scooter really is Tight! Eric looking!
I'm going on 70's, I just bought a Freewheeler 2015 w 87 miles on it and Alot of extras/upgrades/custom accessories
For around 19,500
Great price real nice bike.
For CA, USA
I call it my HOG bucket list item gotta brand new Mercedes last year at this time.
My TH-cam tag used to be me but what the Hell
I'm still livin' life having a great time.
IN The late 70's I had a Sporter black base paint w ghost flames, apes .. Sissy bar tall; hand made anyway ECT..
Loved that scooter a lot,
Great Video!
Damn, that’s a great price! Thanks for the vid love!
Thanks man! That’s a great deal on your bike!
been watching your vids... Sadly I stoped riding Harleys back in 92 but still enjoy the bikes. Your videos are refreshing, not all "Harleys are the best" like some of the other videos.
Sorry to hear you aren’t riding anymore. Glad ol YT can keep you in the loop, though.
oh im still riding John, currently have a Ducati, triumph and a BMW in the garage. just not Harley any more. Love the channel though.
One of these days I’m gonna ride a Ducati. One of these days...
you should. I think you might like it. Lota torque
my first scooter is a 05 sporster 1200 chopper, hard tail, fat tire on the back skinny on the front haha, most of it is all after market parts hand done wiring, im 17 rn and absolutely love my Harley, anyway i love your videos and i have learned so much from you i thank you A LOT!!! i enjoy each and every moment watching!!
I think it's funny rolling up on a bad ass bike, leather, giant beard, and I smell like F'n strawberries...
John Maxwell just what i would picture a true biker to be😂😂😂
My GF just picked up a 2021 XL1200. man they did the Sporty justice this year with the cool retro style paint job on the tank.
Thanks man. I can’t really speak for the other brands, I just know how HD is. Interesting to hear that from a previous Honda owner!
Keep the great vids coming, and many will watch.
congrats on the new ride! thanks for watching the video!
I just bought my first harley 2000 883 sportster for my 22nd birthday its yellow too. She's called the rumble bee ❤️
Great video...I also own a 1200 Sportster...just love it
👍 love your vids John!
Been lovin my 2004 Sporty since I bought it new and love it more every season!
I have a 2003 Harley 1200XL custom I think sporteters are fun motorcycles most people down them for some reason I think they are awesome you can do so much to them at a reasonable price
Great vid as always !!! Makes me miss my first bike which was a 1200 custom XL .. I definitely learned alot and had a blast riding it !!
John Maxwell agree on the primary she really likes the Breakout but the width is just to much. Thanks for replying!
I like your handle bar setup. I found bars im not sure about the clamp ?
I just bought my first harley. Its a 2018 Sportster 48 special.
Best thing i ever bought
Kickass bike of yours too. Like the yellow. Kinda retro
Got the same year bike but in black. Done the same front end upgrade as you except I put 12" bars on (I'm short).
My first Harley was the first year 883 in 1986, great bike I've had like 3 since always a great second bike to have in the stable.
Hey John boy! Absolutely in love with my trusty 94' Evo sportster 883, bought it a year ago for my 19 birthday. Still learning to ride but I think it's still the best choice for a person who want a harley for their first motorcycle!
www.reddit.com/r/Harley/comments/8fz00x/first_ride_of_the_year_absolutely_in_love_with_my/?
Check her out bud!
Looks Great anyway love the yellow. When I was younger I had two sportsters a 1974 and a 1978 78 was a kicker....miss both now I have a 05 Roadking...
Good times.
How Projects Snowball
You made have some thoughts on this ?
Hey Thanks
For getting back.
Yeah man Bret and crew at Epoch are the shit!! Great company, great glasses. Very cool they took care of you like that.
Indeed. Great folks that stand behind their product!
I’m not sure when sales guys will learn to quit talking smack about people’s current bike to get them on a new one.
awesome commentary John, would love to check out a bike night, too bad I live on Long Island...lol...
Great video. I have a 2016 48, and its my first Harley. I love it.
Thanks for taking us along for a ride. Snowing here today......sigh.
Yikes. Spring my a...
I have the same feeling about a sporty being a good beginning bike. I worked at a dealer for years but got an offer outside the dealership now I can afford all my bikes. Great vids keep it up
SPRINGERS RULE
Love your style of vlog! I also like that you stopped cutting your hair when you started the channel. I recently found you thru others like The Ornery One, Bike N' Bird and the B2W guys and have been bingeing all your stuff- the hair keeps me straight on where we are in time, haha. I hope to catch up with you at a Rally this year. Shiny side up bro!
Any worries about getting caught out in the rain with that cone ram air breather?
Love your struggle to get gas, makes me love my town of 2000 people. Dirty thumbs bro
Same weather here. Thanks, I feel like I'd got a ride in.
‘14 xl1200c. Got it mid July last year with 385 km on it. 🇨🇦
Where could I get that speedo clamp? And the risers. I’ve got an 05 custom and really want to get rid of the stock speedo look, you said it, it’s not a good look lol
Great vlog nice clean look up front how did you like gettin those wires in the 1in bars always fun
These aren’t bad cuz the bends aren’t so pointy!
The night shot looked awesome 👍😎
Blockhead! That’s how I found your channel. Keep up the great content man!
Thanks man!
Got my Sporty in 2014, just passed 10 K the other day and I still love it. See my avatar.
sweet bikes , do the next vlog about the other bike.
93 dead dinosaurs...blockhead .
awsome vlog !!
Nice bike, I also have a Sportster as my first Harley because I didn't have enough money to get a Dyna haha! But I love my sportster, I'm glad I got it. One question so wich speedo bracket did you choose for your sportster? I want to put apes on mine too!!
I was given a 02 883 sporty...I have a Softail too but I think I enjoy riding the 883 more
Thanks John! Enjoyed your video (as usual) and huge fan of the Sportster! Burley 14 narrow, that answered my question. Great setup!
Love the sportster man. Great video
I don’t know what’s better, breaking even on a bike 3 years later, or your profile pic! Thanks for watching. What do you ride now?
John Maxwell
Lol, i ride a 96 evo fatboy with an s and s carb. Runs like a clock. All i do is change fluids yearly.
I have 16 apes on it, really comfortable although last summer the cops pulled me over for first time due to them
I like a 96 Evo. I can dig it.
I purchased a 98 Sportster 1200c 95th anniversary a few months ago. Had only 27,000 miles on it. I love it so much. I will never part with it.
Love your bike, and where were you able to find the riser and speedo flip bracket to replace the stock riser? Im trying to put some 12" apes on my 16 xl1200, just haven't quite been able to figure out what would work as a riser replacement. Thanks!
