This 100%. They were the prototype for the whole genre in which bands like Sleep and Kyuss took from and perfected. I love the rerecorded version of Catamaran as do I the rest of the album.
Played with these good dudes last night. If you haven't seen them live, you must! This album is full of gems, but to experience it live is on a whole new level. Amazing what 3 talented dudes can do. All hail the mighty and legendary Yawning Man!
trenixjetix facebook.com/leonardrocks We don't sound anything like YM. We just ask them to play with us since we are big fans, and got lucky they accepted.
ROCK FORMATIONS is still and will forever be one of my favorite albums of all time... TRATN is pure beauty too... Thanks to the Yawning Man for your mind blowing magical tunes )))
Perhaps my 20th listening to this album since September 2018, so I decided to write a comment to share my memories, thanks to the sharing of SMoD. I have discovered them 3 days before they play at a small local independant scene/bar in my city. Immediately loved those songs when I gave a listen. I went to the show and wow... it was such a wonderful, immersive experience with fabulous psychedelic vibes. Man, I will never forget it. Every songs are perfect, they contain a lot of good emotions... This album will remind to me wonderful moments what happened to me last month with friends, shows and other importants things what makes me finally feel good... This album is definitely awesome, total support for Stoned Meadow of Doom and Yawning Man. -- Cheers to you all

To see these guys playing nowadays is just awesome. It's sad to don't see Hernandez or the other classic members but still this is one of the bands of the stoner rock scene. These album is a fruit from that big tree that was planted one day in 1988 and now it's so big that it touches the sky. Also, the remake of Catamaran was a very symbolic thing.
Seen them live twice now, never dissapoint. Amazing, seen them few months ago and hung out with them after. The guitarist, Gary Arce is a really nice guy, as they all are
@@lukegibson6120 Totally, they are super nice guys. Me and a friend hang w Mario after the show here (we're from Argentina) and was super humble and a cool guy, even with us not speaking english fluently. Looking forward to all this covid shit goes away and see'em again
Just saw these guys last night in Atlanta. Amazing show. What a wonderful sound they produced flowing through that place. Psychedelic soundscape doesn't even come close to describing it
I love this album so much; I can't stop listening to it. It has more depth than a black hole (which sounds bad but it's actually a massive compliment). YM were even better when I saw them live last year. I've never seen a band which are so 'real' when playing live. They live this music and we are very lucky to have them. I can't wait to see them live again next, hopefully in the US where I am headed to work. I want to go to a generator party in Cali & lose & find myself in the desert too.
This guys are insanely good. I really hope to see them live. I could have done so if I was in my country the time the rarely played a gig in Valparaiso, Chile. That must have been such a mystical night
Great new album. Much more tonal than some of the older stuff, but that is what makes it more interesting. Now I'm looking forward to listen to this on a good audio system!
See a few comments not happy with repetition in this album. I come from a Post rock fan base where repetition is often the core of a track, where subtle changes advance the theme, it asks you to sit and really listen to the work.Helps if you have some really nice cans. Totally unfamiliar with these guys, half way through this album and I think it'll be a visit to Bandcamp for me.
Repetition can become very boring and frustrating if done badly and pretentiously. However, I don't even see that much repetition here. I too like post rock a lot and have been into that kind of music for a long time now but Yawning Man is just something more legendary and beautiful. I had the chance to meet the whole band while they had a show in Zagreb and trade my leather necklace to Gary for their album while we were having some beer with them after the show. He just liked it and asked me for a trade. I met him again at their show recently and he pulled out the necklace and said it fell apart but he rapaired the pendants. People were calling them back to the stage constantly and they had to come back for two encores to play some old songs. They're really cool and modest people playing what they love, while still being the legends of the genre. The sound of the desert - no less.
@@Pravindaswani74 he didn't just play guitar in N.O., it is his song, Kyuss covered it from Marios band Across the River. Also without Mario there would be no desert scene at all, so no Kyuss, no QOTSA and all of the other wonderfull bands that came from there
Hope these guys come back to Denver, Colorado. Saw them last year and it was an awesome show. Only problem wast their set was only 45 minutes as they weren't the headliner. Should have been because they blew the other bands out of the water! Keep rockin Yawning Man!
Thank You Yawning Man for this sweet delicate and powerful music ! Thanks for this channel ! I was checking for buying the last album(for me - living in the forest - Historical Graffiti), I think I'm going to buy both ! Thanks ! Merci ! Au revoir !!!
And they took some singig parts from Birth of sol, great ! It was an excellent excellent album with great great songs ! How many times did I listen to this album ? With this crapy sound ? A lot ! And I will, again, cause it's so good I don't really know why, but it's so... tasty...
As with all great music the music itself is the narcotic---I found that out the first time I listened to The Who's Who's Next and suddenly I was floating, not away but to somewhere I'd never been to and now never wanted to leave. It's a kinda satori, a nirvana that no drug can replicate or induce---and when I disappeared into The Elsewhere while imbibing John Coltrane's Live At The Village Vanguard I knew I was hooked, a junkie mainlining the Supremest shit. Rock'n'roll stole my soul and gave me nothing in return except everything I'd ever wanted, I just didn't know it, like when you find out how transplendently transcendental fucking someone is, 'cause the giving of pleasure is as pleasurable as the taking, maybe more so.
@@judanger7 i think he meant kyuss'S cover is amazing but i have no clue. either way kyuss's cover is what got me onto these guys so it's a win win in all of our books.
Every song on here is fucking amazing but Violent Lights is just a masterpiece. I saw these guys at the Black Heart in London and they just blew me away.
I'm stealing the name "Yawning man" and use it for a festival. An entire week in a hammock and you never have to leave it, people bringing you whatever you want like 24/7, a personal extension cable for your phone etc, Perhaps a hole cut in it for the bathroom with like plumbing and a curtain to hide, the drop... I'm not sure but I think it's a good idea.
matteo calciano the cable would be the only way to get young people. I guess it could just be a hoover, that'd be a nicer bathroom. But I mean no getting up for a week, under any circumstance haha
Cool, still use my Yawning man book bag a lot. Got it when they came with Kyuss Lives! This kind of music is usually really good for a creative workspace, time to edit some videos.
i love yawning man and this kind of dreamy landscape psych. but even if i want to like this album, It falls flat in memorable melodies.. it doesn't matter how talented they are I cant remember a thing after first listening. I love the sound so much the crispy almost wailing ghost desert sounds its freaking marvelous.. but when i draw.. even a modern video game soundtrack or a retrowave soundtrack builds momentum better.. the 23:20 mark.. that was goood.. that i loved.
Saw them live and it verges on being amazing but ultimately more anxious for it to be over .Its repetitive but not in horrible way just doesn't change enough to keep my interest .Always seems to me to just be jam session which in the right surrounding could be nice. There songs also could go on for hours and that hints again at the repetitiveness .
looking at my screen, yawning after sitting down, making tired noises... not seeing anything interesting... but just as I am mid-yawn my eyes are reading the title for the video... so what the hell. just got to grab my weed now

I must agree man, the artwork is half of what attracts me to this type of music. Most of the art is so glorious and unique.

More dynamics (alterations of volume) here than with European stoner bands and less repetitive melodies. I like.
one of the few bands that can release albums that are all brilliant to listen too, not a single weak link with these guys, pure bliss.
