This spacer technology is from 1980. The most expensive bow on the market, and this is what their engineers came up with? Great video thank you. I will not be buying a Hoyt. Bowtech seems to have the engineering on their wheel lean adjustment spot on. Bowtech has earned my money. Thank you again for your knowledge Kirk
Nothing wrong with it imo. It’s simple and cheap and reliable. You only need to mess with this once and then forget it unless you get new strings. And I don’t even own a Hoyt.
Well, for a lot of us, it IS broken. My RX-7 has been a nightmare. And ANY little change and it’s out of tune again. And ask a bow shop tech how much they like paper tuning a Hoyt compared to all the others, especially BowTech. So yeah, paper tuning to a bullet hole is mandatory for accuracy, and compared to what else is on the market, Hoyt is in last place. That said, everything else on their bows is in first place in my opinion, or right up there. So the simplicity of tuning the cam lean has always been their Achilles heel. Fix it, and they could dominate. I think this ingenious little kit could go a long way to fix it. I’ll be bringing it up with Hoyt, and I hope the inventor does, too.
Asking the local pro shop to move cams, or do any sort of tuning, is like asking someone to move a mountain. Being able to do this at home is a huge bonus.
These videos are really informative. It's cool to see the amount of change each variation makes. The right tool for the job also makes a lot of sense. Thanks for posting!
I definitely agree with Kirk. Hoyt cam adjustment is antiquated and in need of some "real engineering". I love my Alpha 30, however, paper tuning is a beast. I love the Bowtech system.
Man this is great, my “pro shop” got my vtm and to tune just changed one side of the top at and my rest is at 3/4 instead of 13/16. Hard to learn what to do without people like you. Thanks! Saving for a bow press so I can do everything on my own!
Same. My shop moved my rest so far towards the riser that whale tale was rubbing against the riser and was still getting weird tears (for obvious reasons). I got pretty frustrated at that and just bought one of those dumb bike repair mounts and a cable press lol maybe for Christmas I can get a real press
This is a great video. Seeing this process shows how much an advantage bowtech and even now pse have in shimming the axle. Even Mathews is way easier than the Hoyt.
Not a fan of their shim system, but your technique of changing the shims is money! That little fiber washer under the eclip is very delicate! I never thought about leaving it off until final tuning is complete! Would love to buy a few of those to have as spares. 😉
I set my rest, shot through paper. Changed the top shims and it was closer to a bullet hole. Changed the bottom shims and bingo! Only problem is I didn’t have the shim tool, butter knife seemed to do the trick! 😂 thanks for doing these vids Josh!
I have a ventum 33 and couldn't get a perfect hole in paper with Hoyts shims. I purchased the cam shim kit from Lancaster Archery, a little pricey, but I was able to get a perfect bare shaft hole. I'm a little anal about my setup. I love the great information you put in your videos. Thank you.
I like that your making us a library of how to videos and I hope you keep doing it but the shim system videos make me hope all companies move to a system like a bowtech type system
i got lucky and had about perfect wheel lean with the factory spacers. I have read / watched a lot of people complaining about not being able to swap limbs / relax the limbs of a hoyt HBX cam with the LCA press. can you do a video on how you do / would do a limb swap, or do you need their new limb holders?
thanks for sharing awesome. vid I've always wonder why we have to do this. after we purchases a new bow i thought the factory would have set it up property to start with
Glad you're doing this. Super informative. So if you can't get it perfectly on each cam groove, what adjustments would you make then? Move the rest in or out?
I’m going to buy the e clip tool from you tomorrow. I was shimming my cams on my VTM 31 prior to watching your video and lost one e clip and the plastic washer that goes over the axle and sits between the limb and the e clip. Could I buy maybe two or three extra washers and e clips from you?
Awesome videos I have a question and a suggestion. I use a true ball rave release. Getting ready to buy a true ball blade also want A true ball hinge that matches the blade. Suggestion for a video. Which thumb releases have hinges that match or are very close? Thanks for the awesome Videos
I need some help. Alot of help. Do Bear bows have a shim system like this? I've adjusted the yokes as much as I can without the cam actually touching the yoke and the cams are still not even close to being square (In line) with each other. If they don't have shims, is there something else I can do to get them to line up? Besides buying a new bow.
Because some cams aren’t aligned from the factory, and it’s difficult to broadhead tune and shoot long range accurately when the cams don’t point at each other at full draw. Moving the rest is a bandaid. If the key measurements on the bow are square, 13/16” and all that, your bow will be a shooter!
I have a VTM 31 that creaks at beginning of the draw. Usually happens on first draw of the day and then is fine. Anyone have any idea what it could be?
Would be nice if camera guy could have gotten a little closer to what you were doing on the bow. Even if it makes the video move a little slower, would be appreciated. Thanks
Just painful to watch. I have an RX-7 that the LBS just can’t get to paper tune, and even have sent it back to Hoyt, and after their supposed “service”, and six weeks of no bow to shoot, we are right back to where we started. And seeing Josh struggle like this, compared to the BowTech tuning video? Wow. Anybody want to buy an RX-7, low mileage, only shot on Sundays by a little old lady?🤣

Could NOT agree more.
If it’s not broken, why fix it.

Oh yeah! Now I remember exactly why I only shoot BowTech with dead-lock!

I love the great information you put in your videos. Thank you.
What was different between the two sets?
A lot more options. It gave me the ability to adjust my cams left or right a small amount. With my bow, 5 thousandths made a difference.
Hoyt websight says to replace 1 cam at a time until you get a bullet hole, it's prolly the middle grounds for those big leaps you mentioned
I like that your making us a library of how to videos and I hope you keep doing it but the shim system videos make me hope all companies move to a system like a bowtech type system
I always enjoy these. Very educational and interesting.
Great video thank you for showing this and helping us all under how to make adjustments to our bows better:)

Did anyone else yell out ITS ON THE FLOOR when he was looking for the Allen key.
I almost certain the metal post on the shim tool was incorporated to push the axle out.
Yep
thanks for sharing awesome. vid I've always wonder why we have to do this. after we purchases a new bow i thought the factory would have set it up property to start with
Can you show the laser a little better? Where it’s projected from and where you want it to cast on the other cam?
Glad you're doing this. Super informative. So if you can't get it perfectly on each cam groove, what adjustments would you make then? Move the rest in or out?
Excellent video,very informative.
I want to know how you made that draw board
That's a damn cool draw board .. MFJJ's DIY's are really good .. hope he gives us a video on it ..
When will you start pulling names out of the goody bag for those bows! 😊
I just got one of these, coming from an older yoke system. How is it that the older bow is easier to tune?? what a pain in the ass.
Probably with cam and a half is you couldn’t change the bottom cam so you have the yoke tunw the top cam to work with the bottom cam.
Good stuff MFJJ i have heard the Hoyt Bows are hard to tune but once you get them tuned they drive tacks. Have you found this to be the case?
My RX-7 won’t tune at all. I’m getting it warrantied by my LBS.
Need to mention the price for each shim kit n shim tool n then the price of the bow. Plus why you would need to shim a bow as I have never had to
Better tuning method than adjusting rest
@@ClaytonCowboy509
That’s funny. Why move the rest or shim after finding center shot? Like I mentioned have not needed to shim a bow ever
Am I the only one that what’s a build video of that draw board set up?
Awesome videos I have a question and a suggestion. I use a true ball rave release. Getting ready to buy a true ball blade also want A true ball hinge that matches the blade. Suggestion for a video. Which thumb releases have hinges that match or are very close? Thanks for the awesome Videos
Great video thanks for making it. Very stimulating stuff😂😂
Where can I get spacers for my elite Omnia?
I thought there was only one small and large gray and one small and large black spacer?
How much if I send my bow to you to get tuned
What’s the giveaway date for the bows? Seems like it’s been awhile
What size axle do these cams use?
I need some help. Alot of help. Do Bear bows have a shim system like this? Where can I get the shim holder tool . Been suffering with a pair of tweezer all this while .. Great stuff as always ..
Hoyts website.
@@tonyviers-de9qi thanks will check it out ..
How much Is this going to affect the center shot?
ugh... makes Mathews look easy, and makes PSE, Bowtech, and Elite look decades ahead
That's because they are
Why shim the cams and make your string crooked vs just adjusting the rest?
Because some cams aren’t aligned from the factory, and it’s difficult to broadhead tune and shoot long range accurately when the cams don’t point at each other at full draw. Moving the rest is a bandaid. If the key measurements on the bow are square, 13/16” and all that, your bow will be a shooter!
Bowtech ! just saying you would be finished by now. well before the 5-minute mark.
This would be the same way to tune an rx7 correct?
Yep
Where should the laser hit ? Dead on other cam?
Ideally
I have a VTM 31 that creaks at beginning of the draw. Usually happens on first draw of the day and then is fine. Anyone have any idea what it could be?
My ventum did that and limb bolt was slightly loose double check there tight
My VTM 31 does the same, and only started after I changed the shims. Been driving me nuts!
@@garaldfillmore5026 mine was the bolt on the side of the limb pocket backed it out a little put some anti sieze on it been quiet ever since
Would be nice if camera guy could have gotten a little closer to what you were doing on the bow. Even if it makes the video move a little slower, would be appreciated. Thanks
You can rotate the e-clip and pop it out away from the press' fingers. LOL
Deadlock is king...That is all.
Agree. I have a RX7 Ultra and a Revolt X. While both shoot great, you can’t beat tuning the dead lock…period.
Even the old overdrive binary cams with yokes is 10x better than this. Bowtech has been ahead of the pack a long time.
How is this their system in 2023? What a pain in the ass. How can they compare themselves to Bowtech and not be embarrassed
Ya I'll never buy hoyt because of this.
Just painful to watch. sorry Hoyt has to be so difficult for the guy who likes to tinker with equipment
Omg!! Please get a drill and retire the impact on the press!!!
I thought I was the only one thinking that.😂
Oh yah. Let go shooting
