- Say Yes To Wedding Dresses are usually pretty expensive, which means brides must be cognizant of their spending in order to not go over budget. But of course, this is easier said than done considering when one sees the dress of their dreams, they wanna and usually gotta have it. I mean there is even a rule about not trying on dresses that are over you budget as if you fall in love and find the one, you're gonna be in a bit of trouble. And the brides in today's video seem to have found themselves in that very situation!

I know they tried to paint her as "too much" but I actually love that the bride emphasized the dress not being worth going over budget, I see the American boutiques offering dresses over budget a bit too much and It's always made me feel icky.
Yes, my cousin had to be very firm with her budget and do what that woman did, refuse to try on anything over budget.
Usually it's the family picking the out of budget dress and the stylist trying convince the bride to not try it on as they'll 90% the time fall in love.
It's a double edged sword for the stylist as well as the client when they do that. Cause maybe they get a better commission than they were expecting, but maybe they get zero commission cause they made a bride fall in love with a dress they have to leave behind
The first bride is very mature, she knows it's out of her range and quickly moves on. I admire that and I think it is a good sign for her future marriage. She does not pull out tears or whining or manipulation to get a parent to buy it for her. There's plenty of other pretty dresses that you can afford.
i feel like the offered her a deal on the dress because she was so nice to everyone, despite not getting what she wanted 🥰 kindness goes a long way
I love the version with Gok because he usually ALWAYS lets the bride know the price before they try it on when it is over budget and it is RARE for him to present an extremely over budget gown without it being requested by the bride compared to the other locations on the show. I bet it helps that the dresses in this specific shop are usually all so pretty!
I think it has always been part of his ideology. I remember he used to do a show in the UK all about being fashionable on a budget
I used to work at a bridal salon, and they purposely priced the dresses 10% higher, so if a bride was on the fence we could actually like we were "pulling strings" to make the gown more affordable for her
if I remember my economics class correctly retail prices often have all sorts of discounts calculated into them. So it's not just the bridal industry
I'm keeping that tidbit in my back pocket for future.

I feel like that shows a lot of maturity towards the relationship and that is her reason for getting married and not the big fancy wedding. I love that. Nothing wrong with a big fancy wedding if it's not just about the wedding and not putting people into huge amounts of debt.

Oh wow. What's it like? I don't know a lot about Indian marriages but some go on a couple days and the couple wears a few outfits, so does SYTTD concentrates on one dress for a certain day?

You could pay for a round trip plane ticket to the Lancashire store and the price of a wedding gown from there, and still leave with a more beautiful dress for less money than a lot of these brides spend at Kleinfeld's. Why is it the more money they spend, the gawdier the dress? If they're spending that kind of money, why can't we see some elegant Vera Wang and Valentino?

I love how everyone who watches SYTTD makes a joke about Pnina is just lounging around Kleinfeld waiting for the producers to come and tell her it's time to feature in an episode. My mom and I say she comes and goes out of the basement for how often she shows up lol

It's nice sometimes to have just a chill segment of a woman excited to get married and happy to find her dress. My cold heart warmed up.
If you really want to react to an emotional say yes to the dress wedding one I suggest the one with the blind girl. The way the sales associate helps her find her dream wedding dress and describes it to her is absolutely beautiful. It brought me to tears

I suppose she felt she got caught in the moment on the show and had to say yes but ended up doing something else she’s more comfortable with, which is good too! I don’t think it takes away from the moment still. I reckon Gok Wan was very sweet and respectful in the way he described that dress to her. 😊
@@reemtri she loved the dress but I think it was COVID delays made them change the original plans so second dress was bought. But I might be mixing her up with another blind bride
The second clip - I'm seeing that the more expensive the dress, the tackier it tends to be. Those trendy, naked dresses are just not my vibe for a wedding.

As a British bride I can say the pub may be for some but we do go all out, chinches, fancy venues, big dresses. Our weddings are individual to the person. I had a country house hotel and a massive party and it was perfect

Do people have weddings in their parents' yards in Britain? Like renting a big tent and having a party and everything, but at their parents' house? I feel like that happens in British novels a lot, but I don't know if it's realistic.
@@pcbassoon3892 Unless you have very rich parents with a manor house, no. The majority of us don't have gardens anywhere big enough for an event like a wedding. Sorry to break the illusion!

From my experience with Irish weddings as an Irish-American, I would say the pub is a place you *end up* after a wedding or the reception, or at least the closest place with the most alcohol . This is normally when the wedding couple secretly escapes to avoid jeering
I don't know about British weddings tho, my only knowledge comes from 4 Weddings and a Funeral
The second one surprised me. She understood the assignment. She wants to wear the dress not have the dress wear her. Smart. Still surprised at what she picked but I liked how it had different add-ons to create multiple looks.
As a Brit, I can clarify that our weddings are not just a quiet one down the country pub 😂

I think hes got it mixed up with a funeral. Most funerals ive been to over here have been the church, then go to the pub for afew drinks etc.

Yeah, I was going to say this. Some can be, but I've been to some where it's been the big white wedding, the destination wedding and the countryside house/mannor wedding
I mean my parents did, I probably would too but the weddings I have been to have been £40-50k events 😬
I like how you warm up to clothes that aren't your favorite and always find something nice to say if the person wearing the item connects with it. A wedding dress is a special connection, so it's nice to see you find kind things to say to someone who is so excited about their find. I'm sure you give very polite outfit notes in person when asked lol
Everything about the first bride I adored. Her family seemed very lovely and supportive to boot (and also looked so much like her, damn!) I have so much respect for her not even attempting to try on the dress that was double her budget, and am absolutely happy she got what she wanted. She looked gorgeous in it!
The second dress-I've actually watched this one before on my own. She was WAY less about it than I had expected originally. I thought for SURE she was going to go over the top with so much, but the dress fit her really well, and I thought it was just the perfect balance of being a lot without being too distracted from her. Also she was so sweet with the sentiment of how the dress shouldn't overpower their moment. Like damn, way to go girlie.
The third bride I've seen too. And while I think she passed on some dresses that were REALLY pretty on her, I can appreciate that she wasn't willing to buy anything she didn't absolutely adore-and especially wouldn't go over budget for it.
I can say that British weddings are definitely not all small at the local pub 😂 It’s more like renting a castle or a mansion rather than having just your mates at the pub down the road 😅
So glad they told the first bride the price up front…in so many episodes they have her try it on and fall in love with it, and THEN reveal its over budget

I've seen the first bride's story many times and it makes me tear up every time. A gracious and lovely woman with a caring and supportive family - if anyone deserved a little help from the tv program it was her. ❤
I like Randy, but Gok is the best, he almost NEVER get dresses over budget and he always helps brides with confidence problems.

I worked at a bridal salon in college and we could price down sample gowns (off the rack) all the time and it was such a good feeling when we could make a dress work for a girls budget.
I'm American and I honestly don't understand how people justify spending so much money on weddings and wedding clothes specifically. It seems more reasonable to have a modest event and save for a down payment on a house or something else practical to start a life together. Financial stress is the worst way to begin a marriage.
I’m from the UK and weddings are a proper mix bag here - I’ve been to six figure budgets weddings and really low key ones. Quite a lot of people get married abroad now - probably to ensure the weather is definitely good on the day!
They are actually pretty mixed in the US too. At least outside of NYC, you get a lot of courthouse weddings and everyone meets at BBQ joint or maybe a small wedding at a church with a small gathering of friends and family to eat and dance at the church reception area, etc.
I’ve been to loads of British weddings and not one was in a pub lmfao 🤣 the most common tradition is you have wedding guests who come to the ceremony & champagne reception & wedding breakfast (sit down formal meal) and then you have additional guests who are invited to “night do only” or the reception - it’s the bigger party with a buffet and you can do the cake cutting and all the dancing, this is where like work colleagues and neighbours are invited.
And we also have south Asian weddings here which are a whole other story, 3 days of events and always have 300+ people 😂

I'm British and was married in a stately home and we had a ballroom reception - we definitely don't all go down the pub (though I might do if I ever did it again! :D) The "bedazzled chastity belt" made me howl
I think it's completely fair that the "buyer for a high-end designer" girl was nit-picky about the dress ...but *the way* she did it was so annoying lol

I remember when I went for my wedding dress the owner said that the say yes prices are extremely marked up. I got a beautiful classic style dress for just over 1000.00
I hated both Kentucky dresses, too much of that nude mesh (can’t think of the name). The second one just looked messy. Hope it looked better after alterations.
Am I the only one who thinks the last dress they put the last ”I’m high fashion I want something unique” -lady in was the most basic dress ever? 🤯 I’ve been looking around on websites with like ”cheap”, mass made dresses and they have the bling belts and the piped skirts just like that, probably just made with some worse quality fabrics/materials. Ofc there’s a chance that the show came out such a long time ago that the type of skirt was not really seen much at the time and has just later been copied by others and become more mainstream 🤔
Firstly, I appreciated your 999 joke. Secondly, Gok is usually very good at keeping the dresses within budget (in contrast to the other UK iteration with David Emmanuel). But as we saw, when there is something over budget Gok will typically do some negotiation to get the price down so it's not as badly overbudget.
Luke is being so sweet and kind to the Kentucky wedding bride, but that dress - with the overskirt - and the veil - the whole thing was SO TACKY. Bless her lil' heart, she probly learnt her taste from her Momma.
I'm often amazed at how much people are willing to pay for a gown that looks bad on them just because the price appeals to them. The idea that more expensive equals better instead of just a more money.
Feels like I’ve waited my entire life for this review video. I found relief in this after such a long time since the last “say yes to the dress” review. And this is my sole relief in life right now.

I think the main reason you might assume British weddings are more low key is that I think there tends to be a lot less stuff around the wedding over here.The wedding day is like 12pm to midnight often quite fancy etc but I don't know anyone who's done a bridal shower or a proper " rehersal dinner " the night before etc etc. Lots of people would love to do a backyard wedding (myself included) but you can't ever really guarentee the weather over here and I only know one person with a garden actually big enough to do that!
I personally prefer David Emanuel but I love any Say Yes's from the UK. The girls and families are so much more chill.
So glad I found my perfect dress for 40$ it's gonna go well with my garden wedding next summer. No way I would buy a dress for a one time use and pay an arm and a leg for it..crrrrazy

I was in dance classes with the 2nd bride back in high school, and we hung out a bit outside of classes. She's changed SO much since then, which is a shame b/c she was very naturally beautiful and a very kind person. But wow.

What the hell? Because it’s a sample, we’ll make it more affordable. But, that sample dress is at least 5 inches too small on her back so no way can they modify it that much. So, who are they trying to fool? The bride or the audience? Both?

I would agree we don't go quite as big as often in the UK on weddings, but having worked for a catering company that does weddings where the venues alone cost £35,000, I can tell you modern weddings in the UK have definitely been influenced by the American culture of it. There is a movement in the US and UK towards smaller and lower environmental impact weddings which is more in line with the way people wed in the early to mid 20th century and I like that a lot more. Having worked at relatively expensive venues, it's all show, when you look at the details so much of it is cheap plastic and commercial quantity freezer fries. In my experience the couples that look happiest and least stressed are the ones having the more humble wedding
A very much respect that this bride stuck to her budget. And I am glad she got the dress she wanted. I saw this episode on TV some years ago.

British weddings are definitely not just a little trip to the pub, but they’re also DEFINITELY not the affair that you Americans have. You guys make it insane, 150+ guests is standard, all the bells and whistles etc. We still hire out beautiful venues, do a three or four course meal and then an evening food option too, and beautiful flowers- but the guest list is usually a lot smaller on average compared to American, and we don’t do too many added/unnecessary extras 🙂

So often lip filler and plastic surgery ages a person so much. But they’re also the types that used tanning beds all their life snd that add significantly to age past like 25-30, too. So glad I just burn in tanning beds and gave up on that shortly into college 😆

My parents' wedding had over 800 guests and the majority was extended family. So.
I planned my own wedding in less than 6 months for $5k total and it was GORGEOUS. Just so yall know, it can be done!
I usually find pink, blush or champagne coloured dresses more appealing than white ones. Nothing wrong with a little colour on a wedding dress.

lmao we don't have a quiet one down the pub for a wedding where have you heard this?? 😭😭😭 People usually hire out a venue like a country house/castle and do everything there or they'll go to a church then have the reception at a local venue which is generally anywhere with a large hall

Best tip ever try everything, I was dead set on a style I thought I wanted and ended up going total opposite of what I thought I was going to love on me. I said I wanted lace and a flowy fantasy and ended up with a fitted almost mermaid sweetheart strapless completely covered in crystals from bust down past my thighs 🙈 best decision of life though ❤
