  • We set out with a mission. A mid-size Sword to fill the freezer, and that was exactly what we got. It was meant to be and would not have been releasable even if we tried. Weighing in at 138kg. This fish marks the end of our 2024 season and what a season it has been. We've learnt a lot more than we thought we already knew about these fish and made some incredible memories along the way. We did 11 fish from 11 trips.. catching the smallest and largest broadbill I have ever caught.. getting my first double swordfish in one day.. followed by 6 hook-ups and 4 "landed" fish the next with 3 tags deployed.. and winning the Australian International Billfish Tournament! I wonder what next year will bring...

Great job, that was an amazing fight. Congratulations 🎊 how far do you go out on the single engine boat. We do Swordfishing out of Miami Florida 🇺🇸 with single engine boat out 25miles out

Thanks! We're quite lucky here in Tassie that the shelf edge where we fish is as close as 27kms (16-17 miles) from our local ramp.

Cheers. Conditions like this make this style of fishing easy. If it's above 12-15knots we'll reconsider going depending on the swell as it makes it too hard to stay in contact with the bait and can make a hard days work, especially for the captain on the wheel.

The adrenaline and heart rate still spike when when we hook up! I'm most comfortable settled into the fight when we're directly over the top of it fighting it up and down. A surface fish makes me nervous. I've angled a few of these now and although some still throw surprises at you, I know what I'm in for. I focus on feeling the fish, letting it do it's thing and respond to it. I'm also a firm believer in if I treat the fish nicely it will do the same to me haha.

@@itswizza good you kept that one to eat and not try release. Brody was closest on the weight…did you have to clean the fish!?

@@adammcgeorge3538 yeah, it would not have swam even if we tried. It was the one we wanted to keep and that's what we were gifted. To only have 1 from 11 that didn't swim off is an awesome result for the season. We removed the head, tail and gutted it and put it in ice filled insulated bag and processed it the following morning. We vacuum seal all our seafood to keep it at its best quality frozen. 100% the only way we will freeze any seafood.
