The quick take down, and its flawless working mechanisms puts this pistol in a high class of guns. I own The American .45 pistol, best gun I have ever shot.
In fact its the only gun out there like this. every other gun company is gonna be looking at Ruger to copy them. Ruger is number one right now, guys and gals.
I got the compact.. Love the chassis. Simply remove carefully and you can completely clean the pistol spotless. Gotta watch the trigger return spring tho lol.. But its simple to remove as well. When I get ready to do a deep clean. I pull the chassis. And go ahead and remove tge trigger bar , trigger, and return spring. Love it. Wish all my handguns had that feature.. Especially my xds
I believe you should do another video on this amazing firearm. Most people have never heard of or remember this great gun. This firearm reminds me alot of Arex zero 1. Once the hype calmed down everyone moved on and few were interested which is a shame because this gun is a beast and the perfect ccw! Yes I love large framed firearms.
I have a Ruger American 9mm and have put about 200 rounds through it... on 3 separate occasions. Let a friend of mine put about 100 more through it. No "thumb knuckle" issues. I'm 6'3" and about 270. My friend is maybe 5'2" , maybe 125. Same back strap. M A C was cheating his grip around to get more index finger on the trigger. Hickok 45 said he heard M A C talking about the problem, however he did not have that problem while he was shooting it.
I think Ruger has a problem with brand recognition. No matter how good their products are, they're not a fancy European company. I know guys that swear by them and I believe them.
I have an SR45 as well. And so far, it has shot everything I run through it. But somewhere between 250 to 300 rounds, it does a light primer strike. Have no idea why it just does. But I will say for a range gun that is accurate and to me no recoil. For the simple fact for the last 2 years, I have been shooting an M&P 45 shield. So when I shot this big SR45, it was smooth. So, I ordered me a ruger american 45. It will be here soon. Thanks for the video.
they use the same case for the RAP 9mm and RAP compact, the 9mm has the small medium large grips hence the empty back strap slot for the 45.... love my RAP 9mm
Living in Ca, I can't get Ruger Semi's anymore. The Ruger American seem to be overbuilt and would be a great duty weapon. Still have my old P90 which I will never sell, and my SR45 seems to be holding up in reliability but I would still like to get the American.
J.O. , you have to send that sr45 back to Ruger with a a detailed letter with your findings of the trigger bar contact. We have to see how Ruger will handle it if you identify the problem for them.
I looked at this Ruger at the LGS. I do like it, but the grip was too squared for me. I have medium hands and the edges of the grip dug into my hand. The gun would have probably gone home with me if the front of the grip was a bit more round. Just my Opinion... Thanks for another well done review.
Had one of these(compact) a couple of yrs ago and traded it, wish I hadn't. Concidering getting another one. Trying to decide between this and a M&P 2.0.
I just got my ruger american pistol today. And it feels pretty good in my hands and it doesn't hit my thumb knuckles or the top of my hand when I shoot it. Maybe because I have smaller to medium hands and my thumb is not high enough. But thanks for the review.
I love the timing Delay on the last 10 rounds of Rem. UMC haha. I really enjoy your Gun Reviews. Almost bought the 9mm version, glad I didn't because I would prefer the .45 based on this video. Keep up the good work!
@@briandaniel931 Ended up getting neither and getting a Glock 30 and a Glock 17 lol. I went from hating Glocks to loving the systems. Mostly because of the magazines honestly. Affordable, easy to find, and I have mag compatibility with my PCC and the 17.
Hey, JO...you were surprisingly accurate with that Ruger American! Not to say you're not a good shooter, but in comparison to other videos, you were shooting really tight groups with this 45.
Yeah, as I tried to communicate in the vid, some guns are just easier to shoot accurately. For me, this sure seems to be one. And maybe I was just having a good day too. ;-)
I would really appreciate your honest opinion. Which 45 ACP would you recommend between only a Ruger American 45 full size or a M&P 2.0 45 full size? Note - The M&P 2.0 45 will cost approximately 20% more.
I like the Ruger American .45 a lot. In fact, I'm looking for excuses to get it back out for another video. But the M&P blows it out of the water - not even a close one.
Justin Opinion - A sincere thank you for responding to my inquiry and for providing your opinion based on hands on experience with both pistols. Both seem to be very solid and reliable guns based on research and reviews, but I have not had personal experience with both of them. I’ll go with the M&P 2.0 45 and never look back.
I always say Ruger guns are the people's guns, I have a Ruger American 9mm compact and love it. They don't waste money competing for big federal or military contracts, just make darn good guns that are affordable.
Jonas Blane II hickok45 does not particularly like any duty size pistols. He really liked the 9mm compact version. Just saying. He quite often reviews big and. compact versions of the same gun with similar reviews.
Does it have an adjustable rear sight ? I have an original Beretta "Cougar" 8045. I think it's still a great .45 acp. I would love to see a comparison of those 2 pistols. The Beretta only holds 8 + 1 & has a shorter barrel, but I can conceal & carry my Cougar .45.
I like Ruger a lot but, why did they make this model with the standard capacity being 10 rounds competing with M&P, rather than competing with FN45, making the standard capacity being 15rounds ???? It would have been more consistent since they made a model that the venerable 5.7 round????? Come on Ruger, this just don’t make sense…….🤦🏽♂️
I wonder how it would compare with the Springfield Xd in .45 acp. Had an Xd in .45 a few years back and liked it, but sold it to buy a Kimber .38 Super.
Rugers web site said this gun has a low bore axis which should reduce felt recoil and improve accuracy which makes me wonder if this a CZ clone . Can I have this in 10 mm
It is not a CZ clone. Those words are the product of Ruger's marketing department. Whether you have to climb a ladder or dig a trench to reach the bore, it has no bearing (in and of itself) on accuracy. The gun seems to me to be very accurate and I really like it. But you have to read the ads with a grain of salt. ;-)
Cant believe these only hold 10 rounds. The s&w m&p, sig guns and tiger were lazy on the .45's redesign the grip to hold more like glock,FN, Walter, and the new Remington will have 15, even a freedom group gun lol.
Not so much "horrid", but the reset is long and it does kind of put me slapping mode if I don't really concentrate. I've gotten spoiled with all the short-stroke triggers! Also have been shooting lots of 1911s lately.
Justin Opinion I learned with my M&P9, M&P9c & PPQ-M2 to reduce the Backstrap by one value and Add Talon rubber grips and it makes the Gun Perfect for Control and Manipulation !!! I originally went with the larger Backstrap on the M&P's to Prevent the Rotation after the gun fires !!! By the combination of Talon Grips on a smaller all around grip surface I Get Positive Control !!! On the PPQ-M2 it takes a Perfect ergonomics to the Next Level of Perfection !!!
Like mine, but the glock no longer has the world's worst trigger and the rest is worst than any polymer gun in its class. The rest of the gun is well thought out and made well. It's accurate and ergonomic enough to hold up to the best in its category. If it weren't for the trigger it would be one of the best on the market.
It's be hard to ever choose this over a proven S&W M&P 45, unless the Ruger was only $299 or so...and as All American's currently go for $430+ at Bud's, it would be hard for anyone to choose it over a Glock, Sig, or M&P
apparently"real men" have to use magazine loaders as well..lol.. Machismo crap kills me.. i guess us Sissys.. will enjoy our 9mm firearms.. oh and get twice the target practice for the same price, better penetration, lower ammo costs... solid video though. well done.
I try not to take myself real seriously, and try to have a little fun and keep it light. Sorry if that bugs some people. As for the magazine loader - you could spend all day rubbing two sticks together while I sleep in comfort by the warm fire I started with a lighter. I think tools are a good thing.
See, I approached with pretty flat expectations. For what it is, and where it's priced, it seems like a nice option. Mind you, that's at only 150 rounds so far, but I can usually tell.
I think its a great pistol and because of its value makes it one of the best options. It's every bit as good as The Sig, Glock ,Hk ,ect. But about $150 cheaper
Never seen a single ruger product that works. A freind has had Ar556, 10/22 and a PC Carbine. Not any of them worked. In fact the AR literally fell apart
I don't like your cocky attitude. Why do you start to hold the gun "gangster style" before you shoot and then hold the gun up to the camera and drop the magazine in your hand like that? You need to work on your firearm's discipline. Dislike! and no sub.

Not a bad review. Just picked one up. Can’t wait to try it myself. I’m a fan of the 45. Thanks
If Ruger could figure out how to stuff 13-15 rounds in one of these, I'd buy one. I bought the 9mm American and love it.

Excellent closeups at the end of the video.
"Upper middle class ammo." Boy, you ain't lying.
Freedom group ammo. Yuck. Buy from Olin.

Suggest getting the American 45 and Security 9 9mm both nice firearms.

Rather have a Ruger than a Glock any day
Right on buy American
The knuckle thing was proven that when that happens the hand grip has not been installed correctly when done correctly it is a non issue.
I have the 9mm version and intend to get the .45 ACP version as well.

Good video Justin. So glad ya put yur tool in till ya find the place where it stops.
Maybe the gun should solely be a 45acp. I've seen no complaints on this model. Whereas Hickock45 and Nutnfancy didn't care for the 9mm version.

pauliewalnuts1949 however.. He does have a XDM 45 5.25.. Or did for a long time...
Hummmm.... a couple grumpy old Glock fan boys don't "like" the American? Surprise surprise!!
Not true
That's two opinions out of many thousands of people who own & shoot their Ruger American 9mm pistol.
This the other pistol I am considering for IDPA, only in 9mm. Though I would not mind getting my hands on the new Security 9 to see how it feels.
That Remington UMC looked like it was shooting pretty dirty.
It does smoke, but it's accurate and reliable. I like it as a break-in and benchmark round.
Did you ever notice that the take down lever gets really hot after firing a few rounds?
Just bought the 45acp.
Does it have an adjustable rear sight ? I have an original Beretta "Cougar" 8045. I think it's still a great .45 acp. I would love to see a comparison of those 2 pistols. The Beretta only holds 8 + 1 & has a shorter barrel, but I can conceal & carry my Cougar .45.
great video Justin. I've been debating between the ruger and M&P. what do you think? thanks in advance for your opinion.
M&P all day long... The Ruger is nice, but not that nice.
Just get both
Compared to the P227 and Glock 21?

They should have named this pistol the Ruger Redemption 45. Sounds cooler haha

Justin, I know this is an older vid, but... Why didn't Ruger sell the modularity of this pistol? It comes apart the same as the Sig, with a FCU.
Does anyone make Upper Middle Target(UMT) ammo???? I would need that type to hit that small target. I always get a kick out of watching your videos.
How does this compare to PPQ in .45 ?
You rock, great vid keep going.
