I hope you enjoy this much awaited video! You may be able to tell we’ve just invested in a bunch of new camera gear and still taking a little to get used to it, so I do apologise if it’s a little washed out at times! If you have any further questions on Lando, ask away in the comments!
that intro was NOT what i was expecting. I was expecting some nice country folk having some video of a rover walk around etc. here you are with the SCREEEAAAMIN ROVER . hell yeah. new sub!
Yeah well Ronny Dahl drives a Land Cruiser. This bloke drives one of the best Land Rovers around! I've got a 93 model and love it. I just have one big problem which is an elusive electrical fault in the dual fuel .... I'll find it one day. Maybe.
Great video and simple, nothing fancy. "Lando" sounds cool for what it is. My 94 Disco 1, 3.9 V8 is called the "Beast". DISCOS can go anywhere, and they make their own roads..haha. My Disco need more ground clearance so bigger tyres next on the plan. Cheers mate and greetings from Queensland, AU.
The video we’ve all been waiting for. Would definitely be keen on how to videos for rover V8s/land rovers. And yeah lol I carjamed Lando a while back. Learnt something new that day for sure
Another great vid love the V8s nearly bought one but missed out...have got a couple of Safaris though so if we ever get to the South Island will definitely look you up...cheers
Cheers for yet another great video Tim! You've given me some more ideas for my own truck. The boardwalk recovery tracks being one of them. Keen to see the waterproofing video that might be in the pipeline!
Hi bro just got a disco myself and subscribed straight away loving the content.its a 99 model with 3.9v8..is that a D1 or D2??? released different in Australia
Please make sure you secure that stuff more in the back :) you will regret it when that grubber heading for you that one time :) least a barrier up or maybe go to school and make a bigger box, love the video's and enthusiasm you have, Keep it up
Cheers mate, it’s a great point. There’s usually a bar between the 6th and 7th seat mounts to lock all the gear down so it doesn’t bump around unless the back door is open, but it wasn’t in the video as we are making some big changes soon and it’s been removed. The bar certainly isn’t sufficient but this issue is being addressed soon! Cheers 👍
Yus! Been waiting for this vid 👍 Bought myself a D1 last year, slowly chipping away with mods. Definitely going to need to beef up my axles to suit the locker 👌
Good stuff mate! If it’s a selectable locker and 33 muddies (but not comp muddies), as long as you don’t drive stupidly aggressive, factory shafts will hold up just fine. I did a winch comp on factory shafts and ended up jumping the truck at about 80km/h etc. and they held up. I only recently went to chromolys, have a look at some of my older videos (especially the second Petrol Hill video) and you’ll see they take a fair hiding... they just don’t like any shock loading
Good info, it's an air locker, and currently only on 31 muddies, just fitted lift springs and looking to step up to 33s shortly and figure out what will need trimming , eventually I'd like the option of running 35s for some West coast trips but baby steps for now haha, also it's a 200tdi so a whole lot less power for breaking stuff
Even with 33s, as long as they aren’t like silveys or CSTs you should be fine. Being a TDI will help break less 😂 just don’t over-gear the truck, honestly ruins how they feel. I’m also looking at making some DIY truck parts soon which may interest you, including a nice way to tidy up trimmed guards 👍
Did you produce the waterproofing video? been looking. might be different to my D1 duel fuel but have you relocated the coil and did you just cover it or seal it off from outside underbonnet?. just started tuning in, luv ya work 👌
Sweet ride! I'm wondering what was involved with getting the AN fittings on the trans cooler? I need to do this to mine...I crushed the tubes the first time I tried a compression fitting...
Thanks! I cut both transmission lines with a pipe cutter on the hardline where it passes under the engine. Then from memory used a 1/2 hardline to -8an fitting on each and ran new lines. The lines run through the radiator end tank for extra cooling (although if I was doing it again I would bypass this) so I used a screw in fitting with the factory rad but then with the aluminium radiator I had to get my mate to TIG on a new an fitting, as well as obviously the P38 cooler has had an bungs welded on. Highly recommend the mod!
Just brought my first discovery 1 after watching your videos mate, what do you do/have to water proof the engine/spark leads/distributor? Cheers keep up the videos
Not going to lie bro I was not a landrover fan until I came across you last year. You have built a bloody capable truck 💪 that sounds so dammmn good 🔥. Awesome video bro keep up the good work 👌
Got them off a mate secondhand... sorry I can’t help more with that! And it’s taken a full rebuild with everything coating (everything was raw so corroded as soon as it saw any water). Honestly I’d recommend spending the little bit extra and going Novawinch, I have been really impressed with what I’ve seen of those and you’ll be seeing more Novawinchs on the channel soon!
@@Crawlerer79 After much scouring of the interweb i've found a supplier for the boards. Will get myself a pair. I was having a look at the novawinches too, maybe i'll have to save up a bit more coin and invest in something decent
Will do for sure! Hoping to make “The BUILD” into a bit of a series where we look at different kiwi trucks and how they’re set up. And the Racelux is high on the list! But I know Matt wants to have a few things finished on it before we do that!
Golden mate, that disco gets thrashed harder than individuals on a particular street in chch haha. Question - whereabouts did you source those recovery boards? Plus such a small world I see your truck driving to work almost everyday, I'm in a silver D22, crack up!
Haha yea it loves it 😂 and I actually got them off a mate, sorry I can’t help more! I believe Hunter Customs may be able to supply them, link in description. And haha small world indeed!
Looks great but why no rear luggage/dog guard, you don't want those heavy duty tools flying forward if you stop fast. My daughters boyfriend is just getting his first disco and has been asking about suitable mods so perfectly timed video for him to watch.
It’s a great point and something I should have addressed years ago and just haven’t. There’s usually a bar between the 6th and 7th seat mounts to lock all the gear down so it doesn’t bump around unless the back door is open, but it wasn’t in the video as we are making some big changes soon and it’s been removed. Glad you found it helpful!
Thanks mate! It’s just held in by gravity, originally had a strap holding it down but is such a snug fit there’s no way it’s falling out! All custom by Hunter Customs
Haha if you go with a petrol V8, well it’s not the best. Definitely depends how you drive it but a weekend to the coast is generally about $300 in fuel alone 😂🤷♂️

This is what I want my D1 to be. Nothing too flashy just a very capable off roader.
that intro was NOT what i was expecting. I was expecting some nice country folk having some video of a rover walk around etc. here you are with the SCREEEAAAMIN ROVER . hell yeah. new sub!
Drifting v8 disco looking sick 😎 Looking forward to the waterproofing video!
Best walk through video I've seen in a while would give Ronny Dahl a run for his money. You went over everything perfectly without hesitation. Awesome
Thanks, really appreciate it!! 👍

Ronny is a tool.
Glad to see your C-unter anchor is going hard. Impressive to see he can still weld after one of those anchors cut one of his fingers off! :)
Haha yep it’s taken a beating! And haha yea he does a good job, I’m sure it was a different brand anchor that let go on him tho?
This vid answers all the questions.
Thoroughly enjoyed.
Cheers for sharing.
yo starting my land rover disco 1 build also 1994 this vid has inspired me thanks bro.
Great video, thank you! I like the ice cream containers keeping electrical things dry! Brilliant!
Thanks!

Nice to see that V8 getting a good work out and seems to purr. Well done, love Landrover I have an 89 and 94 Range rover classics.
Thanks mate

I have found a good heap of dialectric grease in the plug boots really helps with the misfires after a big soaking on my D2.
Yep it’s a great trick for sure
Cheers for yet another great video Tim! You've given me some more ideas for my own truck. The boardwalk recovery tracks being one of them. Keen to see the waterproofing video that might be in the pipeline!
Thanks for tuning in! Yea the bridging boards are an absolute life saver, so much better for the tracks we do than like Maxtracs etc.
Enjoyed this vid, thanks. Looking at getting a Disco 1.
Im gonna have to do a rundown on my classic
Please
Outstanding!!!!!
Another good vid, good to finally have a quick run over the honda,

I want to build my discovery for offroading but i dont know what parts to start upgrading first. What do you suggest?
Start basic, tow point and tyres are a great move. A snorkel too along with safety mods and maybe a lift will get you a long way!
What a Beast 👍
