The lyrics from I Wanna Be Yours are based on the poem with the same name by John Cooper Clarke. The sound of the album came from the idea of wanting to change up the sound from Suck It And See. They were inspired to make music that you could play in your car, taking influences from the soundscape of RnB and hip hop.
Please, please, please bro - '...Like Clockwork' by Queens of the Stone Age! The soundscapes, the songwriting, the lyrics, the melodies, I could go on. There are no skips. You'll absolutely love it brother, I'll be the first to watch that reaction trust me! Their frontman Josh Homme even did vocals on Knee Socks on this album lmao. He's produced a chunk of AM stuff in his time so the two bands sorta go hand in hand.
Such a great album, not quite as insane as the first couple, but it is still extremely well made. So much catchy Melodies, choruses, bass lines, etc. it overall has such a smooth and consistent feel. Just listened to TBH+C and The Car, loved both of them, but I think TBH+C is my favorite of their albums, personally loved the whole vibe of the album and the unique sounds of all of it. Excited to see the rest of the AM reactions, great video as always, keep it up man!
This was the first video that yt showed when i opened the app😂 watched the whole thing. Can't wait for the next arctic monkeys reactions. I love SIAS but i know a lot of people hated let's see what you think
While AM is a great album, I've got to give the best album to one of their first 3 records. I can't wait until you get back that far and see just how different they used to be! Although being from the UK probably influences my opinion. I tend to find that international audiences generally prefer AM onwards, and UK audiences tend to prefer their older material
To be fair - I'm from the UK, first watched them live at 14 (my older brothers friends snuck me in, as it was an over 16 gig). I still love 1 & 2 - but 5 is their most complete rock album, 3 is the one that fits me best and 7 is by a mile their most musically brilliant (though I accept that 6 & 7 are so much harder to digest, particularly when 1 & 2 are essentially rapid fire indie garage).
20 year old from the southern US and it’s between the first two albums for me. although am and humbug are also probably tied for third as i’m not a huge fan of their modern stuff (TBHC and The Car might as well be a different band although they are still fire) and humbug is still a solid 6 or 7
@@jakemiddleton5266 What does being in the UK have to do with anything lol. Humbug is their most complete album. AM is when they started pop engineering their sound.
So glad your back on reacting to arctic monkeys!! been waiting 4 or more months. its worth it. Thanks for reacting to this one! this album is certainly a one of a kind.
omgomgomg i was just thinking abt ur other am videos!!!! AM is such a great album, super excited to see what u think about SIAS :) the fandom is pretty split on it but i personally love it a lot (the sias title track might actually be my favorite am song ever😭) but yea!!! also in 2016 (& 2008) alex turner went away from am to make albums with miles kane for the last shadow puppets which also has a ton of great songs (with awesome string arrangements!!)
i’ll admit i’m biased cuz i yearn for the 2013/2014 tumblr days but yes in my opinion this is the best am album 😭 “fireside” and “knee socks” blew my mind when i first heard them at 16
Realise im late to this but imo their best album is their debut, followed by this and FWN. This is a brilliant album and your reaction to it is great, especially the joining in the singing haha. R U Mine and No.1 Party Anthem are real highlights. Really enjoying these, enjoyed your Radiohead series a lot, thanks man
im gonna guess majority of the comments are already recommending this but their debut whatever people say thats what i’m not is insanely good, although im warning you it’s a much more heavier and fast paced alternative rock but every track packs a punch
Can't wait for you to keep going back through the catalogue. My favourite is their 3rd album - Humbug, but most don't agree. Be interested to hear your thoughts. Great reaction, man 👍
My favourite song off this album has moved over the years, but now I think it’s definitively landed on the 1, 2 punch of No. 1 Party Anthem and Mad Sounds
The chorus riff that you couldn’t place in the middle of Arabella is taken from ‘War Pigs’ by Black Sabbath. Apparently the band were listening to lots of Black Sabbath when making AM.
I think you're really going to like Humbug, their third album. Slower than this album, darker and fuller, a bit more like AM and maybe The Car had a kid? Incredible album, and such a departure from their first two.
Englishman here, Whilst this album does have its merits I can’t lie, this was the band’s attempt to break into America so the sounds and compositions are very different and to a lot of AM fans (including myself) it came off as commercial and as a result the songs can feel basic at times Also Alex at this point had fully lost his (really strong) Sheffield accent in his singing voice which kinda takes it all further away from home Don’t get me wrong, the songs were still massive here and the album basically saved the band, but as English people (who don’t like Americans), some of us just thought the album itself was too American lol Love this channel though, well done for curating such a good comment section
American here: I agree with all those Brits who think the first album or two is better. What I Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is my favorite album, but I understand AM's broader appeal. It's still a great album.
I think, as it has an R'N'B and Hip Hop influence it also feels less connected to British rock roots. Personally I see it as another direction, rather than intentionally being commercial. If they wanted to be commercially focused, the 6th album would have been an AM rip-off, and not Tranquility which is about as big as a departure as they could have made.
This album gets too much shtick from long time fans because it's too mainstream and American compared to their early Sheffield indie roots, but in reality we all know it's a top, flawless record.
Their first album is their best and it isn't close. Genuinely. AM is mid. Nothing to do with the bands progression or any weird reasons, it's just far more soulless, far more boring, far more bland.
@@MrNorbo95 I can at least name one hundred rock albums better than AM(not joking). Also AM is probably one the most lifeless and boring projects ever made in alternative music.

One of the best from The Monkeys
fr, one of the best of them
They’re so clever with the words in this one. 🤯

Loved how Alex Turner described this album as Dr Dre beats they sent across the desert on a Stratocaster. Pretty succinct

@@evanrooney5903 the new QOTSA album is fire
Yes, in my opinion QOTSA best album and Dave Grohl’s drum contribution is outstanding
100%. Easy top 5 album for me
Arabella probably reminds you of War Pigs. They sometimes blend the two when live
