    Hi loves, I just wanted to leave a little disclaimer for this video. I love doing character style analysis because characters hold real traits, looks, and experiences as people do in real life. We see ourselves in them, but we also learn about others. I know it is a tad bit funny as a fashion TH-camr to say this, but people are so much more than a label worn or applied. I’m very passionate about fashion, art, and science, but also education, wellness, and mental health and I know so many of you are as well. If you are returning you know the drill, there are mentions of sensitive topics such as mental health, abuse, body image, etc but nothing graphic is ever shown on screen or described in detail as always.
    Also, thank you for your patience as this video took a bit longer since Euphoria is very difficult to edit around the more explicit content, but I hope that it is enjoyable and can be a healing video as I feel Euphoria has such raw depictions of different coming-of-age stories with real fashion to match! I’d love to know, which look was your favorite. Mine are Maddy’s vintage Norman Norell gown and Jules’ Juliet/angel costume. XO, MM

      I love all of Maddie’s purple outfit looks. Purple looks so good on her and I personally love the color too. It makes sense why purple is her signature color. Her carnival outfit (like the audacity and boldness in that scene too) and this one purple body-con dress with the floral sheer purple cardigan in this short random scene with her friends are my favorites. Her two piece sets are amazing too. She has good outfits in season 2 as well but I remember her season 1 outfits more. I also actually really like some of Cassie outfits from season 2 haha. They look off on her obviously but I still think they’re cute in general. Like her one pink sweater and jeans look, and the pink one piece swimsuit she wore in the hot tub, I actually think both are cute. I have a similar body type to Cassie and like showing off my physique a bit personally so I feel like the perfect look for me is combining Cassie’s outfit structures and feminine touch with Maddie’s color scheme and bold theme.

    Cassie’s original outfits are adorable. I hate her copying maddy’s style it’s too cringe for her real beauty. Maddy’s style fits her beauty too but they are just such diff people who should embrace that about themselves (Maddy does, but Cassie Is lost)

      It’s definitely out of jealousy and low self esteem. Your pretty and I’m willing to bet the girl who did that to you for whatever reason felt inferior and felt like who was was as herself wasn’t good enough.
      Honestly with having body dysmorphia sometimes I get similar feelings but they never ever develop into wanting to steal someone’s life lol. Most of the time I feel like I have to change literally everything abt myself to be accepted and to be beautiful but it’s never copying anyone else or taking it out on another person,

    I think the part that is missing is that Cassie is consumed with her own aesthetic and the way Maddie and Jules appear because of the male gaze. The ability to “possess” male attention by women around her who don’t seem to have to do anything to earn it.
    And all of those flashbacks of her childhood, you see how hard she is, hoping to have earned attention, but she always seems to fall short. When she was abused was the only time it came without effort on her part.
    You also see that once she has that attention, she’s only content for what, a day? It’s not about her wanting to be like those women because of the other traits they have it’s about her wanting the male attention she sees they get

    • @maddyG7414
      @maddyG7414 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +76

      This is a great point, but I’ll add to it and say that Cassie does get male attention without trying, because that’s hinted at when they describe her childhood and when she begins to ‘develop’ and men start noticing her simply for how she looks. Not to mention the gross way all the men at her school see her, while also still wanting to get with her (Nate for ex). I think what Cassie wants is to get male attention in the same unbothered way that both Maddie and Jules seem to get it. She wants that security and the effortlessness, as well as the ‘right’ kind of male attention in here eyes: where they’re obsessed with her, not just her looks.

I appreciate that you tackled the unhealthy aspects but also the deeply psychological aspects that I can have grace for. Great content!

    The imitation can show as both trying to fit into conformity, or a lack of identity. When someone observes the aesthetics of what brings up another, they will try to intimate it to bring up their own confidence, or intentionally mock it since there can sometimes be a form of "competition" w another. Fashion is a form of art meant to embrace and empower ourselves instead looking for the validation of others through group think.

  • @LilaBaMe
    @LilaBaMe 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

    I think your analysis IS very on point.
    I very much want to ad about how she has been disminiched all her life becausz men sexualize her
    And when Nate and her sleep together for thé first Time it felt really off and potentially REALLY traumatising to her (she was Lost and really drunk I really think nobody talked enough about how she was coerced to sex and this could be considered rape)
    That could have add on her trauma and explain why she wanted Nate s attention so much
    Even though it might seem twisted sometimes SA survivor s try to find explanations because thé reality of thé trauma is too hard and thé brain can't process so it might be simpler to convince oneself that oneself desires thé attention of thé person that to face what happened especially because she feels guilty because he is Maddy s boyfriend
    Remember AT thé fair when she was high ? I don't think she cas hinting anything or making a move on anybody, I feel like she knows how to let go only trhough being sexual because she has been sexualised and Taken advantage all of her post puberty life, I feel like it's the only area she could explore and the only aspect of her self that she could expose , so I think she was juste enjoying herself as a traumatized hypersexualised young girl in thé car with Nate and that he took advantage because he saw she was vulnérable
    It feels liké she IS trying re peat thé trauma of being abused and objectified and Taken advantage of by Nate while copying her Friend who se been abused multiple Times by Nate
    And amongst sa survivor especially peaple who have survived several SA it IS pretty common to adopt behaviors that dissociate you.
    Also people who have been victims of SA are more likely to go though it again than people who haven't because they dissociate faster and predator or abusers who think sex IS due to them will spot them as easier victims (of course this not Always the case it s not a condamnation but it's important that SA survivors have accès to health Care mental ans physical and that WE as a society speak up when in séquences described as sex thé consent or enlightened desire IS obv lacking)
    (English IS not my first language so forgive thé construction of the message)

    what a well rounded thoroughly explained banger I'd suggest 2003's thirteen and 1999's Jawbreaker, both are films that use fashion as a propeller to the main plot. Using the main character's style change through out to reflect the characters mental state, 2 very different situational premises with relatability even in there extremes (even now being a woman watching both the sense of "yup I get it" has continued), both coming of age girlhood tales as well!

    She would tell me not to wear something because it was ugly… and then go buy it…
    Always lying to people about her life, and telling them traits that were actually mine.
    I’m 28 and she’s now 31 and we were friends for 15 years however when you start lying about your life that’s when I knew something about her wasn’t right.
