I am happy! I did all of that for my own personal use, not likes, then shared to help the community. :D looks like some found it useful, which is great! also, text editing wasn't a chore at all. VIM.
WOW! I'm a rookie cuber at the age of 55! I just started cubing about 6 weeks ago. I can now solve the cube on my own without a video or cheat sheet. It take me about 4 minutes to solve, but now that I have a bunch of algorithms memorized and found this excellent video on finger trick...I can see my best time getting down to sub 1 minute. No plans to compete, I just want to improve my best time. Thank you! I'm currently handling the cube like a hand full of rocks, lol! Thanks again.
I"m 51 now, but first learned to solve when I was a freshman in highschool. I was sub 60 then, by doing all corners first then all edges. Never had a clue about all these other methods. Recently, i'm lucky to get under 2 minutes. By best time now is 1:41 using that same method I know so well. Now learning Roux and feel much the same as you... Just starting to learn fingertricks.
Hi James, glad to hear there are other people later in life having fun with the cube. I stuck at about 2-3 minutes using the beginner method. I would love to learn "Roux" or CFOP", but so far it's over my head. :) I'm going to look around my area to see if cubers meet up around here. I'm sure someone would tutor me for some extra cash. Thanks for the reply. Let me know if you find any good videos on the methods above if they break them down for newbies.
I'm a bit like you too, started cubing in the early 1980s, then forgot the solution. Years later I'm back again and relearning the basic solution before going onto all the other methods. It's amazing how much there is on the internet!
This was very helpful to me. I can solved the cube in about 3 minutes. I’m an old guy who Needs to get his fingers moving. I’ve been all wrist after learning the beginners method. So, time to work On finger control and speed. I can now do F2L, but very slowly. I’m now in a hurry, just want to solve the 3x3 under 1 minute routinely. Thank you Again. 👍👍
For M moves I like to use my ring finger and drag the slice back from the front, instead of pushing it. I also sometimes use my pinky for M and M' if I want to be able to do both U and U's in that grip. Also, you can do B2 as ring-middle, but that's really only useful for scrambling and one bizarre but okay-ish Gb perm.
A finger trick I use a lot is pinky ring for b2, or ring pinky if thats what you like. It is super useful if you want to put in a cross edge in the back without having to rotate.
The best example for double flicks is the 4x4 oll parity alg. Also pushing for U moves isn't as powerful as pulling with the nail side of the pointer finger with the left hand, like most people do with OH.
I use the U2 at 5:05, but NOT for U2, if that makes sense. I kinda use it for the (R U R' U) trigger, and the like - such as with Na Perm (I do it [R U R' U] [Jb Perm] [U2 R U' R'], not Chris' or BadMephisto's method). I think it's really fast to do it like that, and I guess it's a good example of where fingertricking can be very versatile.
I can do my cube in around 3 minutes now. Laugh if you want, but I'm proud as hell about it. Going to learn these finger tricks to try and get my time down! :D
my fingertricks are unique. usually I do layer turns like normal, but my 2 gens with U and M are like if I fridrich it. none the less, on video, some algs look really cool.
So I'm this non-cubing guy who wants to start off learning these beginner algorhythms and I'm purely astonished by the speed you're able to solve this tiny little upsetting and obsessive thing called Rubiks Cube
I'm one of those people that does a U2 with that 1 finger push. I don't really do it that often but I do it a lot during z-perms. It just flows well for me haha
your slow example twists look REALLY sarcastic. like, ridiculously sarcastic. I never thought I could hate another human being so much based entirely on how slow they move their effeminate hands.
Good stuff as always. I have also experimented with doing F2 with pinky-ring, which is hella fast and could come useful for algorithms with adapted rotations.
That's bad, how do you double flick the U? I used to do what you're saying for a long time until I learned to double flick the M2 with one hand and double flick the U2 with the other.
I found a really easy way to explain U/U' finger tricks to my friends. If they ask how, I tell them to keep their index finger at the back and bring their finger to their thumb while turning the cube.
for the y perm i find it natural to use my left index at the end to finish it off, but i kind of regrip and put my thumb on the bottom and it flows really well, enough to not call it a regrip really
I learned U2 and D2 by constantly doing and undoing the checker pattern with one hand, I would do U2 with index then middle finger then D2 with ring then middle, and switch hands, mainly just did it to learn to mirror the v-perm
alright. I'm a beginner cuber (literally, I only know layer by layer and I'm quite shit lol), what is the best method to learn next? Is there kind of a ladder for methods?
I first just want to say great video; a lot of good info for a beginner cube like myself. I do have a few questions though: 1: How long did it take for you to memorize F2L, OLL, and PLL? 2: I use the Newisland Phoenix stickerless cube, and it's not as smooth as your Thunderclap, so should I get a different cube? Thanks in advance!
I push up from the bottom with the nail/knuckle nearest to nail of my right index finger for F' sometimes (especially J and Rb perms), its really fast even though literally no one else does it
Hey Chris, I'm really looking forward to seeing you at Cubetcha 2016. Also I was wondering, I have this old (and i mean seriously old) rubiks 4x4, and I was hoping you could take a look at it and see if you recognize it. I've never seen a rubiks 4x4 with this color scheme, I looked it up and found out it's called the "japanese" color scheme and it said some of the earliest rubiks brand cubes had this scheme, but they changed it for some reason. Anyways, im really excited to see you there. :)
can u pls have an in depth vid on Zbll coll cll and all those subsets what they r. i have tried to find what they are but i dont get . alo can u pls mention a web site in wich i can find it
COLL: Last layer subset where top edges need to be oriented. Orients and permutes corners in one step ZBLL: Last layer subset where top edges need to be oriented. Solves everything from there 2x2 CLL: A subset for 2x2 last layer that solves everything 3x3 CLL: Like COLL but edges don't need to be oriented
I always found it interesting that you could solve the last layer by doing CLL (because you don't care about EO) and then ELL, despite it being a bit harder to recognize than OLL and PLL
Is it suggested to learn OH - 3x3 with your weak hand to improve the weak hand so that your normal solves with 2 hands will improve? I think I am going to start learning OH with my left so that i can strengthen and train my fingers to help with algs for normal solving to help fluidity.
This is an old comment to be replying to, but one reason a lot of people do OH left handed is because of the algs. For 2H you're already using algs which favor turns on the right and top faces, and when doing OH with left hand you can hit both of those faces without any regrip. Also, most solvers will hold the cube primarily with their left hand during 2H solving, so doing OH with left means that you're using the hand that's already best at stabilizing the cube. If you want to OH with right hand you can mirror all your algs or turn your cube sideways.
Great trick for D2! Still practicing it, but already got sub-1 on both A-perms! Btw I slowed down some of Felik's 3x3 competition videos to 1/4 speed, and apparently he uses pinky-ring instead of ring-pinky for D2?
I average 25 seconds and I use 2 look oll, I know about half of pll, and I use intuitive f2l. What do I do to get faster? (fingertrick better, learn better f2l, learn full pll)
does anyone else use u push moves with T perms? I do it because its kind of awkward to have my right hand in that position.but of course I don't do push u moves in sexy moves because sometimes you can pull off the sexy move in algorithms so that you don't have to regrip in the middle of the algorithm. plus, I have sort of small hands, so I have to take off my middle finger from the back and release my ring finger just a little bit when I do the beginning of a T perm the way most people do them.
6:50 how do you stabilize the cub as a whole when doing this finger trick, I attempted to do it without changing grip (moreso than just a thumb or pinky) and the cube either felt like it was going to fall out of my hand or did fall out of my hand
Hey Chris, I have a question. I'm currently sub 30 and know Full PLL, Intuitive f2l, and 2 look OLL. What should I learn next to get 20-15 seconds?? Please respond. Thanks in advance man!
I dont think full OLL is necessary until your averaging probably around 15-16. But then again the earlier you learn it the more time you give yourself to nail in recognition. :)
Yes I can and my middle finger is only half the size of a spacebar key and I can sub 1 H-perms. Also chris on Z-perms hold the adjacent edges on the other side as you would if you do right hand M' moves and do. M' U M2 U M2 U M' U2 M2 trust me it's much faster than M2 U M2 U M' U2 M2 U2 M' Loving your videos and also when or will alg of the week come back and if it does I suggest the triple Sune ZBLL case.
I don't know how to do the F' with your left index finger. I have a lot of trouble because I cannot to it with my thumb in the front so I just regrip and do it. Please help me
Really one of the most important things for speed cubing are long and thin fingers. I unfortunately don't have long and thin fingers and feel the burn of not being able to speed cube.
Decent solvers can average sub 30 with beginner's method, so you definitely can get faster with your method. That being said, your method is probably trash so you should switch to something with more potential. CFOP, Roux, ZZ, and even Petrus all have pretty good potential for speedsolving, and I would personally recommend them in the same order that I listed them.
I on average solve around 60-70 seconds using a combination of the beginner's method, CFOP, and algorithms from other cubes. I have tried to learn F2L but it takes me much longer than the way I do it now (Videos/tutorials I have watched confuse me on this). Is there any alternative way to solve the first 2 layers quickly or a very detailed explanation of F2L?

Hey man, nice knowing about your progress. What cube do you use? If you use a Rubik’s brand, I would recommend switching to a speedcube.
Major props on going very slow and taking your time. I've seen too many tutorials where the person recording would rush it, making things confusing.
That cube with the fuschia color looks so dope!!
also really nice tutorial

Also pushing for U moves isn't as powerful as pulling with the nail side of the pointer finger with the left hand, like most people do with OH.

Chris is back
Thanks for the great video. Very well done and it has improved my time greatly. I am interested in what kind of Lube you use for your cubes?
Congrats on 50k subs!!!
Is there kind of a ladder for methods?

nah dude, start with intuitive f2l.
This video is so good to help with finger tricking 10/10 good job👍
The weird U2 that you said that was uncomfortable is mainly used for OH. I use that U2 when doing OH sune
Thank you so much ! You also learned me to do H permutation
This made me realize I'm into cube asmr
Throwback to the days when I told him that I used pinky ring, and people commented Feliks did too, fun times.
I first just want to say great video; a lot of good info for a beginner cube like myself. I do have a few questions though:
1: How long did it take for you to memorize F2L, OLL, and PLL?
2: I use the Newisland Phoenix stickerless cube, and it's not as smooth as your Thunderclap, so should I get a different cube?
Thanks in advance!
I push up from the bottom with the nail/knuckle nearest to nail of my right index finger for F' sometimes (especially J and Rb perms), its really fast even though literally no one else does it
can you use these tricks on girls?
HiroPiro depending on the position
If there is a cube involved there are no girls in sight.
HiroPiro when.you get one lol ROASTED
I wish

This is a masterpiece thanks a lot :D
This is gonna be useful ! Ill watch it later through

Hey Chris, I'm really looking forward to seeing you at Cubetcha 2016. I learned some of these finger tricks and, I gotta say, my girlfriend is so much happier with me now.
can u pls have an in depth vid on Zbll coll cll and all those subsets what they r. i have tried to find what they are but i dont get . alo can u pls mention a web site in wich i can find it
COLL: Last layer subset where top edges need to be oriented. Orients and permutes corners in one step
ZBLL: Last layer subset where top edges need to be oriented. Solves everything from there
2x2 CLL: A subset for 2x2 last layer that solves everything
3x3 CLL: Like COLL but edges don't need to be oriented
I always found it interesting that you could solve the last layer by doing CLL (because you don't care about EO) and then ELL, despite it being a bit harder to recognize than OLL and PLL
Awww I'm pinky is never gonna change the direction of the cube!!
5 videos in about a week Chris is that a PB???
I can tell I am going to use that new m2 move a lot now...
Is it suggested to learn OH - 3x3 with your weak hand to improve the weak hand so that your normal solves with 2 hands will improve? I think I am going to start learning OH with my left so that i can strengthen and train my fingers to help with algs for normal solving to help fluidity.
Also is it ok that I like to use my pinky first for doing a D2 instead of ring? I feel like pinky ring is a lot smoother idk.
I have double joint fingers, I can do many weird things with my fingure. So whenever I cube, my ring fingure and pinky fingure freezes.
I average 25 seconds and I use 2 look oll, I know about half of pll, and I use intuitive f2l. What do I do to get faster? (fingertrick better, learn better f2l, learn full pll)
You just answered your own question.
TwistyTie he meant which of the options
Alyssa Cubes At this level you should learn advanced F2L then full pll
A great, good, and helpful video thanks!
what is the cube that u r using? and really rhis is the video that i was waiting for. thanks
Which software you use for making videos editing
for U2 double flick I use middle-index rather than index-middle
All my fingers on the left hand just bend backwards. So when I try to do U' with my left index finger, it just bends back and ruins the move.
does anyone else use u push moves with T perms?
I do D2s with my ring finger first and then middle finger, anyone else? And I use right hand just because I'm used to it.
same

You should do this for one handed!
I use the F' index all the time, I can do it from the home position, so it's almost my default.
Hey Chris, I have a question. I'm currently sub 30 and know Full PLL, Intuitive f2l, and 2 look OLL. What should I learn next to get 20-15 seconds?? Please respond. Thanks in advance man!
You could replace a lot of your intuitive F2L algs with actual algs. Lots of people around that speed have really inefficient F2L.
Thanks! And also after I learned new F2L algs, should I try and start learning Full OLL?
I dont think full OLL is necessary until your averaging probably around 15-16. But then again the earlier you learn it the more time you give yourself to nail in recognition. :)
You don't need it, but it doesn't hurt to learn them. I recommend learning them slowly over time. Maybe 1 or 2 a day.
kangaroux do you solve using roux?
Can people with short fingers still do these finger tricks? Especially the M moves?
Yup!
cyotheking Really? Do you know anyone with short fingers that can solve the cube fast?
Yes I can and my middle finger is only half the size of a spacebar key and I can sub 1 H-perms. Also chris on Z-perms hold the adjacent edges on the other side as you would if you do right hand M' moves and do.
M' U M2 U M2 U M' U2 M2 trust me it's much faster than M2 U M2 U M' U2 M2 U2 M'
Loving your videos and also when or will alg of the week come back and if it does I suggest the triple Sune ZBLL case.
This helped me a lot!
im really struggling with the d2 with either hands anyway. i can do them but i think my fingers arent flexible to do it efficiently.
Chris will you be bringing that cube to Dixon Fall and if so can I try it?
Have you ever used lube for the cube in this video ?
You didn't show the U finger trick where you push the top layer with your left index finger from the front.
Tom smaxzii I had text that mentioned it during the B moves.
Oh okay, my bad!
Shengshou fangyuan any good? Btw, awesome video
Speedcubereview has a vid on it. It's pretty good, though quite fast, so you might wanna tighten it.
zion panz not compared to other cubes. Thunderclap is better at that price range IMO.
I don't know how to do the F' with your left index finger. I have a lot of trouble because I cannot to it with my thumb in the front so I just regrip and do it. Please help me
Cylo i love this video
I heard a rumor that if you are early Chris will reply
Just a rumor...
+cyotheking What.
Waiiitt
"Cause it doesn't lead to the rest of the alg very well" *does the alg regripless*
Is the Cubicle Labs Weilong GTS M your main? Please reply Chris I'm counting on you!!!
He doesn't really have a main at the moment, he is switching around between lots of cubes.
It's like inbetween the GTS M (ain't got any time for writing that name) and the Thunderclap, and some other cube I think.
K! Thanks!
Really one of the most important things for speed cubing are long and thin fingers. I unfortunately don't have long and thin fingers and feel the burn of not being able to speed cube.
noice got the valk3 m?
standard.
slow mo sections are done using a Valk 3 and the rest is the GTS M
Hi cyotheking, please tell me what you think is better-
Kungfu yeuhun
Or
Moyu Weipo
cubicle weipo
Yuehun is more flexible and fast.
Weipo is more controllable and slow.
hi I'm right now a 2min and 30 sec cuber and I don't think I can get any faster with my method what do I learn next?
I have a lot of trouble with ring-pinky D2 any tips?

Ravin Marokef check out J perms Intuitive F2L video
Nice man but it doesn't work on my cube what should I do?
which is the fastest method of solving 3*3 cube ? roux ,cfop , x cross or zz ?
Preference it depends
the beginning song is tobu right
How did you get so fast at the cube in general?
can you make a video of speeding oll algorithms.. please..plzz..
This was a cool video i just wish i had a magnetic speed cube, mine is so hard to turn using one finger.
I use my right pointer for the end of t-perm. Is this OK?
