When covalent compounds dissolve in water they break apart into molecules, but not individual atoms. Water is a polar solvent, but covalent compounds are usually nonpolar. This means covalent compounds typically don't dissolve in water, instead making a separate layer on the water's surface.

    H.W. Question :
As solubility of covalent bonds depend upon the polarity of the substance and the solvent and polar substancesare soluble in polar solvents, and non polar substancesin non polar solvents,
Covalent bonds are non-polar in nature so they do not dissolve in water, which is a polar solvent.
But covalent bonds dissolve in non-polar solvents as covalent bonds are themselves non-polar substance.
Hence, we conclude that Covalent bonds are insolube in water and soluble in non-polar solvents.

I would be grateful if you'll answer it 💛

    • @supadhyay7614
      @supadhyay7614 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I may not be accurate but while covalent bonds are stronger because the 2 atoms involve sharing of 2 or more outer shell electrons, it holds all of the biomolecules together.
Ionic bond on the other hand completes transfer of electrons between elements to form a stable compound.
The measure of energy to break the bond between elements can be used to determine which bond is stronger.
LONG CUT SHORT: COVALENT IS INDEED STRONGER, because it requires more energy to break

    • @falgunikashyap7320

    Home work question
1)Water is a polar solvent, but covalent compounds are nonpolar. This implies that covalent compounds don't dissolve in water and make a separate layer on the surface of the water. Hence we can say that covalent compounds are insoluble in water.
2)Non-polar solvents cannot dissolve polar compounds since no opposite charges exist and the polar compound is not attracted. It is this absence of partial charge that also makes these molecules “non-polar”. Some of the examples of non-polar solvents include hexane, pentane, toluene, benzene, etc.

Unlike ionic solubility, covalent compound solubility cannot be determined by a table. Instead, structures and three-dimensional shapes must be drawn. Once a correct geometry has been determined, the compound would be classified as being polar on nonpolar. Polar species are soluble in water, while nonpolar species are soluble in oils and fats. Covalent solubility uses the like dissolves like rule. This means that substances with the same type of polarity will be soluble in one another. HW Answer -- Covalent compounds are non good conductors of electricity and water tends to break apart the bonds but due to covalent bond it is not possible to break up bonds and as ma'am said like attract like that is why covalent compounds are soluble in non polar solvents like acetic acid, chloroform, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride, and pyridine.

    Hw ans
:Covalent compounds are soluble in non polar solvents...
Covalent compounds has covalent bonds ..therefore they have low polarity.
But insoluble in water since. It is A polar solvent..😗
    Thanku mam ..session was amazing😁

HOME WORK Q:Water is a polar solvent, but covalent compounds are nonpolar. Therefore covalent compounds don't dissolve in water and make a separate layer on the surface of the water. hence covalent compounds are insoluble in water.

    Very amazing session.
My hw ans: When covalent compounds are dissolved in water they dissociate into molecules, but not into ions. Water is a polar solvent, but covalent compounds are nonpolar. This implies that covalent compounds don't dissolve in water and make a separate layer on the surface of the water.

Homework Answer : We must know that the covalent compounds are held tightly because the atoms in the covalent compounds have strong intramolecular bonds. Covalent compounds are less-polar so they are soluble in non-polar substances like ether.
Loving Chemistry just because of you ma'am 🤩🥳🙏🏻
Thankyou so much Annu mam 😘♥️😍☺️😊

AG mam session was amazing. Honestly speaking guys this chapter is easiest in whole world.
Homework answer :- Polar species are soluble in water, while nonpolar species are soluble in oils and fats. Covalent solubility uses the like dissolves like rule. This means that substances with the same type of polarity will be soluble in one another.
