He shows that he did this tutorial with a small green screen outside... but we creative types like thinking of excuses for NOT doing something to avoid failing.
This is yet another highly-enjoyable tutorial. I have seen other car/greenscreen lessons that were fun for basic shots, but this one added the nuances that separate hobby from pro. One of the new things that I enjoyed learning (that can be used for ANY greenscreen) is your keylight method. I also appreciate seeing "extract" being used.
Hey, thank you so much for the detailed comment! That really helps me to find out if my tuts are too detailed!! I will keep them exactly like that!! 😝😜
This is one of the most helpful videos I've ever seen in my life. I was missing all of those additional steps to bring my car green screen scene to life. I would have never known. Thank you so much!!!
Just got past 2:30 in the video and I subscribed straight away due to your good humble attitude and knowing already you actually know what you're talking about! VERY INTERESTED in this and you bringing this to us is EXTREMEMLY APPRECIATED!!
Actually, these car tutorials along with the train tutorials and the roto masking in the dinosaur tutorial are sufficient for putting live human in cg cars / trucks etc. Thank you again.
Wow. i just actually discovered your channel and found it very useful for my upcoming project. Thanks to TH-cam algorithm. You made it easy to understand :).
well you simply choose parts of the image with straight lines! If there aren't any visible, you can use for example parts that would be connected with a straight line. For example the same edges of the both side windows.
Yeah, the front shield is really tricky... most VFX shots simply put stuff on there, like buildings and trees, but if you really watch what would happen, you would mostly have sky and clouds, and they would almost not more at all... so I am with you: really hard to get that right...
Good stuff. Thanks! Quick tip - no need to go into the graph editor - just right-click on the position to bring up the context-dependent menu and "separate dimensions" is 3rd from the top.
Haha. Thanks for the tipp! Just found it out the other day, while attending adobe MAX! But thanks a lot!! Comes in super handy!! But: is there a way to bring them back together into one keyframeable parameter?
@@flo.motion Yep! Right-click on one of the dimensions again and you'll see there's a checkmark next to "separate dimensions." Click it to turn it off and it goes back to a single array parameter again.
Man i just love your videos. Your calm way of explaining stuff is just so nice. I like videos like video copilot but he just so quick I often end up getting lost. Don’t change a thing 🙏🤘
Immerhin bietest du hier ja alles kostenlos an!
This was a really solid tutorial. Been on the look out for a green screen car tut that is convincing with all the extra details like caustic lighting, shadows etc. I’ll definitely implement the workflow into my own videos.
Honestly? No real reason! But I like to precomp all my footage, in that way I can for example change the timing or do some noise reduction within the precomp, without messing up my main comp!
Didn't expect from you to have been working on UMBRE ( Shadows or The messenger or whatever it's called in English ), there was some really high quality VFX. Nice job!
Really great tutorial, i appreciate it alot. I personally know premire pro sorta well and know next to nothing about after effects. I have been working on this passion project for a while and i keep coming back to this video to try making the car scene better and better, however i wanted to know your opinion on if i should switch to after effects for a shot like this, because although it looks good i do have to work around certain things since im doing it on premire. just wanted to know your input, and thank you so very much again bro.
That's a perfect tutorial 😎😎 thanks alot bro!!! I always really enjoy watching yours tutorials ..it's too much use full for us. ...this is one of my best TH-cam channel. I really gain too much knowledge from your videos..once again thanks alot. .and bro may u pls upload this footages for us ?...for practice
Hey! Thanks a lot for your feedback and nice words! The reason why I mostly don't upload footage is because I want you to film it on your own! That's why I always explain how to set everything up! Even with a smartphone in some cases! And believe me: you will learn way more when you shoot it for yourself!!
excellent work but since you had to do the countryside shot anyway perhaps you could have just closed both windows and apply an attachment for the camera to the right hand window. seems to work fine for me. you might have to bring up the light in the car to match the outside light. make sure the window is very clean.
Hey, right! BUT: that's not the case if you shoot a move. For example you have one day where the actors can be in the greenscreen studio, or wherever you are shooting. (Because actors are expensive) So you want to shoot all scenes in one day, and that could be countryside. CIty, morning, midday, night. SO normaly you have a small camerateam filming all the scenes in advance and then you save money as you don't have to bring actors, light, sound, director, dop, producers, and so on to all those different locations... and: there are locations that do not exist, or you have to remove stuff from the BG, or add it in later. And I once shot with an actress, and she didn't even have a driving license. 😜😝
@@flo.motion what ever works for you is ok. when i work for a feature film money is not an issue but when i do my hobby short films i have to pay for them myself and my means are very restricted so i use the cheapest option available. a car attachment by the way replaces a second tracking vehicle and it is much more accurate. also as i mentioned earlier, i understand very little about visual effects so i tend to use the mechanical option which is my field expertise.
Thats amazing breakdown, mate. We are embarking on a short film production, need some easy way to do lots of in car dialogueso nteh way, this is the way to go, very helpful!
I was legit convince you were really driving in the opening shot. Fantastic work!
Thank you so much! That is the best feedback you can get!!
Wish I had a old factory where a can install a 20 meters green screen😁
Just drape a 10x20 over da car
Me too!! As you see in my video, you only need a small green screen, and you are good to go and get shots like this done!!
@@flo.motion it's a humble request..... Please upload more nuke tutorials.......
My dad owns old cinema

This actually looks better than in most shows/ movies 🤔
Thanks a lot!! 😆😆
It actually does tho...

Thank you so so much for the kind words Lilypop!!
This effect was done better than most blockbuster movies. It was literally perfect! Great work man.
Oh wow... well what shall I say... it is all in the details...
Really? That keying will at best pass as a slap comp in a real movie studio.
Just got past 2:30 in the video and I subscribed straight away due to your good humble attitude and knowing already you actually know what you're talking about! VERY INTERESTED in this and you bringing this to us is EXTREMEMLY APPRECIATED!!

Pure gold! Loved this so much. Thanks a lot for your great work :)
Thanks for liking!!
@Chez Pierre! 😁😄
Actually, these car tutorials along with the train tutorials and the roto masking in the dinosaur tutorial are sufficient for putting live human in cg cars / trucks etc. Thank you again.
So true!! Thanks a lot for the feedback!!
This actually looks better than car scenes I’ve seen from bug production movies.
Thanks so much!! I hope you have not seen the old productions i was involved with... 😋😝
This is probably the best tutorial for anything that I’ve seen. So thorough and so easy to understand. Fantastic, thank you.
Wow!! That is such a nice comment!! Thank you!!
The series that makes it obvious it isn't real is The Bing Bang Theory.
what shall I say... true
On my momma they barely tried on the car scenes in The Big Bang Theory
That show sucks.
Thanks!
Woho... thank you sooo much
Dude! Amazing tutorial! Really useful information from the person involved in film making VFX. Thank you for your channel ;) good luck!
Thanks for the nice comment!! I really hope it helps all of you out there watching my tutorial. Try to make them as informative as I can...
Oh the extract tool! Wow… I’ve never used that for glass reflections. Thanks man!

He indeed is a super cool person and super professional to work with!!
My goodness, your voice are so soft and gentle!
ahhh... well...
Wow, crazy attention to detail.
That's how you do a shot!! add 1% of this detail and 1% of that... repeat that a hundred times and you have a 100% perfect shot!!
tbh, Man this is more professional and realistic than some movies in my country
haha... where do you come from??
Indonesia
Better than some car scenes I’ve seen on TV recently.
Haha... but that is indeed not that hard to do!!

Thanks a lot for your nice comment!! I am really happy now!!
In my early videos I just used green paper in my windshield, and they turned out very well.
Haha... me too... once I had a shoot and nothing green, so we went into the supermarket and bought green gift wrap. Not the best, but it did the job!!
