I find it amazing how much people argue with the teacher over meaningless stuff.

Thomas Paine I couldn't teach that guy all the time the way Nick does. The way he argues points to the same conclusion that was just explained is so annoying.

the very fact that you are taking a class means that the teacher is stronger than you, so why not be quiet and learn something?

      Thomas Paine I know right?

He may be a little annoying to us internet people, but I find "making the teacher prove it to me" a great way to learn things. Even if you know you are going to be proven wrong, you still learn about why.
I think these classes are mostly for the small group at the Go center, we just get to enjoy as a bonus.

elsjaako I agree with that. The only problem is: he doesn't appear to do it for that reason. In fact he seems to believe the teacher is wrong. Most times after Nick explains it, he just sticks to his guns and believes he's still right.
I'm sure people in the class feel the same way as the YT viewers as well.
      Especially playing with him.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. This really helped me so much. As a beginner I didn't understand why my bases get destroyed. Now I know, when I have to answer. So many questions answered.

I really love this sort of content from Nick. If it was another Go channel it probably would be too basic for most players to gain much. But because Nick has human interaction an otherwise VERY basic topic becomes interesting and educational. It's like the "is water wet" debate. Doing a lecture arguing that water is wet would be pretty crap. But a debate on whether water is wet or not can teach you much because it's not just about water and wetness. It's about reality and language. Likewise, this session isn't just about bases. It's about assessing the need to respond, spacing, eyes, defense, invasions, etc. from the springboard of bases.
So, again, perfect sort of content for your channel, Nick. Cover basic topics, and allow the presence of your students to add depth and complexity

I'm moving to Seattle in a couple of weeks for a new job, and looking forward to being able to attend your classes. :D

      Hi Heath!
Be sure to get on the SGC's e-mailing list (directions should be at the website)!

Nick Sibicky directed me there just to see you're taking a vacation, just as I'm getting to town. :D
But good to know there will be a substitute, otherwise I'm iffy if I'd be ready for Andrew's class (I'm maybe 12k).

Thanks for making this video, Nick! I didn't have a really solid understanding of what a 'base' was before this other than that stones with a base were safe unless you took away their base (which is really hard to do when you don't know what the base actually is). I also didn't realize that the classic 2 space base could be attacked quite so severely when you had strength elsewhere.

Hey Nick, I just wanted to say that your game with Yunxuan was great! Good job. Hope you continue to participate in events and after-game discussions like this.

3:00 "What does black do?" -- NIck
    "PANIC!!!" -- Me, initial answer
"Play the 3-3 so white can't invade?" -- Me, answering after some consideration
Yes, I am a DDK. Thank you, NIck. I need lectures like this! :D

Amazing how these guys manage to ask such stupid questions after attending your courses. I think you react very suave even tho they kinda act disrespectful at times. Alot of players could make it from 2 digit to 1 digit kyu with this lecture alone.
Anyways, thank you for the lecture, I feel like every lection I watch brings me closer to finally reaching 1dan. Keep up the good work

Hey Nick, I think the L-R audio is swapped. Whenever you look left the audio seems to be coming from the right :P (when a student is speaking)

Yeah...I caught that as soon as I finished compiling it, but I decided not to redo it since my previous attempt at rendering actually crashed. Something buggy is going on with my computer. I hope it's not too much of a distraction!
