  • Starting a brand new video-series with this one: Robo Philosophy, where I give you tips and tricks that help me both on and off the airsoft field.
    In this first instalment, I'll cover all that I pack for going to a milsim event. I'll cover my methodologies and through processes, as well as the actual equipment I take to ensure I'm effective in the field.
    Check it out.
    Hope you enjoy! Please let me know what you think in the comments below!
    Want me to cover a concept? Tell me!
    Coming soon: Gear reviews: Inforce WML/APL, Salomon XA Forces 2, and LALO Bloodwing and Zodiac Recon athletic shoes. More BH4 gameplay to come, as well!
    Hope you enjoyed!
    As always, if you dig these videos - help me make more: like, share, and subscribe!
    Support your local airsoft scene!
    Play airsoft safely and responsibly. Always carry your weapons in a gun bag and never brandish them in public. Remember - LE officers don't have the time, and will not risk, checking if you're holding an airsoft weapon.
    ALWAYS wear ANZI/Mil-Spec approved ballistic eye wear.

    • @buschacha
      @buschacha 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Rich Amar TSA has guidelines on bringing firearms onto flights on their website, the short version is: yes you can fly with it, but it has to be in your checked luggage in a locked hard sided case. No grenades or CO2 canisters allowed at all. And make sure you’ve got orange tips on everything. It also doesn’t hurt to call the airline ahead of time to see if they have any additional policies regarding airsoft guns.

    Robo, as an active US military member this was a good video. Logical format and distribution of gear. As new airsofter looking at MilSim to augment my own training this a was great video with really good/logical ideas. Keep'em coming, you're doing an awesome job.

      +Vodka2051 Thank you very kindly for the words of encouragement! I try to do things as logical and helpful as they can be - whether that be HOW I apply my skills in airsoft on the field, to how I think about things off the field. If it helps others - that's the track I want to be on.
      Thank you for stopping by to give me the feedback, and to watch the video! Thank you for your service!

    A tip if you want to protect your stuff a little bit more while flying, particularly stuff in hard-cases, try your best to make it seem like they're musical instruments, it might not seem like much but I've known a few baggage handlers who say the only thing they actually treat gently are musical instruments.

    An important note for everyone with zipper bags!!!! Locks do not matter. You can stick a pen between the zips to open it up, whatever goes into a zipper bag is easily accessible to a thief - I'm unsure on workarounds, but keep this in mind before adding a lock and thinking it's foolproof.

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Locks aren't useless in this case - it's about understanding how that technique works. 1) Locks are about deterrence; 2) thieves only will bypass locks if they know it can go undetected. As I said previously - it's about understanding that theft technique: it works because you can split the zipper in the middle with a pen and open it all the way around. But - people do it only when they can drag the zipper again from one far end of the zipper to the other, closing it again. No one does this technique and leaves the bag open. To defeat it - you just need to lock the zippers in the middle of the bag, to something ON the bag. In the case of this bag specifically - it has zippered pockets on the front of the bag which you can lock the main compartment zippers to, thereby making it literally impossible to take the zippers to either end of their track, by a long way.

    • @yeyetimmyboyox
      @yeyetimmyboyox 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. Most people won't think of this when they see a lock that intimidates them, as you say its a no-brainer deterrent.
      However, if someone suspects you have expensive goods in the bag, they may be willing to compromise on certain aspects of their usual behaviour (desperation, amongst other factors, could play a role).
      Of course a lot of situational dependencies take point here and I doubt someone is going to do this on the tube, or with it next to your person.
      But it's definitely worth mentioning for people who didn't know how easy the internals of a bag can be accessed unless it's hard shell, such as your gun case!

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure. But at the same time, locks on bags are generally for when you're doing air travel, and it's over the concern of some airport employee opening the bag and swiping something before you ever get it returned to you and/or the time it takes most to notice something is gone. The chain of custody for bags at an airport are such that if someone has to forcibly open your bag (say by compromising the zipper) without being able to close it again, it's an IMMEDIATE security risk, and will be dealt with by airport security immediately in kind. Hence why I said, if you lock the zippers to the middle of the zipper track, it makes it impossible to use that technique and get away with it. As long as you do that - baggage locks are actually quite effective. Doesn't mean some dumbass thief won't try it...but willing to bet they'll get caught immediately because they're a dumbass.

    I agree with everything but when I fly I NEVER put on TSA locks. That gives them the opportunity to go through your stuff with out you there. With them being locks TSA doesn't have keys to, I have to be present for them to look through my case. This happened to me just a couple months ago on my way to Milsim West.

    • @robomurrayairsoft

      +kitkatkieklak Generally just different BDUs. For most milsims (minus say Milsim West)...the rules only apply to your uniform (tan/green/other)...equipment on top of that, doesn't matter. You can be tan - wearing DCU camo...and wearing black vests, etc.
      The difference in the case of MSW events...everything matters when it comes to what side you're on (NATO or Russian), as it all has to be faction specific.

    This is how you pack if you are driving, but NOT if you are flying. If you are flying, always have any magazines or guns in your primary gun case. This will make it easier at customs.

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sterling Heinz In this bag, with my equipment - it's a pretty big number. Mostly though only because of the quality of the equipment I eventually started buying, as time went on. There's probably a couple thousand dollars worth of stuff in that kit bag at anyone point in time.
      The thing with Airsoft though - it doesn't need to be worth that much; it's just my preference currently. You can fill a kit bag with just as much stuff - the same equipment pretty much - and not have it cost so much; you just have to buy the right brands etc.

    I'm kinda thinking if that suppressor wasn't in the gun case you'd be able to very snugly put in an mp5k or something of similar size. Just for shiggles.

    Once you have all of your gear, how much does a milsim event cost you on average??? including flying, food and beer....

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Generally I find it ultimately depends on 3 things:
      1) The number of days/length of the actual mislim (which usually ties into...)
      2) The "features" of the milsim...does it have high production value, or is it just a giant skirmish.
      3) How far away it is in terms of travel (travel, lodging, and food costs can be a killer).
      On average - a milsim is generally around 8-16 hours, with longer ones being 18-48 hours.
      The longer it is...the more money. Shorter ones can cost as little as $50...with longer ones costing up to and around the $200 mark.
      Unfortunately there's no one-size-fits-all price. Just depends on what you're looking for.

  • @sggee

    Robo, question for you regarding your weapon and optics in a case. Although not an airsofter, I am a Paintballgear using a rap4 468 (ar15) and was considering cutting the foam for my case with my optic on the marker although not as layout efficient. Do you think that it's ok not to, I see you haven't. Paintballing not as accurate as Airsoft zeroing optic may not be a huge importance. Thoughts?

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shane Gee You could get away with having it in the original box or similar inside your pack. It definitely needs some sort of protection, as you don't want to damage the laser/led on the inside due to shock. And actually - I do carry my optic in the gun case (there's a spot cut out for it in there; always has been).
      If you don't have the original box, try to find a small cardboard one, and put some foam in there. That would do the job.

    Awesome video! What camera do you normally use to film your videos, if you don't mind me asking? Oh and one thing I don't think you mentioned was a speed loader, but that's pretty obvious :)

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chris Kuehl Don't mind the question at all: For my first-person stuff - I use a GoPro Hero3+ Black, and for my static filming and photography, I use a Canon Rebel T5i (which was used for this video).
      And ya - I forgot to mention some small things in the overview, like Speedloaders and things like that. Also forgot to mention the mesh masks I take (one that rigs up to my helmet, and one standalone for when I'm not wearing a helmet).

    • @bacon25strips
      @bacon25strips 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robo Murray Airsoft Wait a sec, I thought the T5i only does 30fps at 1080.

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Kuehl Yup - that would be its limit. I still export at a standard 60 fps but it down samples so it doesn't go all slow motion :P TH-cam still recognizes it as "60 frames" though - so you get that labelling.

    • @bacon25strips
      @bacon25strips 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay I see. Also not to be annoying, but do you use an external mic for videos like these or just the one in the camera? Thanks Robo, it's awesome that you take the time to answer everyone's questions in the comments.

    • @robomurrayairsoft
      @robomurrayairsoft  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Kuehl No worries haha. Ya - I do use an external mic. But honestly - it's just a cheap lapel mic from a Best Buy :P
