  • The Nikon F3 was introduced in 1980. In this overview, you'll learn about the F-mount and why it's awesome. You'll also find out about all the interchangeable backs, viewfinders and other parts that made the F series great. I'll walk you through all the functions of the camera, and cover a few of the flaws. As always, we'll look at the history and legacy of the the camera as well.
I decided to do this overview or review in advance of the rumored release of the "Nikon DF." This is allegedly a retro-styled, full frame DSLR. Nikon has been teasing it with its Pure Photography ad series. The camera is supposedly modeled after the F3, but from what I can tell, it looks to have a little FM and FE thrown it, too.
There two things I forgot to cover in the video.
First, there is a small tab in the 1 o'clock position of the lens mount that can be pulled out to use really old Nikon lenses. The F3 was the last camera to support metering for so-called Non-AI lenses. This means the F3 can use the full range of Nikon F-mount lenses, except the newest AF-S lenses, which are also called G series lenses.
Second, there were other versions of the F3. There was an F3T which was titanium clad and looked amazing. There was also an F3P, which was specially released for press photographers. It featured better weather-sealing, a special HP viewfinder, some bigger knobs and was built to pretty much always have the motor drive attached.
This is another dissertation length camera overview. There are plenty of short videos and looks at old cameras. I want my videos to stand out and be the definitive resource. If you like this videos, please support them by subscribing.
Please leave me comments with any questions you may have and with any recommendations you have for future videos. Thanks for watching and keep shooting!
