Same here. It was also the same when Daniel Johnston died that I discovered him. Late but glad I did.

John , I believe used the Travis Style picking, only using his thumb and index finger while picking
That might be. I have not analyzed his right hand thoroughly. I transcribed the notes he played, and provided my best estimate of the easiest way to play them. Mississippi John Hurt played mainly with thumb and one finger, and Lightning Hopkins too. Mostly it is effective, but it actually makes some faster riffs harder to play. Merle Travis usually used thumb plus two fingers.

I stand corrected. The "Travis Picking Style" is often two or even more fingers. I learned it from Chet Atkins lessons. But when I go pack to actual Merle Travis videos, in fact he was thumb plus one, as you have described! And a wicked player too!
@bonarsmusic01 From what I understand and see after watching Mr's Prine and Travis, they're style comes from the small town Coal Miners area and that keep it simple way of moving on the fret board. Keep up the good work !
