    A lot of people will of course, offer jokes and sarcasm. For me, I appreciate that you made this video and ran down the up front, and on-going fees. Of course, it is a lot, and out of reach of many/most people. Still for those seriously thinking about it, or fools like I, it is important for those who might have one and interesting for me.

    Fella, you don't have a crew salary on a jet like this. 9 out of 10 are owner operated.

    • @anthonyvallillo422
      @anthonyvallillo422 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      For the most part, not until the owner has spent anywhere from 20-100 or more hours flying with an instructor in the right seat. This is an insurance mandate, and will of course vary depending upon the experience of the owner as a pilot. A retired 747 Captain would probably be able to skip most or all of this tutelage.

    • @nunyabusiness896
      @nunyabusiness896 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@anthonyvallillo422 Not only that, but they need about $100k+ worth of the flight time to meet the basic qualifications to even begin flying it. Even if I was a multi-millionaire with cash to burn I don't think I'd want to put the time and effort in just to do boring straight and level flight in a jet you can't even sightsee in. Just let a pilot fly you around and sip your champagne in the back or take a nap.

    • @fermitupoupon1754
      @fermitupoupon1754 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@nunyabusiness896 I don't think that in the grand scheme of owning a plane like this, with a reasonably estimated annual cost of about 500k in taxes, maintenance etc. Spending 250k on training is going to be the issue. Sure it raises the buy-in cost from 2 to 3 million, but for the target consumer that doesn't strike me as a problem.
      It's also not likely to be someone's first plane to buy, so they probably have a couple hundred hours in a C172 or Bonanza.
      If you just want a pilot to fly you while you sip champagne in the back, just fly private charter and dispense with the whole ownership part of the plane.
      If you're going to buy a plane like this, you're probably going to want to fly it yourself and it's probably less about sightseeing and more about range and speed at that point. I mean it cruises at 300KTS at 23k ft. You're not gonna be sight seeing from that altitude anyway. Besides for the target market of this kind of plane it's in no small part about status. The fact that this thing can be used to take off in the Hamptons on a friday afternoon, refuel and dinner in the Florida Keys and get to your private beach cabana in the Carib that evening, is probably a big selling point.

    • @nunyabusiness896
      @nunyabusiness896 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@fermitupoupon1754 The first lesson is to understand you can't buy status. The Vanderbilts went broke trying to do that exact thing. Rule 1 of life: fuck what anyone else thinks, they're not worth the hassle.

    Cirrus SF50
    Pax: 7
    Engine: 1
    Max Cruise: 311 kts
    Ceiling: FL310
    Range: 1266 nm
    Price: $1.8-3M

    Pax: 4 +1 (right cockpit seat)
    Engine: 2
    Max Cruise: 370 kts
    Ceiling: FL410
    Range: 1125 nm
    Price: $2.2M

    Pax: 6
    Engine: 1
    Max Cruise: 330 kts
    Ceiling: FL310
    Range: 1730 nm
    Price: $4.2-4.6M
    I know the TBM is a little bit "apples and oranges" here but I thought I'd throw it in just to show aircraft that are similar in size and performance. I do have some "cringe" issues with the fact that a turboprop is faster than than one of these jets and it has a greater range than both of these jets. The early Cessna Citations used to get picked on for their underwhelming performance specs. They were called "Slow-tations" and "Nearjets" as some turboprops like the Piper Cheyenne 400LS could beat up a Citation 500 on the schoolyard. The only "plus" factor for these light jets is maybe the price. The Eclipse, having 2 engines, has a faster cruise, of course. Both jets beat the TBM in terms of cost. If I was in the market and currently in a turboprop or a high-performance piston and I really wanted to get into a jet, I wouldn't bother with these jets. I would go straight for the Embraer Phenom 300E. Otherwise, I would stay in the turboprop and wait until I was able to make that move. The old adage applies: you get what you pay for most of the time. But to each their own.

    The Cirrus VisionJet was purchased out of the bankruptcy of Eclipse Aviation which pioneered the “million dollar jet” market with the Eclipse 500 but couldn’t deliver on the price it contracted with hundreds of buyers to build its 6 pax twin engine jet. The Eclipse 400 sat in the showroom in the hangar at Albuquerque Airport - a beautiful red mock-up of the fuselage with the V-tail and Williams F-44 engine perched at an angle just like you see it today.

      Please state your source for this. The SF50 and the ECJ were being developed at nearly identical times. Cirrus started the SF50 concept around 2003, unveiling it to the public in 2007. The ECJ first flew in 2007 just before Oshkosh that year and the SF50 flew a year later. Eclipse didn't file bankruptcy until 2009, a year after the SF50 first flew, so how could the SF50 be purchased out of the bankruptcy of Eclipse Aviation?

As the comments above suggest 9 out of 10 owners are pilots, it can cost quite a bit more for owner pilots than the video suggest. You need to make sure your broker is in touch with the market and can get the most competitive premium because it can balloon without getting multiple quotes.

    I too, am an A&P mechanic, and find great humor in the looming collapse of aviation as we know it. People, specifically those who consider themselves pilots, don’t realize that the third leg of the aviation triad, is disappearing at a frightening rate. Mechanics such as myself, are calling it quits, and there is no one filling our shoes. The kids today that have come into the field are generally useless, more interested in their cell phones than the task at hand. I was asked by an overly smarmy pilot/owner the other day when he would be able to get his sky toy in for an annual. My answer was simple and fairly accurate, NEVER! That’s how bad it’s gotten and will continue to deteriorate.

      Well as an A&P you couldn't do an annual you have to have an IA (Inspection Authorization), unless you do happen to have that. But I am a 20 year old getting my A&P in 6 Months, so I will be the one filling in your place, and trust me, I barely ever look at my phone, and I take my jobs seriously, there isn't no slack here.
      Edit: You can do 100 HR Inspections though.

    • @cameraman1909

      first, you need to get your private pilot's license, which can cost upwards of $12,000 in the end, and then a bunch of certifications. In fact, A pilot "license" is actually a certificate.

    My own opinion is if you can afford, almost $2000000 dollars for a private jet then you can afford to run it!!
    Anyway, I've just purchased one of these for £20.99 (for Microsoft flight simulator 2020) :p
    Liked and subbed :)

      Add another $13,000 a month to that for the loan, so total would be around $2400 an hour to operate.

    PS: I do remember when Cirrus was still developing it, it came with X-Plane 9. Granted I didn't fly it that much as I flew the doomed Verticopter more (yeah I bet you didn't expect to hear about that lol), but the SF50 is a great little plane.

    Not a pilot, but I have seen the stats on this plane, and I’m really wondering why anybody would want one. Admittedly, I could be wrong, but it seems to be one of the most inefficient jets on the market. Slowest climb rate, slowest acceleration with one of highest fuel consumption rates. I don’t get it.

      Well, range is only 1000 knots and top speed is 300 knots, so you're only going to be flying about 3 hours per jump. I think most people can handle 3 hours between bathrooms. You'd also want to get out and stretch every 3 hours anyway, the roof is only like 4 feet tall so you can't even stand up in there.
