It is from a Disney musical! It’s the villain song from The Hunchback of Notre Dame. VoicePlay are the theatre kids of acapella and they shine there (and in all of the other genres they tackle). Really enjoyed! I am so happy you’re enjoying VoicePlay; I love them.

Given the huge popularity of acapella bands (VoicePlay, Home Free, Straight No Chaser, Pentatonix, etc.) it still amazes me that none of them receive any radio play. I have to think it's due to the stations having such narrow parameters now (i.e. all rap, all hiphop, etc) and the acapella bands can't fit in those pigeon holes. Thanks for playing this & your comments. P.S. - If you haven't seen Home Free's originals "Remember My Name" and "Playing with Fire" you're missing out!
Since you were interested: Voiceplay and Home Free did "Survivor (Zombies vs. Hillbillies)" a while ago, plus Tim appears in Voiceplay's "Just Sing". Also, in regard to Geoff's voice: if you like to listen to audiobooks, on his own channel Geoff does both individual (sort of) music videos and story narrations.

I love Voiceplay as much as I love Home Free. Their vibes are so very different yet equally satisfying to my ears. Each group is comprised of incredibly talented vocalists! So glad you’re diving into Voiceplay on the channel as well. Geoff (the bass) has a huge range, and the performances on his solo channel never disappoint either. He just released his cover of “Jack’s Lament” from Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s amazing.
This is by far my favorite version of this song, no contest. Some other fantastic Voiceplay songs include Nothing Else Matters, and Hoist the Colors. Geoff's cover of Sixteen Tons is also brilliant
There are so many great covers of this song. Probably because the original is so Epic. It's one of the best Disney villain songs out there. And yes, also very disturbing lyrics. The movie itself is very dark for a kid's movie, though still not as dark as the novel. I recommend looking up the scene from the Disney movie. Not only is the man's low voice with the choir perfect, but the visuals are beautiful and haunting all at once. Alan Menken's music for that movie is phenomenal. I highly suggest checking it out!
I just looked up the Disney version for another reactor so I thought I would add it here. www.google.com/url?q=www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3D9Gs0p_Dcbzc&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiU4s3G-f2BAxVqJjQIHfEND7sQFnoECAEQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0xFsVj5yZKq_jcNp-hrC97
Even when they don't add at the end, it's worth the listen. They put out a karaoke track for their patrons, and that's what they've been using for the last while on the outro. A great way to hear the harmonies better. They are a great group for anything. I'll recommend their version of In the Hall of the Mountain King. An orchestral piece done acapella. Really. They create a trollish story line that is brilliant and hysterical. Trust me. Or the one just before this was Drunken Sailor. You ain't heard nothin' yet! Check the credits and you will see that it is all them. Thanx for getting to this, I've been checking for it for days!

If you're ever in doubt or wondering something about a VoicePlay or Geoff production, the description box is your friend. (And thank you for waiting for the patron screen.) Looking forward to more! 😁
Older now, however Home Free and Voiceplay both were on sing off at the same time. They had a zombie vs hillbilly to survivor colab on voiceplay's channel
Just a tip: when you react to Voiceplay, take a look at the description of the video, it'll tell you where the song is from (as far as I know all their songs are covers), so you don't have to spend the entire reaction wondering about that, or why the song has a certain feel to it. The description also contains other information you might find helpful, like the credits for the video.
There are good reasons why people call Voiceplay the theater kids of acapella. 😉 Since others have already told you where this one came from, let me just offer a few recommendations: Nothing Else Matters, Dream On, and Seven Nation Army for rock covers. We Don't Talk About Bruno or The Little Mermaid for more Disney. Oogie Boogie's Song or Geoff's recent solo Jack's Lament, since you mentioned Nightmare Before Christmas. Drunken Sailor for just unhinged hilarity.
I see exactly what you mean when you said it sounded 'Broadway'. This song is very much a performance. It was a performance in the movie, and it's a performance in the play. The character of Frollo is a man who hides behind a particular type of mask, so we get to see the beginning of this song as his performance as he speaks about how righteous a person he is. That mask and performance cracks and falls away and we get to see how truly horrific he is, not because he lusts for a gypsy, but because he refuses to believe he's the one in the wrong, that it's Esmeralda's fault he feels the way he does. And the final parts of the song are especially telling because he shows that rather than taking the chance he was given to let her go, he decides that if he can't have her, no one can. "Choose me or your pyre, be mine or you will burn." It's what makes him such a terrifying villain, he could be the dude down the street...
There are a lot of great Halloween tunes to check out from VoicePlay and Geoff's solo channel. Geoff's Headless Horseman and The Monster Mash are both fantastic and fun. His cover of Jack's Lament is also awesome. VoicePlay has Hide and Seek, Oogie Boogie's Song, This is Hallowen and In The Hall of The Mountain king, just to name a few.
You were right that it’s Disney as others mentioned. They do have a different feel than the other groups and it’s what I love so much about them. I love the theatrics! On top of everything else they have to offer. Brilliant arrangements, amazing voices. ❤. You should watch this again without pausing to truly enjoy it. 😅
Nice reaction! I love people experiencing Voiceplay, especially when they're fairly new to them. I pretty much only watch reactions to Voiceplay and the bass, Geoff Castellucci. I will tune in any time you do theirs! Please keep doing VP and please do Geoff's solo stuff!
Voiceplay have done a Lot of disney covers. To continue with them, honestly almost all of there covers are outstanding, so I'd say just pick one that peaks your interest and go for it
This is from Disney’s retelling of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. It is probably the darkest movie they’ve ever made. I watched it just because of the song and found extremely disturbing although it’s mild compared to the book. It is the story of a “pious” man tormented by the fact that he simultaneously desires and resents the beautiful Esmeralda. That early portion suggesting the Norte Dame church bells tolling reminds us that he was a high ranking member of the church. The conflict drives him mad. There is a point just after “burn it” where he looks at his hands as he’s singing “this fire in my skin” as if he is confused by his mania. 🔥🔥🔥 For contrast, listen to the background while J, second on the left, is singing. Geoff is doing these little bubbly arpeggios in the background. For further contrast, here is the Disney version : th-cam.com/video/9Gs0p_Dcbzc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-ab_42be99WLCeaC
Nice to see so many fans using my #TheatreKIdsOfACapella. Not only VoicePlay on this channel. We need to see Geoff Castelluccis' Low Bass covers from his channel. Geoff has the perfect voice for this Disney villain The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Geoff just released JACKS LAMENT from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Shows more of his range.
I enjoyed your reaction and subscribed in hope for more VoicePlay and Geoff! I just wanted you to know that VoicePlay always put credits in the description for the video, so you can see who’s done what. It’s usually, but not always, the same people throughout. Usually the arrangement and therefore also the video is done by Geoff (the bass) or Layne (the beatboxer), the lighting by Eli (the tenor), camera work by Andy Montejo and the final audio mix by Ed Boyer. When elaborate makeup is needed (like in Valhalla Calling) Rick Underwood helps them, and when they need prosthetics as well (Hall of the Mountain King and The Dragonborn Comes/Skyrim) Renette Feren helps out as well. Geoff’s wife is the production manager. And that’s the crew they need. They’re incredibly creative and talented! In addition, Cesar (the baritone/tenor) brings the coffee, but this usually isn’t mentioned in the credits ;-)
You wouldn't initially think of this one for Halloween since it has nothing to do with pumpkins or ghosts, but it really is a bit terrifying, and VoicePlay's version is even worse (better). Can you believe it was in a G-rated movie? Thanks for the fun reaction! Others have made good suggestions for spooky season, but if it's after October when you get back to them, I'd recommend "Phantom of the Opera" if you're looking for something quite different (even for them) or "Carry on Wayward Son" if you're in the mood for something focused almost totally on the vocals. Because I didn't see anyone else specifically say it yet: All of VoicePlay's songs are covers, though due to their eclectic choices many of them were new to me at least!
I am old and rarely listen to what is popular music nowadays. But I have discovered all kinds of new artists just because of them. And I have discovered the amazing genre that is video game music. Started with Dragun born and has not ended.
They have a lot of fun Disney songs... 'We Don't Talk About Bruno', 'Moana Medley', 'Little Mermaid Medley', and their Nightmare Before Christmas stuff is always amazing! 'What's This?', 'Kidnap the Sandy Claws', 'This is Halloween', 'Oogie Boogie Song' and also this year Geoff Castellucci came out with the new one 'Jack's Lament' and that one is absolutely gorgeous if you think he has range in this one go check out Jack's Lament - geoff will blow your socks off!!
You make me laugh, Chris. Aladdin riding by on his carpet - LOL! Geoff has incredible range and control, but I liked hearing the others in this song. Great reaction, again.
even if they don't do anything extra in the patrons... watch it anyways... because 1) helps them more 2) you get a section of the karaoke version so you get to hear the background vocals more 3) yes they have some behind the scenes shots and they add more things like messages sometimes yes this is disney cover form Hunchback of Notre Damn since you mentioned you like Disney and Bass singers ... The Bass Gang (4 bass singers) have released 4 disney songs in the past 4 weeks.. this is there vol 3 releases... up until this point none of them had met in person... 3 managed to get together for this in the Czech republic.. the 4th could not get a visa so he had to film his parts from his home of Egypt
Funny you should mention Les Miserables! The novels on which Les Mis and Hunchback of Notre Dame are based were both written by Victor Hugo, so it's pretty cool that you were able to pick up on the similarity in theme and subject matter despite one being a Disney cartoon (albeit an unusually dark one) and the other a very serious drama. (As a side note, I happen to think Hunchback is criminally underrated, though i do understand why; Frollo is one of the most terrifying, despicable villains in any work of fiction, and while the Disney adaptation changes the story enough to give it a happy ending, it stays remarkably true to how he is depicted in the book.)
Great reaction - I think you know by now that it IS Disney! One tip, put the captions on (unless they are auto-generated!), you would see the Latin phrases sung in the background, they often add fun comments too..! VP often put a part of the 'karaoke' track in the outro, Geoff will often have something extra on his...!
They've covered several songs from the movie "Nightmare Before Christmas", they did a cover of "Friends on the Other Side" ( from "The Princess and the Frog") and a cover of "Hide and Seek" ( a VERY spooky song) that contains several nods to Disney's Haunted Mansion.
Geoff(Jeff) has a 5 octave range. Another person who does reactions and analysis went through the last 3 "she will burn" and said that those last 4 words he drops over 3 octaves. Which, of course he does because he's Geoff. 😂
Very cool. I just reacted to Jacks Lament that drops on Halloween and I was trying to figure out how many octaves he had, and 5 sounds right based on what I just witnessed. Thanks!
Voiceplay has done several songs from Nightmare Before Christmas and as mentioned, Geoff (the bass) just released "Jack's Lament" on his solo channel. And as others have mentioned they have other Halloween stuff as well. Geoff also has several narrations on his channel and a video describing how he arranges for VP and a couple about how to sing so low. His sense of humor shines through in those videos.
Would you believe it is Disney? Hunchback of Notre Dame with the most evil villain in Disney film. Geoff dropped Jack's Lament from Nightmare Before Christmas. Survivor: Zombies vs Hillbillies (VP vs HF), and my favorite Halloween treat: In the Hall of the Mountain King (Edvard Grieg 1875).
Ptx might be the kings of Christmas but Voiceplay rule Halloween. Anything from Nightmare before Christmas, hall of the mountain king, hide and seek are epic this month
Do the words Alan Mencken mean anything to you? Layne arranged this for Voiceplay, but Alan Menken wrote it for the Disney movie Hunchback of Notre Dame. Although I’m sure Layne would be flattered. He and his partner Tony Wakim do write original music, just not for Voiceplay. Don’t worry, it’s tripped up many reactors. You could make it up to me by reacting to one you will certainly recognize: Hall of the Mountain King. No words, but Layne uses makeup, set, and costumes to tell the story. Hear the music - and voices - change each time something is added to the cauldron and it is tasted!
Just discovered your channel (freaking out about you being a complete newbie to VP - always great fun to watch!) and I cannot wait for your first reaction to Geoff's solo work! Maybe you wanna give "Jack's Lament" a decent try, it's his latest masterpiece and really shows his vocal and musical abilities!
He's supporting you guys since the very beginning I believe. I'm watching every single video for almost two years now and I can't even count how many times he mentioned about you. You guys should think about sponsoring this man! Lol 😅
Great reaction. A bit of the karaoke track is at the end of this one, sometimes it's a remix or a bts .Frollo is probably one of the most evil of Disney villains. This one is in their ACA Top 10 Disney Villains Medley along with the ones they've already done from it "Friends on the Other Side", "Oogie Boogie Song" , Ursula's Poor Unfortunate Souls in their "Little Mermaid Medley" and "Cruella de Vil" .People have been asking for "Hellfire" for years... Also they've done 4 songs from Nightmare Before Christmas over the years (you can see them blossom) and Geoff's new one is #5 Edited to add They have an entire Halloween playlist.
There is a voiceplay and home free song zombies verses Hill Billy's survivor enjoy it. (Was going to be a sing off song but they never got to do it so joined together to do it.) Tim also pops up in just sing.

Sorry for being so late bud, looks like I miscalculated when to wake up, lol 😅 Correct me if I'm wrong but this low voice singing dude gotta be an alien or something. You just can't have voice like that and be a human at the same time... you just CAN'T!... 😅 Hope you're doing great my friend. Thanks for sharing your smile with the world 🙂😉 Loved the reaction of course!
His name is Geoff (pronounced like Jeff) and we VP fans have come to the conclusion that he is either an alien or a dragon in human form. Always love to see new VP reactors!
Yes, start reacting to VoicePlay and your numbers explode. As a Brit I haven't heard of the product you appear to be pushing and never will, I imagine. Not everyone watching in in the US. VoicePlay are known as the theatre kids of a capella, because of their theatrical perfomances. They are actors, as well as singers and Eli, for instance, is also a voice over actor. This sets them apart from other a cappela groups. This song is in fact Disney,, it's from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Geoff has a five octave range in fact. Check out his channel of low bass covers. Geoff Castellucci. Arrange. that's the word you wantetd, I think. This was one of Layne's arrangements (the beatboxer) but Geoff is the other main arranger for the group.
Ohh, talking about hot... I like to eat something hot once in a while but I've never tried hot pepper itself. I've found a little box of habanero while doing groceries couple weeks ago. It had a "Really Hot" warning sticker. I picked it up because I wanted to try it. I ate the whole thing right after I got out of the store... at first I wanted to run back in there and buy some milk but then I started to ask myself why the heck have I done that... and it made me laugh. I ate couple more since then because I like that burning for some reason, lol 😅
I would like to point out that as of now when I found it... your reaction to Valhalla calling is not in your Voiceplay playlist. Might be helpful to rectify that😂

Disney yes, Aladdin definitely not...Hunchback is _dark_ and much less fanciful (and more horrible) than any other Disney movie I can think of. It's almost more in line with a Don Bluth film like Anastasia or The Secret of NIMH.
The arrangements are usually done by Geoff or Layne. They are BRILLIANT arrangers!

If you're ever in doubt or wondering something about a VoicePlay or Geoff production, the description box is your friend. (And thank you for waiting for the patron screen.)
Looking forward to more!
Since others have already told you where this one came from, let me just offer a few recommendations:
Nothing Else Matters, Dream On, and Seven Nation Army for rock covers.
For contrast, listen to the background while J, second on the left, is singing. Geoff is doing these little bubbly arpeggios in the background.
For further contrast, here is the Disney version :

Thanks!
This is why we call them the theater kids of a capella lol
Hehe. Disneyesque he said?!
Our guys excell at Disney stuff. They worked in the Disney and Univeral parks in FL. when they were younger.
Nice!
Voiceplay and Homefree actually did a video together a while ago. They did the song Survivor by Destiny's Child
There's that smile! You and Karol made my day😊
Hi 👋🤗❤️
@@that_averagetyp❤
💛
The feeling is mutual my friend!
You make me laugh, Chris. Aladdin riding by on his carpet - LOL! Geoff has incredible range and control, but I liked hearing the others in this song. Great reaction, again.
Thanks so much!
even if they don't do anything extra in the patrons... watch it anyways... because
1) helps them more
2) you get a section of the karaoke version so you get to hear the background vocals more
3) yes they have some behind the scenes shots and they add more things like messages sometimes
yes this is disney cover form Hunchback of Notre Damn
since you mentioned you like Disney and Bass singers ...
Well said! Thanks :)
Thanks!
It is from a Disney musical. The Hunchback of Norte Dame.
Voiceplay and Home Free did do a song together and a video called "Zombies vs Hillbillies"
Check out the Bass Gang. Peter and friends are great also. This song is from Disney’s treatment of the book The Hunchback of NotreDame.
There's a reason VP are known as the theatre kids of acapella lol.
You had me yelling at my phone while I watched. Sure sounds Disney!!
That totally fits!
Yes, Alan is a musical genius!
Welcome to the rabbit hole of VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci. I can’t wait till you see discover their humour 🤭🤭
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the support!!!
He's supporting you guys since the very beginning I believe. I'm watching every single video for almost two years now and I can't even count how many times he mentioned about you. You guys should think about sponsoring this man! Lol 😅
lol, Thanks Karol!
Glad you enjoyed it! If there was one product everyone should try is your product line. No flavor stands out from another. Incredible stuff, guys!
@@larryshair 😉
Thanks so much!
Halloween... they did some of Nightmare before Christmas check out Oggy Boogy, Geoff shows off his outrageous range on that song.
There is a voiceplay and home free song zombies verses Hill Billy's survivor enjoy it. (Was going to be a sing off song but they never got to do it so joined together to do it.)
Tim also pops up in just sing.
Hi Cutie

Sorry for being so late bud, looks like I miscalculated when to wake up, lol 😅
Correct me if I'm wrong but this low voice singing dude gotta be an alien or something. You just can't have voice like that and be a human at the same time... you just CAN'T!... 😅
Hope you're doing great my friend. Thanks for sharing your smile with the world 🙂😉
Loved the reaction of course!
Thanks bud! Yea, where the heck did he pick up that voice??!!!
@@larryshair you better ask where the heck he parked his UFO, lol 😅
Voiceplay is known as the theatre kids of acapella
You paused right in he middle of the word Esmerelda, where I was willing to bet you would have twigged where the song came from!!
It IS from a musical! The Hunchback of Notre Dame! By Disney! LOL
Thanks for the comments!
Layne Stein, the beatboxer does alot of the arranging...
😅 You are crazy. In a good way
@@louisebacka if that little story made you smile, it was so worth to feel that burning 😊❤️
I LOVE the super hot sauces. Man, I'd put hot sauce on a PB&J sandwich!
@@larryshair Bro! You're putting way worse things on the PB&J sandwich!! But I've tried your recipe and it's pretty good for some reason, lol 😅
You need to try Geoff’s new song Jacks Lament from the nightmare before Christmas it is just Geoff Castellucci but is awesome ❤
Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame song.
I would like to point out that as of now when I found it... your reaction to Valhalla calling is not in your Voiceplay playlist. Might be helpful to rectify that😂
You mentioned „Nightmare before Christmas“? Please listen to Geoff Castelluccis „Jack‘s Lament“ !
They're not called the "Theater Kids" for no reason.
You should really check out No Love by Eminem and Lil Wayne
Check out Oogie Boogies Song!
VoicePlay is known as the theater kids of the acepella. World. They have done stuff with Home Free. This song is from a Disney musical cartoon, The Hunchback of Notre Dam. Geoff (pronounced Jeff) also has a channel of solo stuff and he just released his cover of Jack's Lament, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Jump down the rabbit hole that is VoicePlay, you will not regret it.
Geoff castellucci Jack s lament song do please
Disney yes, Aladdin definitely not...Hunchback is _dark_ and much less fanciful (and more horrible) than any other Disney movie I can think of. It's almost more in line with a Don Bluth film like Anastasia or The Secret of NIMH.
Like Voice Play but this isn't one I'm not a fan of. Voice Play has better songs.
I am not sure how anyone couldn't not like this one like... O.O?!
