Listening to the genesis of "In the Light" reminds us how truly great Led Zeppelin was. Their outtakes and discards are better than any modern day band's best effort...Flu Fighters et al.
I can't say which one is better, both are killer. I love how you can hear them shaping the song into what they recorded for the album: Bonham's drum fills for example are a lot similar to the final version. I hope they release this when they do the remaster/deluxe edition of Physical Graffiti.
I found it on Limewire about 5 or 6 years ago, really, by accident, but it gets more and more awesome everytime I listen to it!! message me if you want a copy on cd..we will discuss =)
i still love the original... but man great find! Its like pink floyd demo's (immersion etc.) i am shocked that after 40 years this stuff still remains hidden and unreleased. Thanks to file sharing!!! I can see businessmen and artists various legal bickering that prevents this awesome artistry from being released.. Imagine so many outtakes and alternate versions must have been recorded and remain somewhere... someone will make a killing releasing it after artist dies.
Absolutely THE best LZ song --- not too popular but fantastic. Sounds pretty authentic to me --- like the Lucy in the Skyesque melody... awesome find!!
John Paul Jones composition. Amazing. Plant greatest vocalist ever, Page one of the greatest guitar players of all time, Bonham greatest drummer. The planets were in alignment when this band was formed.
Bonham was such an amazing drummer! As someone said earlier, I wish LZ would put out a compilation of alternate takes and demos like the Beatles did with their "Anthology" discs.
Got the Remaster Issue today (2 days prior to release - a smile in the record store sometimes works wonders) - this version is included - absolutely great.
Holy crap! As if the the track on Physical wasn't stomp down magnificent enough...Jaysus Hoobastank Christ that plinkity plink organ juxtaposed w/ Pagey's ragin' an Plants howlin' vox. Freakin' outta the goddamn park man! Too fucking much, too fucking much...
Am I the only one to think that the demo is ten times better ? It would be perfect for a tragic sequence or a horror one or a plot twist. Anyway it sounds better than the original to me.
When I hear this rare gem I feel like I am back in the weird drug-soaked 70s having blurry, dreamlike visions of strange rituals at the Boleskine House while teenage kids listen for hidden messages on a black, vinyl disk spun counter-clockwise across the needle.
wow i like it way way way way more than the original!! JPJ's tune in the bggning is incredible ... its creepy almosy sounds santanic.. now i understand how they sacred people in there time.. its so powerful
I have this and other "Physical Graffiti" out-takes on cd, was given to me by an old guitar teacher 10 years ago. Truly amazing stuff, the drum track sounds to be the 1 that ended up on the album. The organ work is JPJ at his best, creepy stuff! The cd I got is full of cool versions of P.G. songs. 1 of them is Page layering guitar parts for "Ten Years Gone", he'd record 1 and play back while recording another over it. You can actually hear the "tape" rewind then he does another etc. Hear it grow
Sounds like something that would have been on Zoso. Just goes to show the ability Zep had, being able to play a song different ways. Wouldn't it be great If Zep could somehow scrounge together all these rarities that exist. I know there's Coda, but that just scratches the surface.
For some reason, when the guitar kicks in I'm reminded of Queen... But yeah, this version is absolutely superb, though I wouldn't hazard to estimate a preference over the eventual release. I need to scour the internet for more Zep bootlegs...
This is just AMAZING! What a huge drum sound, spooky, with great vocals and alternative lyrics, Zep easily is the greatest band ever.
This is so eerie and awesome. I wish they put this version on the album.
Best version ever! Haunting and hopeful.
And raw, shows how talented they were as musicians
No drummer ever had a swagger like Bonham's, the fucking greatest drummer ever!
Favourite version all my life - so happy it made it onto the remaster

Baal Zephon reincarnated wizards they are

Led Zeppelin is the greatest band of all time in the whole history of the Earth.
i'll take a double album of demos and outtakes please :3
i still love the original... but man great find!

This version is much more sinister😈

That intro sounds like something you’d hear in an old point and click adventure game
this version is much more sinister!! Whoa! Is JPJ using the "demon" key on this arrangement???
Got the Remaster Issue today (2 days prior to release - a smile in the record store sometimes works wonders) - this version is included - absolutely great.

love this version
Like a whole new Zep tune. Great discovery. Thanks!
best version
I found it on the web with a file sharing program..
I like this so much more than the version on Physical Graffiti.
Very interesting.
I'm glad there are two versions of this. I like both. Play one then the other. If my wheels are sinkin low...
never heard this before, pretty amazing
Spectacular. Multidimensional Visionaries
Am I the only one to think that the demo is ten times better ? It would be perfect for a tragic sequence or a horror one or a plot twist.
Anyway it sounds better than the original to me.
OMG!! Like he said, " i wished I had this on my Ipod".... very coooooooooollllll..............
This version seems cut from JP Jones' kids mini piano. + exceptional.

In the light is my favourite Led Zepp track. This gives me an alternate version of an awesome song. :)
Bonzo!!!
Polyphonic brought me here.
I thought I'd heard every version of every Zeppelin track be it album or bootleg but this one escaped me
I found it on Limewire 2, don't have it anymore. Thanks for the post!
Hall of the Mt King progression.

That's just plain fun ... Thanks !
And now is that Version on the new release of Physical Graffiti (2015)!
I like the picture of the gentlemen.
this is the best version ever
I'm glad I got to hear this version, and think it is great as well, but I still prefer the album version.
Yeh and imagine if they had actually produced this version. This is so raw. Id love to hear how mastermind Page would have produced it.
WOW! is this version erie! lOVE IT!

This is great!
The in the original are weaker, THIS IS AMAZING.
Do you know what awesome feels like? Well, let's just say it feels like this song.

Full blown gods of rock.
For some reason, when the guitar kicks in I'm reminded of Queen...
But yeah, this version is absolutely superb, though I wouldn't hazard to estimate a preference over the eventual release. I need to scour the internet for more Zep bootlegs...
FUCKIN' Wicked AWESOME
love the demo but this really sounds sped up. I think the tempo is probably the same as that on PG.
does anyone know how to play this piano part
Better much?
Tried to find this on limewire...but was unsuccessful.
Anyone know how I can get this song?
manos the hands of fate!
v I meant to say The drums in this one are better. v Where did you get this Goon?
NOT this version...that's why it called a DEMO
this is great. but the final song is EPIC.
Such a touch of evil in this.
cool name Goon!

John bonham! So damn good!
Really cool, but the other is one of my favorites of all time, nothing compared to this one.
