This is so great. I planted a peony two years ago and it never has done well. I have horrible rocky clay soil here in Georgia. I just thought about digging it up and potting it. Great to know that was a good idea!
This weekend it's going to be so nice here in Virginia. I will be working on my raised vegetable garden. We just moved in a brand new house and I have no landscaping. It's kind of sad and a bit overwhelming. I left years and years of plants behind at my old house 😑 but I have been watching so many TH-cam videos to help get me inspired. thanks for your video 😉
I couldn’t agree more. In a new home in Va as well and planning our new landscaping. Had plenty of 20+ yr old plant material to appreciate at our last house, so looking forward to a new canvas. Thanks for the no nonsense approach in your videos Jim.
I am in zone 9a wish me luck on my peonies 😂 I’m trying to get those gorgeous blooms. Your video helped me feel better about what I just winged (I saw this video AFTER I planted).
I live in the UK, and would like to know if I'm OK to prune an old rhododendron, how would i do it? and when would it be best time of year to do it,? it's in a big container at the moment.
Hello Jim! Tell how they did I’m trying to find a pic on your IG to see the progress but can’t find it, I’m really interested to plant some peonies in pots but I’m little scare. Thank you!
Hey great stuff....Quick question...I am about to transplant 2 Camellias ( I think Japanese) to the side of my house to get them out of the sun. They are 1 or 2 seasons old. How far from or should I plant them near my foundation on the side of my house? Thanks again!
Hi, Jim, I picked up a bag of peony tubers at a wholesale club last week to try starting them off in containers, as you suggested. Usually the peonies I've purchased have about 5-6 eyes, but these were so inexpensive that I wasn't surprised to find they are smaller. There were 4 tubers in the bag.-Two each of 2 varieties. The tubers are small--about 2 or 3 eyes each, so I thought I'd plant two of the same variety in one pot and the other two in another pot. Is there any reason why each must go in its own container? I planned to grow them all summer and just surround them with some small annuals that enjoy sun. I'll be able to keep my eye on them and feed and water regularly to keep the pot looking pretty all season. Long term, I will likely plant these out into garden beds this autumn. Thanks in advance for any advice!
You know what? I have *never thought of planting peonies in a container. But now that you have shown me the light, I plan to pick up some of those inexpensive ones at the box store and giving them a try. I hope for blooms. Then I will have to figure out if I can store them in the containers over the winter or not because I have no more space for peonies in the landscape.
Both Big Leaf Rhododendron and Peonies are deer resistant. Thanks for watching

Can you do a follow up on the peonies that you grew on the container? Thanks!!!

Any update on the peonies?

Thanks for watching. I started completely over here last year after pulling out twenty year old plants. It's amazing how a little at the time adds up.

not realistic for everyone, but id probably rent a moving truck and bring just about everything that fit, including some of my soil. lol
Grew up in Requa and Klamath CA. on the mouth of klamath river...the redwoods are full of Rhodies..gorgeous when blooming......
I'm sure that was great. Our mountains here in North Carolina are covered in giant stands of them.
Beautiful!! I got out and planted a tree form vanilla strawberry hydrangea yesterday. Cant wait to see what it looks like in the landscape.
I just planted a bi colored Camellia in a big pot for the back deck. Soooo beautiful. 🏵🌸
The two tone camellia japonicas are the best this time of year
I just get one root. Live in zone 8. Can I planted right now in spring in a container?
Can I plant Nova Zembla in pots permanently? The low temperature in winter can freeze a flowerpot into ice, will its roots freeze out?
Thank you so much for the reply.... Also I have a gas meter over there too but if they are not invasive I should be good... Awesome channel!!
I have some potted peonies, but would like to repot them in something larger. I live in zone 7a. Should I do it now or wait until the fall?
So for peonies mix soil with pine bark?

I'm in zone 9b so wish me luck too. Hope your babies bloomed and are thriving.
Hey Jim. How would you transplant them in clay soil? The same way with potting soil or with perlite? Any soil conditioning?
Beautiful
Love your videos. Thank you
I love them , i planted them last fall

Yes!! How are the peonies in your pot and how are the ones that you planted in your yard?? I would love to see how they’ve grown.
They in today's tour video near the end
How to repot peonies. I bought them last year in a pot and had bloomed. I just want to change the pot. Any suggestions ?
put in a new bigger pot, make sure the growing part is just at soil level not buried.
Would rhododendron s grow in less than 2 hours of sunlight
no not at all they need at least 6 hours of direct light. and bright indirect light the other times.

They aren't aggressive rooting plants really. I had a big yuletide camellia only three feet from my house that I transplanted in a video last year.
Great video. Can the peonies stay in a pot forever? Or need to transfer to ground when the growing bigger?
I wish people that put out videos would take the time to answer questions from viewers!
I answer lots everyday. They come way faster than I can answer them. I have a question and answer video every Sunday as well.
yes but you would probably have to divide it when it fills the pot

My understanding is they have a large root ball that needs roo to spread out.
Can these be planted in south Alabama?
They are much more heat tolerant. I would certainly give them a try in a part shaded area
@@JimPutnam Thank you! I will try to plant these this Spring. 😊
I bought 2 yellow peonies today....can I put them in a pot and leave em there forever??
yes
@@jewel.s.journey thank u!
oh and there is a gas pipe meter there too....would that be a problem?
Weird buzzing noise in the background
Noticed it too. Thought it was just my ears ringing again but realized it was the video. lol
@@TD-vb6il Maybe his light is about to go. Reminds me of the florescent bulbs.

I hope you can come back and show some progress here for those of us who don't partake in Instagram.
