What are you most nervous about regarding applying to medical school?

I'm most nervous about my research hours. I'm a 2nd year swapping from pre-nurse to premed. I have really good academic stats, but I have to work full time. I'm super fearful that I won't get any or much research at all because i'm also behind on my prereqs. I'm really hoping I can maintain my 4.0 and get a good mcat in the future while working. And most of all I hope medical schools can understand my circumstances with not having much research.

@@colbypyles3831 Hi, I hear you. I work with students working FT every cycle and there will be opportunities to showcase who you are, your values and your intellectual curiosity on the app. Also, you want to think about what type of med school you will seek out...more community medicine or research heavy programs...for the former it will be less of a factor for the latter, you will need research. So you still have time...you can also get creative and see qualitative, research through a class. I recently had a sociology major who did a research project at the hospice they were working at...not technically in a lab but still important investigations. Wishing you lots of luck!

@@WriteYourAcceptance Thank you so much! And i'm definitely weighing the options of spending my undergrad working in a clinical setting ( as i currently am ) and then doing research during a gap year. I think the benefit of the clinical setting is that I could network with physicians for shadowing, letters of recommendation and get my clinical hours in. Then I could work in a research position during my gap year to compensate because I think this could make my application very competitive. It's a little disheartening to take a gap year but in the long run, what's 1 more year (not much really)? Would you have any insight into this? Thank you!

@@colbypyles3831 YOu are thinking about all the right details and seems like you have great perspective. More and more students take a gap year for a myriad of reasons so if you do end up taking a gap year that's totally fine. The career (and even the application) is a marathon. Only thing I would say is that if research is the only, only thing holding you back from applying and everything else is strong and ready, you might not have to wait to apply, but like I said it depends on the types of schools ans their focus you will be applying to.

you'll need a bachelor's degree with upper division science courses so you can start at a community college but will need those requirements
