My family and I will be in London coming from California and my 2 kids will be performing with the High School Marching Band in the London's New Year's Day Parade. So excited to finally visit this historic place, walk the streets, soak in the ambiance and taste the foods. How does one deal with rainy days there? We're hoping the weather wouldn't spoil the parade, but rain or shine the show must go on.
That's so fun, enjoy the parade! One deals with it how they would everywhere else that has rain I guess-- just bundle up and have a sturdy umbrella ;)

I've been to the New Year's Day parade! That was when I first moved to the UK ten years ago for my postgrad degree. Partied all night with a bunch of uni friends at Ministry of Sound, got back to our halls of residence for some sleep, and then went off again in the morning to the parade! It was fun, but I think we were too tired to take much in, tbh! :)

Hi Jess, I went to the New Years Day parade this year.... there were some good bits but it was waaay too long! & looots of American school marching bands. They were great, but it did get boring after a while. If anyone is thinking about going, I got a great spot towards the end of the parade route which appeared to be less crowded.
Love the addition of the bloopers to this video haha.

Yep, I'll be in London for NYE! Already got my ticket booked for a party in Soho & I can't wait! Now I just gotta figure out what else there is I can do around the city on New Years Day aside from the parade haha

We were there for Christmas/New Years last year. On New Years Eve, since we didn't have plans during the day, we did one of the bus tours around. It was a big mistake for us. Roads started to get shut down early and we circled by the same sights 3 times before deciding to just get off. Thankfully it was near the end of the tour and we had a local friend with us who knew where we were and where to go.

I'll be in London NYE this year...I'm excited! Flying all the way from Southern Cali! I already have tix for the fireworks just in case, but looking for a river cruise or something else that will let me see the fireworks but also provide entertainment. Any suggestions?? No need to worry. Just give yourself extra time to get where you need to go.

Born and bred Londoner here. We take the kids to the parade EVERY YEAR! (Ok, one year it was pissing it down so we avoided it, but it’s still great).
Also, most museums and restaurants all all open, so nice day out.
(As an aside, NYE tickets for clubs are notoriously incredibly overpriced and without exception a pretty awful experience....)

Hello is there any way to watch the fireworks from a close range without the tickets and there’s no way we can get tickets? Because it’s sold out and do they re-sell more tickets.
Apparently if you go super early you can try to get a spot on one of the nearby bridges.

Thanks Shane! Most bars, pubs and clubs will have a ticketing system and most will probably have sold out by now but you might get lucky.

Coming to London right after Christmas and our students are going to be IN the parade. Felt you had lots of pix from the event, but then snubbed it. Kinda weird if you ask me. Looks like you've missed out on a fun event. Will let you know how our grand stand tix work out. BUT wondering where you can see the fireworks from in the city. Like in NYC you can see them from many places. I'll keep looking.
Hi Molly... it's just a joke, because myself and everyone I know are always too sleepy to make it to the parade (in fact a ton of Londoners don't even know that it's a thing!) That's great that your students will be in it. Good luck to them. As mentioned to be able to see the fireworks clearly you need to get tickets (which are now sold out.) Apparently if you head to one of the bridges early you might be able to get a free spot on one of them.

Hey Jess. I know lots of things are sold out or are selling out quickly for NYE 2018. I found some places who are throwing parties. These places have mixed reviews. Could you tell me if you have heard anything about them? New Year’s Eve Spectacular at Southbank Centre at Royal Festival Hall, NYE at London Sky Bar, or the New Year’s Eve Thames Cruises. I’d appreciate any extra advice you had!

So I've never been to these particular Events but as a Londoner I can tell you that the London Sky Bar will have great views of the fireworks and i'd bet would be a good event. The Thames cruises are great too, bu I think they get quite packed. Like I say, i've never been to either, but I have seen the cruises at Christmas and they look so much fun.
Alexander thegreat Thank you so much for your information. I saw it before NYE but forgot to comment. We ended up going to a park in Greenwich to see them. Was it the best view? No! We’re there small fireworks going off around us? Yes! It was fun and there were tons of people there to enjoy the moment with.
Love and London No problem. It was a long shot but I’m glad we ended up doing our own thing and ended up at a park to watch it.

I read that those ticket for the fireworks event are sold out :( :( ..... I bought plane tickets with my family and we have the acomodation too but now we can't go to see the fireworks ... so sad :( :( :(
yeah they sold out for this year! They always sell out super fast. Lots of other things you can do though :) I always watch them on TV anyways ;)

No, they're at the London Eye
The best thing no question about it are the fireworks I mean every year they get better and better as the pyrotechnics are specially fit in with the great edited sound track and this year the theme is about eroupe and will have a eruopien theme to it . Nyd is also my bday so I stay up till midnight every year it just amazing

I'm pretty sure most of the spots that you can watch with a good view will be ticketed. Or you can get tickets to certain clubs and restaurants that will have views.
