Found your site a week or so ago. One of The Very Best!..thanks so much for sharing your skilled experience. Clear, no music, excellent camera work. I've learned some tips I hope I'll remember. Keep them coming
Great video. Mirrors many of my own thoughts. SPIDERS... that's the one that got me. Building a metal bed frame for my truck. Don't want any crevices for the bugs. TA!
Thank you very much. I welded with a stick welder for many years, then went to MIG and I believe learning to weld with a mig would be the best way to learn. I wish you the best.
Thanks for this video Gavin. Im midway through my first welding project and without a drop saw Im no chance of finishing the 90 degree corners with a mitre. Going to cap them like this instead. Cheers mate.
What a pleasure it is to learn by watching your content. I think after watching this lesson might be able work out how to make a flush/slightly recessed weld on nut (i just need to buy the welder 😅).
That last one with the wood plug; go down to your local welding supply shop and ask for some "hardwood rods" then you can weld that plug in there. Just a thought, no need to thank me. Nice video thanks.
Depending on the application lots of times I only weld the corners and dont run a weld all the way around and since the jobs aren't going on a space shuttle its plenty good enough.
Great video! Useful pointers for sealing a boat trailer I’m making. Some pour oil in before sealing I believe. Do you think that wood option would keep the water out if submerged?
In the long term the answer is no, but it will keep it out as long as the paint you paint over it seals it in. Boat trailers get a tough life, put underwater then dragged out and left all day in the sun, If you weld a plate over the opening it would be much better. Hope that helps a bit
when cutting flat 1 bar keep your cut as close to the vice as posible this cuts down on viabration and makes your cutting disk last longer 2 keep the grinder geerdrive away from the vice alowing for step 1
@@GavinClarkdiy yeah. I worry about that too. I’m not used to all this that’s going. Came here from London, UK. It’s looks a bit crazy to me. I’m in south Florida. It’s a bit more relaxed down here. Be good and take care. Waiting for next vid. 🍻
Personally I do #3. I think it looks best. Kind of like you cut through solid square bar. You're not shaping either, you're just leveling the weld to the two pieces of metal.
Hi Julie, I am surprised you don't weld, that would be the one missing thing in your renovation skills, I can't wait to see your house, you have done so much work on it. I don't know when we will get over there, but I am hoping it will be before the end of March. Looking forward to catching up, thank you for your comment.
@@GavinClarkdiy Friction welding is a pretty amazing thing to watch...steel spinning on steel, glowing redhot, melting then welded! I've always wondered if one could do this with a mag drill and suitable insulated between the jaws and the fastener (I have one - they are frigging strong and perhaps the only thing I have that could maybe do this...but its expensive, so I don't want to risk it). What about aluminium, wonder if that can be friction welded? Better look up friction welding on yt :)
@@MiniLuv-1984 I have watched friction welding on youtube, I agree an amazing process, and some massive shafts getting welded. I can't imaging that we could be doing it at home even on a small scale, need lost of pressure pushing the bits together too as well as spinning them. A very interesting thought. Thanks.
Yes you are right, I left the plastic ones out and the galvanized ones you buy for fence posts, both do the job they were made for, but I like making sparks and belting things with my hammer, and those two would be no fun. Hahaha Thank you for your comment.

very useful how to close the hole / end of the hollow pipe. greetings friends

Think the wood end caps would be able to support casters for tables under a 1,000 max?
It would not be something I would do. I think it may have a problem if you are pushing it and it hit a bump.
Great video, very helpful thanks

What kind of wire welder is that mine doesn't work nearly that nice!
