Costello was Cohen's legal advisor when he was being prosecuted. He's been saying that Cohen's story is an outright lie for years.
Mechan was faced with a credible witness (federal prosecutor), contradicting Cohen's whole story that his case is based on.
He should have done some research.

When did Trump ever follow through testifying when he said he would?
He does not have to testify. That's actually one of our constitutional rights. And why put yourself in a position to be cross examined by TDS biased, anti Trump prosecutors? Attorneys can ask simple yes/no questions that are actually trick gotcha type questions. Also we humans have the right to change our minds about all kinds of stuff, right? What good was Costello, the judge did not allow him to talk nor did that judge allow an expert witness on elections to let everyone know there is no election crime whatsoever.
He didn't allow the cult to mock his court .The defense never had such a witness and an election "expert" would not ever testify as to whether or not this was a violation.The irony here is that Maga has proven that nothing he does could ever change their minds.Funny really.Hes going to prison for something that wouldn't have made any difference at.He could have taken the stand,but I'm sure you can think of a million excuses why he didn't. The ugly reality in cases such as this, is that the key prosecution witnesses are almost always insiders who carried out criminal acts in concert with the accused. Nature of the beast. Criminal fraud trials usually involve criminal witnesses. The job of the prosecution is to provide corroborating evidence that aligns with the testimony. They clearly seem to have done that. Cohen's criminal past is no different than any other case where an underling turns state's evidence against a crime boss. Ergo, to acknowledge Cohen's criminality inescapably brings up the fact that he routinely committed his crimes as part of his employment by the defendant.

I think its because the trial is a joke. A misdemeanor past the statute of limitations is somehow twisted into a felony based on a crime that wasn't committed, which isn't even within the court's jurisdiction. It makes 0 sense.
