The one thing made me not watch dota2 tournament at all since 2022 is because some tournament organizers are just plainly bad at managing the tournament and Valve did not do anything about it and even give the TO more tourney to handle. Some Dota casters already pointed this out, but some is pressured to silent, which was not a case in the early scene of Dota tourney, in which community still has a voice. I take that as Valve slowly move away from its ideal.
The demography has changed over a dacade. I went from living alone in a studio to owning a house with wife and kids. Hence the little time I have is goping to be played rather than spectating.
9:28 wait a sec. Parker is really good ok! but generational talent? based on what? 1 good tournament run? Prime Sumail, Mith Lakelz, iceiceice, SG Meracle and even Ramzez was considered a prodigy for a time, now those are examples. I will even rate K-1 hector in his prime higher than current Parker. I'm not saying he would stop improving but let's not get ahead of ourselves, there is a reason why Secret is the one that pursued him and not the more relevant teams in dota rn
Agreed with everything you said. I hope Valve will take your points to heart. I can't help but think of the esports scene in terms of that Spongebob episode where Squidward moves to a place with other people like himself, absolutely blown away at first, but with time becoming fed up and wishing to go back to his former life. This is what it feels like to be a dota2 fan in 2024.
This was a good video, I'm glad to see you upload again. Especially now that I don't play dota but still enjoy the content it's good to see this type of video
If the TURBO mode has a faster queue than your flagship ranked queue, then there is something wrong with your game. Battle Pass is dead which means less prize pool for TI and other events (except middle east events). Collab is dead. DotA2 used to collab with other valve games, or even non valve games like FF7 or Warhammer 40K
I'd be curious to see the player numbers on turbo vs ranked. Ranked has a long queue because it's split between role queue/no roles. I also suspect ranked is more picky about having players with a close MMR.
@@JacobJustice2141 There are data here in the internet somewhere regarding that topic, however, as the saying goes, "Experience is your best teacher". In my comment, I am referring to my experience and also my friend's and other people's experience. When my friends and I used to queue for Divine or Low Immortal queues, (or even if I solo queue), the queue for ranked is just about the same as unranked (normal/turbo). Sometimes ranked queue is faster than unranked queues. Now, it is the complete opposite. When I queue for ranked games now a days, it takes me in between 5-10+ minutes, just to get a queue. Mind you, I have 10K comms score and 12K behavior score. Meanwhile normal and turbo gets me a game in less than 1-3 minutes. Also, you get more rewards when you play ranked vs unranked. Example Arcana progress gives you 1 point in ranked/normal modes while Turbo only gives you half. Crownfall gives you 3 Tokens when you win ranked/normal mode and you get at least 1 token when you lose. Meanwhile turbo gives you 2 tokens only if you win and ZERO when you lose. Yet people play Turbo mode more than the Ranked Queue..
The people who benefit from big prizepools are the orgs at the top. Every dollar that qualifiers give out is one less dollar for the suits who own Liquid or GG to take a cut from.
Bring back compendium, bring back summit tourney, less DPC meaningless tournaments and have sustainable programs for new up and coming players. It's that easy
LoL winning game of the year because of literally only Arcane was the last straw for me, valve doesn't give a f about their games anymore, cs 2 is going a year now and almost every other game has a cheater and nothing is being done.
dota 2 here in ph kinda dead after com shop/internet cafe closed even there's open and ongoing today it's just a thing rn also MLBB takes over the popularity of dota 2 coz you play everywhere and kinda sad for me after a decade playin the but still gonna happen even in ph have stablish the communities here and get well knowed in international teams i can says is we just accept it but hey we built a lot of memories
Comshops in Metro Manila are slowly but surely coming back to their regular stretch after years of being impaled by pandemic. But the renting isn't as low as before for many reasons. And majority of renters are playing Valorant these days, and it's been rare to see some others playing DOTA 2, as well. 😔
@@6MinutesLothar because Doat2 are not for beginners or newbies, its difficult to learn and adapt to, you will need a descent amount of time before you even say... master the game. This is the thing about the current state of Dota 2 esports its not that its dying but its main audiences which was us and others who grew up with Dota 1 and 2 that grew out of the game like we could still watch these tournaments for likr 8 to 10 hours long or we could just use that time to sleep from a long day at work Things are not the same as it was 5 years ago when Dota 2 was at its peak popularity
After 1 years he gone now he comeback with this video, I would agree if you say DOTA 2 cooked. Another part of DOTA2 which you might not mention, the ingame content become worst. For heroes skin, sometimes they just recycle previous skin and change the colour. No more battle pass means, less interactive in ingame like TPs, dagger blink etc during each of the event. Some current players, they may feel like DOTA 2 no longer moving forward and which may be the reason they losing interest and move to another game. For young generation, they can't afford a PC unless their family owned a PC but they will have smartphone so they more interested in mobile game instead of PC game. In reality now, who will suddenly play DOTA with you or teach you how to play while back then some of us maybe go to cybercafe and talk each other. For older generation, not everyone have time to spend each 45mins or more for a single game and you may stress losing the game, so they might choose other game to play during their free time. These are another reason that DOTA 2 will losing players to watch and support the tournament. One thing I want to point here, why young generation should play DOTA 2 when they must have a PC while they can use smartphone and play similar game like DOTA 2? Plus, they don't need to spend hours to play one single game.
You are right and so true. The thing is dota 2 doesn’t make any advisement to encourage new players plus lack of updates in the game we just get loop boxes/treasure all the time. Plus most of the normal casual dota 2 players plays turbo mode now and if you try playing all pick by yourself it will take ages for you to find match unless you play with party or rank match. Life is short that is why people likes quick to finish games like the average of Mobile legends only takes 15-25mins average game and LOL takes probably same but dota 2 takes 40-90mins normal match while turbo mode suppose to be quick it takes around 20-50mins a game
Well, I used to watch tournaments over tournaments of Doto2 nowdays, I skip it mostly just try to watch the final my reason was, EU DOTO is just boring to watch man... EU Doto is strong, but it just map movement this and snowball there... I want exciting Teamfights, Spellcasting, Clutch - thats the part where EU DOTO stale there is reason why Spirit vs PSG LGD is pinnacle of TI FIghts for many people CIS and China bring the excitment of DOTO teamfight. but the meta is.... not in that direction
This is stupid like fifa forcing soccer player play too frequent. Like in chess, magnus carlsen refused to defend world title because too many games to play. These sucker organiser need to stop abusing players.
Man, maior surpresa desse vídeo é: TU É BR?
remember how DotA 1 trives before valve bought it, I remember playing it all day before, but now the game is so stressfull I wonder why, even though I stop playing after TI5 I still have more than 3k+ hours playing time
using ur suggestion on the last video, i think the easiest solution for DPC is just forcing ESL to makes tier 2 league for all region (or maybe make it simple, 3 region Europe, Asia, America) just like in CS, where they had ESL Challanger League. like for example, each region had 10 teams of tier 2 league with prize money & qualifier slot for some of ESL major event 3x10, it's already 30, not that much, but atleast we can still give a clear path for people to grind makes the ecosystem a little bit sustainable. fyi, team spirit that won CS major recently, they also start from tier 2 which was ECL, slowly but surely they qualify into EPL, some blast event, BB Dacha, and so on. but where was the funding come? well ESL is practically owned by the Saudi, they rich AF and if they didnt want it for some reason, Valve can still compensate with offering them "special" rights to held their own partnered league, where some of their revenue will be used for cross-subsidize on the tier 2 league/ ESL Challanger League (or whatever they called for)
The oversaturation of pro games killed the pro scene for a lot of us, and the removal of the compendium after they tried and failed to milk it was the nail in the coffin.
Viewership is down due to extreme behavior moderation No interesting personalities storylines and drama exists 0 tolerance policies and it's consequences....
EVERY TEAM IS A LGBTQ RAINBOW AS WELL. I WANT PURE CHINESE VS AMERICA, RUSSIANS VS SWEDEN, DANISH VS UKRAINES, PHILLPINOS VS BRAZILIANS. I WANT TEAMS THAT HAVE THE SAME PLAYERS TOGETHER FOR YEARS AND ALL COUNTRYMEN NOT JUST SWIP SWAPPING EVERY TWO MONTHS

@@bexultanassanov1930 Yep, i have to agreed. The current style of event fit the game much better, and if you want to shill for the TI its still there, just no cosmetic lock behind it.
He is not wrong. I believe Im not the only one who only wait & watch The International. I love the regional/continent tournaments. It give a sense sense of belonging to the local team.
I'd say Dota must invest more in reinstating DPC and perhaps, starting with countries that provides large viewership and expand as the game grow on that region. Like Manila Major, one time it happened never got a 2nd opportunity for that country to host yet another Dota tournament.
My opinion, it's time for a new game engine, like a dota 3 idk, so they can start all heavy marketing stuff to bring new people to the game, maybe even new winners. But as an old guy, I love what we have right now and I'm tired of learning new things lol
The pro scene truly lacks storylines right now. Valve made sure the pro scene is clean and it became too clean. Its sterile. I tuned into LOL tournament because people were talking about a player called Faker and how he delivered in the finals. Thats what dota lacks these days
I've been in Hiatus for a while and venture to fps and MMORPG but damn they are so boring and repetitive farming and shooting but in Dota 2 you'll get that you need in your life.. so yeah after I landed a job I will be back to DotA
yeah, i remember back in the days i was waiting months to see my favorite team or a new super team play officialy in a tournament, now is almost 1 tournament a month and almost same games/teams/outcomes, the waiting generate hype, but now with that much amount of tournaments... i started to watch less dota for almost 1-2 years ago, even the last international feels meh, and this is from a guy who started playing dota1 in 2008 and dota2 in 2011, tournaments are saturated nowdays.
Thank you bowie but sadly it's too late. Next year's tournaments are already set up and changing the format starting 2026 is unrealistic. Valve/TO's will use the facts you state in this video to cut even more founding from the game and for tournaments.
the problem isnt the tournament schedule bro dota 2 has lost its identity. too many changes in the last 5 years might aswell just be loading up LoL2.exe now
Dont know why they removed the battlepass. Think its one of the main reasons. It's the one time in a year where we are happy to spend extra for this game.
dota problem is lack new player but their solution is to stomp the competition. i played dota since 2005. i think the solution of dota 1. add more rank score by player performance not only winning and losing 2. add bot player in low level rank to reduce toxicity for new player and boosting their skill 3. bring compedium back
The fact that none of the new heroes added are zoo or micro heroes is very telling of the game getting simplified in a bad way and becoming less mechanically challenging its not just about the tournaments the game has gotten really boring.
The issue with Dota: Valve doesnt care enough. They think "things that we dont control will be controlled by the most efficient people who try to make money". But those people simply go to games that are easier to make money from. The Dota IP needs an owner that cares enough about the game itself. and fk deadlock tbh.... that game doesnt have any soul.
It's easy to define a number for any metric. More population = more viewership, and no Asia/SA = no viewership. Simple as that e-sport should learn a viewership from football which already has global appeal.
Riot ig fixes this problem by a long run by using closed leagues (and even using ascension in their Valorant scene for teams who didnt invited) + bring back compendium ffs
But unlike dota there is upcoming superstar that will carry the sport khamzat topuria now Pereira in dota superstar like sumail and miracle are not their old self anymore new superstar like pure and other can't hype the audience like miracle sumail back then

OG probably didnt have any problems, Notail owned the org and he was playing as a pos5. That is where his hardwork got him. The rest of the organizations are probably money hungry, and I think it could also be a reason team nigma was formed, lets be honest.
its so cooked honestly especially in sea server where chinese players in 7k mmr just idk play the worst dota in entire planet i dont even know how ame and other pros manage to become one of the best back then
They need to make the game simple. If my veteran ass brain is lagging with the shear number of things to do, just imagine newby players playing on a toxic match. The Amount of things you're supposed to do is godly awful. If they just go back to the regular formula like in Dota 1 that would be great.
Valve has a huge ratio of profit/number of employees. They think it's good, but they can't take care of games. Smaller tournaments in Dota should not be profitable. TI is profitable for all of them, and the smaller ones keep other teams alive and new talents comming.
I havent seen a pro match since the final of the international this year. I want to watch the finals of tournaments at least but every final is liquid vs falcons. Dota died in SEA and china too

I already invested lot of time on this game already and I think its kinda too late for me already to transition from MOBA to FPS. Im already 24 years old :/ I hope I realized things sooner.
No tobiwan, no watch
2:09 ML(whatever that is) I like that🤣subscribe
i think the passion has died. we have hardcore gamers back then, now its just kids who doesnt care about the game playing it
The demography has changed over a dacade. I went from living alone in a studio to owning a house with wife and kids. Hence the little time I have is goping to be played rather than spectating.
2:09 Mobile Legends Bang Bang?? whatever that is. caught me off guard

@@JacobJustice2141 I can't find a normal game in 10 minutes but I can find a Turbo in 30 sec.
Yep, still up for the petition to have turbo ranked idc anymore. Fck normal game man
yeah turbo is the future hope they make this the normal game 😂
Yet people play Turbo mode more than the Ranked Queue..
the DPC was great, and it made a real highlight of the yearly-quater with the major that noone was missing!.... (+ second divisions were great aswell)
DPC was infested by 322s in Tier 2
we need to learn form our bother CS it seems a little more healthy imo. I love both and I think your 100% correct
Miss the videos, but glad you finally achieved your dream of full time official Dota events
My man’s back… i always remember encountering you on mm and you where so positive i felt the rage leaving my body.
Nice video btw
The people who benefit from big prizepools are the orgs at the top. Every dollar that qualifiers give out is one less dollar for the suits who own Liquid or GG to take a cut from.
Bring back compendium, bring back summit tourney, less DPC meaningless tournaments and have sustainable programs for new up and coming players. It's that easy
Yo wtf!? He's back bois!!! 🎉🎉
Did Bowie really say that compendiums are gone when Valve literally substituted the Battle Pass for compendiums?
Morelikely those new players will lose interest of the game the moment they played rank games and being killed so many times, and a numerous losing streaks.
Mobile Gaming + Mobile Casino and Gambling Sponsors + Chinese Phones sponsors + very low cost maintenance team = perfect recipe to kill Computer competitive team in SEA REGION.
We need manila major back to revive it
@@Wonderland584 surely that's never goin happen again a lot issue on Phillipines after the major poor service of venue also our government didn't like it of the major at that time too expensive for just a venue said by the valve
This is the thing about the current state of Dota 2 esports its not that its dying but its main audiences which was us and others who grew up with Dota 1 and 2 that grew out of the game like we could still watch these tournaments for likr 8 to 10 hours long or we could just use that time to sleep from a long day at work
Things are not the same as it was 5 years ago when Dota 2 was at its peak popularity
agreed, imagine watching same teams play group stage every single week over and over againg
Did he do the mechanical keyboard lucky draw for his patreons already?
Plus, they don't need to spend hours to play one single game.
i think splitting it between top 4 players will only make competition between in own teams
I'd rather watch the best teams from EU rather than random stacks from SEA
You must be gay
Removing compendium was the biggest mistake they did.
Well, I used to watch tournaments over tournaments of Doto2
nowdays, I skip it mostly just try to watch the final
my reason was, EU DOTO is just boring to watch man...
EU Doto is strong, but it just map movement this and snowball there...
I want exciting Teamfights, Spellcasting, Clutch - thats the part where EU DOTO stale
there is reason why Spirit vs PSG LGD is pinnacle of TI FIghts for many people
CIS and China bring the excitment of DOTO teamfight. but the meta is.... not in that direction
damn the camera quality though
This is stupid like fifa forcing soccer player play too frequent. Like in chess, magnus carlsen refused to defend world title because too many games to play. These sucker organiser need to stop abusing players.
Man, maior surpresa desse vídeo é: TU É BR?
Need more local tournaments in countries like India and other Sea regions. We are being so overlooked, man.
remember how DotA 1 trives before valve bought it, I remember playing it all day before, but now the game is so stressfull I wonder why, even though I stop playing after TI5 I still have more than 3k+ hours playing time
There's a cat at the end
using ur suggestion on the last video, i think the easiest solution for DPC is just forcing ESL to makes tier 2 league for all region (or maybe make it simple, 3 region Europe, Asia, America) just like in CS, where they had ESL Challanger League.
like for example, each region had 10 teams of tier 2 league with prize money & qualifier slot for some of ESL major event
3x10, it's already 30, not that much, but atleast we can still give a clear path for people to grind makes the ecosystem a little bit sustainable.
fyi, team spirit that won CS major recently, they also start from tier 2 which was ECL, slowly but surely they qualify into EPL, some blast event, BB Dacha, and so on.
but where was the funding come?
well ESL is practically owned by the Saudi, they rich AF
and if they didnt want it for some reason, Valve can still compensate with offering them "special" rights to held their own partnered league, where some of their revenue will be used for cross-subsidize on the tier 2 league/ ESL Challanger League (or whatever they called for)
The oversaturation of pro games killed the pro scene for a lot of us, and the removal of the compendium after they tried and failed to milk it was the nail in the coffin.
Really great insight and i do hope the scene will thrive and bring more great moment ahead
If they Bring it back how it was in 2016/2017 compedium for the TI, 4 majors
Viewership is down due to extreme behavior moderation
No interesting personalities storylines and drama exists
0 tolerance policies and it's consequences....
No more battle pass, no more whales, its simple as.
I loved Crownfall, story is good, mini games are good relaxation after lose streaks, good sets, and I couldn't give a f if manchild-millionaires are getting paid less
@@bexultanassanov1930 Yep, i have to agreed. The current style of event fit the game much better, and if you want to shill for the TI its still there, just no cosmetic lock behind it.
@ufuk5872 f the cosmetics, game is becoming an anime style for no reason
Dendi will save us. he has the knowledge. Valve please take him as advisor
2:09 the creator is salty all of the sudden.
Welcome back
i missed this calm smart voice
The new gen pro players like Pure, ATF, Yatoro, Nightfall & Nisha cannot bring biggest hype like Ana, Sumail, Miracle & Ame 😔
DotA started dying since Matumbaman left.
DONT FORGET DENDI BRO, DENDI WAS HYPE IN HIS PRIME NAVI DAYS , SO WAS CHUAN AND FERRARI 430
biggest thing killing dota imo is taking rewards out of compendium, why on earth would they do that? i haven't bought one since the change
THE GOAT IS BACK
I've been in Hiatus for a while and venture to fps and MMORPG but damn they are so boring and repetitive farming and shooting but in Dota 2 you'll get that you need in your life.. so yeah after I landed a job I will be back to DotA
i agree, dota only playable game. dota best arpg/mmorpg.
yeah, i remember back in the days i was waiting months to see my favorite team or a new super team play officialy in a tournament, now is almost 1 tournament a month and almost same games/teams/outcomes, the waiting generate hype, but now with that much amount of tournaments... i started to watch less dota for almost 1-2 years ago, even the last international feels meh, and this is from a guy who started playing dota1 in 2008 and dota2 in 2011, tournaments are saturated nowdays.
wait are you telling me there's more games outside TI?
Thank you bowie but sadly it's too late. Next year's tournaments are already set up and changing the format starting 2026 is unrealistic. Valve/TO's will use the facts you state in this video to cut even more founding from the game and for tournaments.
Man I wish we could get a turnament on turbo mode
the writings been on the wall for a while we are basically playing league of legends with denies now just to try increase viewership
the problem isnt the tournament schedule bro dota 2 has lost its identity. too many changes in the last 5 years might aswell just be loading up LoL2.exe now
all i play is turbo 2
Dont know why they removed the battlepass. Think its one of the main reasons. It's the one time in a year where we are happy to spend extra for this game.
solution: 10x the gambling and crypto sponsors
Great video Mr Bowie
dota problem is lack new player but their solution is to stomp the competition. i played dota since 2005. i think the solution of dota
1. add more rank score by player performance not only winning and losing
2. add bot player in low level rank to reduce toxicity for new player and boosting their skill
3. bring compedium back
The fact that none of the new heroes added are zoo or micro heroes is very telling of the game getting simplified in a bad way and becoming less mechanically challenging its not just about the tournaments the game has gotten really boring.
top teams killed the scene. their rants led to the death of dpc
The issue with Dota:
Valve doesnt care enough. They think "things that we dont control will be controlled by the most efficient people who try to make money".
But those people simply go to games that are easier to make money from.
The Dota IP needs an owner that cares enough about the game itself.
and fk deadlock tbh.... that game doesnt have any soul.
rip compendiums.love it or hate it i still love dota 1 and 2.
It's easy to define a number for any metric. More population = more viewership, and no Asia/SA = no viewership. Simple as that
e-sport should learn a viewership from football which already has global appeal.
Riot ig fixes this problem by a long run by using closed leagues (and even using ascension in their Valorant scene for teams who didnt invited) + bring back compendium ffs
the same happens with UFC a lot of events and people dont watch
But unlike dota there is upcoming superstar that will carry the sport khamzat topuria now Pereira in dota superstar like sumail and miracle are not their old self anymore new superstar like pure and other can't hype the audience like miracle sumail back then
UFC is only exclusive in America, and Dana White ruined the fun of it. No wonder WWE could be the next target of being isolated from delivering fun experience around the globe. Sadge
UFC IS LUCKY THAT BASKETBALL AND NFL AND BASKETBALL ARE TRASH AND SOCCER ISNT THAT POPULAR IN USA. NOONE HAS TIME TO WATCH SPORTS NOW , NOONE HAS EXTRA MONEY TO WASTE ON GAMBLING, CHEESEBURGERS COST 15 USD NOW FOR ONE CHEESEBURGER, ALL THE SPORTS CHARGE WAY TOO MUCH TO VIEW THE SPORT... IF PPV WAS 20 BUCKS I WOULD BUY IT FOR SURE EVERYTIME BUT 90 BUCKS AND MOSTLY THE MAIN CARD WILL ONLY HAVE 1 OR 2 FIGHTS THAT ACTUALLY TURNS OUT GOOD
the legend returns!
HE is back
OG probably didnt have any problems, Notail owned the org and he was playing as a pos5. That is where his hardwork got him. The rest of the organizations are probably money hungry, and I think it could also be a reason team nigma was formed, lets be honest.
great content, as always
its so cooked honestly especially in sea server where chinese players in 7k mmr just idk play the worst dota in entire planet i dont even know how ame and other pros manage to become one of the best back then
They need to make the game simple. If my veteran ass brain is lagging with the shear number of things to do, just imagine newby players playing on a toxic match. The Amount of things you're supposed to do is godly awful. If they just go back to the regular formula like in Dota 1 that would be great.
dota 2 plays more like mmorpg now.
pls hire bowie
Valve has a huge ratio of profit/number of employees. They think it's good, but they can't take care of games.
Smaller tournaments in Dota should not be profitable. TI is profitable for all of them, and the smaller ones keep other teams alive and new talents comming.
I havent seen a pro match since the final of the international this year.
I want to watch the finals of tournaments at least but every final is liquid vs falcons.
Dota died in SEA and china too
bro wash your TEE
rest in peace dota
man i miss LD,godz and Tobi :(
Dota 2 still the best and equality of skills still insane of changing the game has dota 2 will be rises in long time this game I love this but fan for watching during TI, or biggest thing tour, but dota 2 has longest to watch how many underdog that wild
already accomplished all my goals in this game. Got top 1000 and created dota2-minify. Very little to keep me playing more then a few matches a month at this point.
The goat is back
Hard to watch so many Dota Tournaments hardly remember what Team win a big Tournament except TI, Bring back Major Tournament, make every hero playable, im so tired seeing few meta hero picks over and over every other game
The fact that Chinese no longer wins. That means Chinese fanbase, being large in size and also contributing a lot of money, kinda change game. To league or mobile legends. Chinese fans are known to splash cash whenever they like a game. Take a look at recent Black Myth Wukong success
current player number are inflated from account boosting bots
