    This is great guys! We were told by the "experts" we hired that all VFS applications go through the Washington, DC office for approval. So no decision making would be done in San Francisco. Only data collection and initial vetting, finger prints, etc. Don't know if this is true. We could only get an online bank account. We have no counter service in France. All our docs had to be translated to French in our applications including financial statements for the "D" visa. Welcome to European bureaucracy! It's all worth it. Will compare notes when we see each other. :-)

      Thanks! I believe all the VFS offices in the USA for Lisbon scan everything to Portugal for approval. We'll definitely have to compare notes. Excited to meet up in Europe!! ☺️

    For me this is my favorite to live if I was moving to Europe ….I didn’t make the move before Covid and my health took a dive! 🙁 …I wish I had invested on my younger years and had enough now at my age to make a big move but unfortunate I didn’t …Now it got too expensive for me and also still working….Bummer! …I enjoy your videos vey much !

      Thanks for watching! Sorry to hear your health took a dive and hope you are doing much better. It is definitely expensive in the Lisbon area of Portugal now!!

      Hello, I believe most of the consulates are now requiring a one year lease. We used flatio for ours as they provide a lease in Portuguese and English. Best of luck!

    On the application I only see individual information. How do I add my spouse’s information? As a matter of fact that must be why couples get appointments separately at the SEF in Portugal. I’m in the US

    • @SeekingParadiseBugs
      @SeekingParadiseBugs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, each person must fill out their own application. You'll get different interview dates, but you can always ask if you could have your spouse come in during your interview. Good luck!

    How recent does the Birth Certificate need to be? We are moving from Mexico to Portugal also. Thank you for all of the info!

    • @SeekingParadiseBugs
      @SeekingParadiseBugs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      México indicates the birth certificate needs to be legible and apostilled. In order to have it apostilled by the secretary of state in MS and CA, it must be an original or certified copy, NOT notarized. It was easiest for us to order through vitalcheck to make sure it would be accepted by each of the Departments of State we had to go through. I don't believe there was a timeframe given by either Mexico or the Departments of State, the company we used to have them apostilled and translated recommended it be a recent certificate. Good luck with your move and let us know if you have other questions. We're just wrapping up our 3rd blog about our experience moving from Mexico. We'll be posting it soon! One big tip...although the Portuguese consulate in Mexico states they require a federal criminal report from the country you've resided in for more than a year, in this case Mexico, our visas were denied by SEF in Portugal. They requested our FBI reports from the USA to reconsider. Others we have talked to applying from Mexico were not asked for a criminal report from their country of origin. We would suggest you obtain it just in case though.

      Why do you want to move to Portugal from Mexico?

    • @SeekingParadiseBugs
      @SeekingParadiseBugs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Mexico was the first stop in our early retirement crusade. We intend to spend 2 years in different countries until we find our forever home. Our main format in our channel is to travel to low cost of living cities around the world. We do have a video 'Our next homebase is..' that gives further reasons on why we chose Portugal as a second stop..thank you for watching!

    To confirm you got your birth certificates apostilled and translated? Who translated your birth certificates?

    • @SeekingParadiseBugs
      @SeekingParadiseBugs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We used Apostille Please to translate and apostille for us. We had our birth certificates mailed directly to them from vital check and they took care of it all.

    Hii.. please answer me:
    for the d7 visa, is it possible to purchase health insurance inside Portugal to include emergency and non-emergency diseases such as chronic difficult diseases and surgeries (because travel insurance covers emergency cases only)??..and how much does it cost, whether monthly or annually??
    i Heard about 10% of your pension or income taxes (income from outside Portugal on which you were granted a d7 visa)... right?

    • @SeekingParadiseBugs
      @SeekingParadiseBugs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you can purchase health insurance in Portugal. The price and type will depend on your age, pre-existing conditions, etc so unfortunately I cannot give you a price. Many expats have mentioned that they purchase through their bank Millennium. We're not sure if other banks also offer the service. If considering a move, you may want to check the files section in the Facebook group, Americans & Friends PT. Best of luck!

    • @jofad8095
      @jofad8095 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeekingParadiseBugs I understand that you cannot give me a specific price, I am saying what is the average price approximately? Age 30..I do not currently complain of any disease..but I want health insurance that covers diseases that may occur in the future such as cancers and surgeries

    • @SeekingParadiseBugs
      @SeekingParadiseBugs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We actually have a worldwide health coverage so we haven't priced health insurance solely in Portugal. That said, we have seen expats post that they have obtained policies for under €50 a month. If you qualify for the NHR tax regime then you pay 10% tax on most worldwide income outside of Portugal for 10 years.

    • @SeekingParadiseBugs
      @SeekingParadiseBugs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I understand your question correctly, you want to know if you can apply from your country of residence with financial documents from your home country. You can, however, rules change so please confirm exactly what you need to provide with the Portuguese consulate in your country of residence.

      You should be able to use any income as long as you can show proof such as a 1099, tax return and bank account deposits. Best of luck!

    Awesome info!! I feel like a broken record always saying how much I love your videos. Specifically I appreciate how much info you provide and I really appreciate the banking info and how you share the what “NOT” to do. Since Portugal residency is on our retirement list as well I have already seen numerous videos and feel confident I understand the process but it is really great to be brought along for your experience. Thank you once again guys!! I’ll be looking forward to the next installment.
